Looking to get new gear
« on: February 03, 2009, 07:55:13 PM »
Hey everybody i'm looking to get new gear and i was wondering what is a good brand of gear. I'm looking for something that will last a decent amount of time. It doesn't have to be great quality and really expensive but it does have to be able to take a lot of wear and tear. I was looking at condor gear and it seems pretty good but i'm asking if any of you guys have any suggestions on different brands.

Eagle industries are the best of the best. But they are pretty expensive
Ganef(a member here) makes great gear too(I dont have any of his wares, just from what people say his stuff is great)
diamond tactical is also a great company

on the cheaper side...

condor makes ok stuff... but to me its pretty cheap and looks like it will go after a year or two

I havent tried any other brand besides voodoo tactical and they seem pretty good for a low price. but the price differance between high end gear and low end is:

Eagle industries plate carrier-$170-230
condor plate carrier-$30-50

hope this helps

First you need to decide what kind of rig you want, CIRAS, RRV, LBV etc. Then you need to set how much you want to spend.
The rig should fit what style of game you're looking to play, please don't say sniper....
If you're going for a "look" well thats cool too but either way you need to think over it, browse the web and
suppliers and truely plan on what you think will work for you, not what everyone else uses.
I'm really satisfied with my rig from Ganef but even now I've been adding, removing, and moving pouches
as I use it in games and how I think it can work better for me.
If you haven't read Raiths "Gear and you" thread, plenty of info in there.
Don't copy someone elses rig, make yours, yours.
Keep in mind your load out will evolve just as you do the longer and more dedicated you become to the hobby.

Ebaybanned's Weekend Warrior gear is actually quite high quality (for the price).  I'd look there and see if you see anything you like.

I hope your not serious..
If so, go simple, eg ruck and a few pouches on a first line setup.
If your not serious about a "sniper", get the Eagle.
You can pick one up for under $200. If that's how much you've decided to spend.
Don't skimp on pouches. They'll make a bigger diference than the vest.
In order of MY priorities...
Hydration, ammo, comm and the rest of the crap you feel you can't go with out.
Prepare to spend just as much on pouches, if not more, as you do on the rig.
Also here's a tip, you should keep your weapons and gear in "harmony" for lack of a bettter term.
If you have a kink towards M16's well stick to them. If AK's rock your jock well than stick to those.
It's all trial and error if you're starting out.
However being probably more than twice your age makes a difference in what I recomend and what you decide.
Add a few greys and you'll see, but that's a different topic.

Read around. There are a ton of good gear resources on this forum. Raith has written whole essays dedicated to perfecting your load out.

In my personal opinion. My favorite gear brands are these...

Coyote Tactical
Diamondback Tactical
Eagle
Tactical Tailor
Emdom

All the gear I own is from one of these companies.

If you want to travel light, consider the LV1 or the Eagle Chest Rig line...
