Batteries
« on: March 20, 2011, 10:17:38 AM »
I have a Dboys Ak74 W/metal gearbox. It is stock, so is it ready for a 7.4 or 11.1 lipo? i dont want to shred my gearbox and pistons, but the stick batteries i have don't last very long and don't shoot fast enough for me so i figured i might try a lipo. Just wondering if it is ready.

Mine held up for a while with an 11.1. Then shredded the piston.

it can handle a 7.4 just as most guns can. Most 7.4s come out to around the same ROF as a 9.6 would give you.

Alright i have a 9.6 in there right now, so i wont see any major change in rof but how long will a 7.4 lipo last?

Somewhere between 1 and 6,000,000,000,000 shots. Should be similar to a 9.6 with the same mAh rating.

Actually, it should be a bit higher as the LiPo generally is not going to be taxed as close to it's limit and therefore is more efficient.

Probably correct... I've never drained a lipo fully to know for sure. Sensible enough.

I've seen people use the same # of shots/mAh to keep from over-discharging. Either way, you need more information about the battery/gun combo before we could get anywhere close to telling you how long it would last...

I would recommend getting a MOSFET for the lipo.  I've already gone through a set of trigger contacts with mine.  Switched back to 9.6v until I get one.

I'm still waiting to see someone post pics of their burned out trigger contacts.
I recommend mosfets for a myriad of reasons, trigger contacts have never been one.

I fired about 200 shots before it stopped.  When I opened the gearbox, the contacts and surrounding plastic were charred black.

I should have taken photos.
