Speaking of AK . . . I can't stand the sights on those things. Gun shoots great just hope you don't have to rely on the irons. As for M1A, has anyone seen the new Springfield SOCOM M1A? The power of a .308 with only an 16 1/4 in. barrel! Plus the new compensator on it is supposed to work extremely well.
Kynetic, buy an AR15 to celebrate the fall of the AWB (if it falls. Not over 'til it's over). I'm building my own to suit my tastes, and I don't think you'll be disappointed. [:D]

Personally I think that the AR looks and shoots like a toy (my uncle calls them "poodleshooters"[:P]). It might be just me, but I'd recommend an M1A in the standard .308. Now that is a pretty, yet lethal looking rifle. I got mine in January of '02 and haven't ever had a second thought. They are a bit more than an AR, but they are better made from what I've seen. You can get new ones from the Springfield Armory for about the same as a used (don't know why). Anyway, thats just my opinion.

Its good to hear from someone who is currently over there. My father was there during the "war" (though I think you'll agree that the war is still on) with the Marine 4th LAR (Light Armored Reconaissance). He said basically the same thing. He saw whole MIG's dug up. He also said there was so much ordinance around that his unit gave up trying to destroy it all. Lastly, in one of the villages he was at (can't remember exactly what it was called) he was told by the villagers that, just before the war, about 100 village men were rounded up and taken to the desert and never seen again. All the locals think that they were put to work burying materials and then killed once the job was done. I doubt this was an isolated case. Anyway, thanks for chiming in and thanks even more for your service.

On the subject of losing amendments, if you take note of key court cases, especially those dealing with the Supreme Court, it is now our courts that determine what is law, not our constitution! Frankly, I'm for less government control on just about everything. I've noticed government is good at enforcing law and running a united military (usually) but stinks when it comes to actually making laws. Leadmagnet is right. We can sit here and argue for hours over all sorts of issues, but this I think we all can agree on: Lets start calling these damn politicians on their constitutional violations before we lose our freedoms. If you disagree, let me know, eh?

When the liberals say "living" they're not referring to the ability to change it, they're talking about the ability to interpret it as one feels is appropriate for the decade. Thats why our the courts are allowed to make this stupid decisions and are now the law of the land, not the Constitution.

I don't want to argue with you, but from a political standpoint, to blatantly lie about something that you know can hold no water, especially two years before election is political suicide. As far as dupes, using your logic, who says Bush wasn't duped by the Intelligence agencies?

Quote (sorry, I don't know how to do the nice little quote boxes):I personally would love to see a Canidate rise outa the blue, not a Dem or Rep. but a TRUE indipendent, that could carry the popular vote and win. But I don't ever see it happening.

Have you ever looked into the Constitional Party? They believe in following the Constitution to the dot none of this living/changing document BS. I would vote for them in a heart-beat if I knew they had a chance at winning. Those guys are right on. I'll try to find the website if I can remember.

Harley's right. I joined when I was 16. In fact, I think they even have special rates for "junior members". Check it out at http://www.nramembership.org/ .

Well, boys, I've heard alot of discussion here with plenty of ideas, some good, some bad, but just keep one thing in mind. Consider yourselves blessed that you live in a country where we have to keep people out, whereas just about the rest of world is enforcing their borders to keep people in. Shooting people isn't the answer though, but neither is letting them wander through the desert and then treating and deporting them at taxpayer's expense.

All I know is that, besides ammo, water is one of the heaviest things to carry. I think its a great idea - just as long as they do ALOT of testing before issue. Course, there could be one problem. You know when you go to get you physical at the doctor and you have to piss in a cup and sometimes you just can't/don't need to go? What if you were real hungry and the same thing happened . . . bummer.

Ah . . .the memories. Ok, I'm only 18, but I've been shooting since I was 6 or 7. Got a winchester .22 from my dad for my 11th birthday. This last January, I bought my first "big" purchase - a Springfield M1A. Couldn't be more happier. She shoots like a dream and I put a redfield illuminator 3X9X40 on her so I can take her hunting (with a five round magazine only, of course). Speaking of which, does anyone know a good place to get G.I. M14 magazines for a reasonable price?

Nice weapon you've got there. Now that you've posted pictures all over the site, you'll have to do the proper thing and invite us all to shoot it[:D]. Just kidding. Personally, I'm an M14/M1A fan But really guys just remember that the gun ban won't be let go of easily by some in congress or even the president. During his 1999-2000 campaign Bush said he would resign the Clinton gun ban law when it expired IF the bill got to his desk. So lets do our part and write our congressman and let them know how much bullcrap (other, more colorful words can also be used here)the whole law is (of course if anyone knows the last time someone was killed by a flash hider, bayonet, or pistol grips, let me know). Also just realize that Kerry has voted for or supported just about every gun control law known to man. But then again, he does hang out with Ted Kennedy. Anyway just think about it and then act.
