Wait until you are of legal age and have a good job, then get a quality GBB.

I've had quality GBB's without having to be of legal age. My parent purchased them for me, but I had to have the money first (ALL of it). I'm a responsible kid, and have been involved with firearms of all sorts since I was 12. Frankly, I think I know more about the things than my parents do (althought my father can still beat the pants off of me on the range, depending on what it is we're shooting [:D]).  But the thing with age is, the younger you are, the more likely you are to do something stupid with a GBB, or anything else. I'll admit to that. Just keep it safe. And, do save up a bit. It IS worth it.

Basher, I have known you from here for a while and your posts do reflect maturity when guns are involved.  I don't mean to impune the characters of good people.  I merely point out that airsoft is illegal for minors to purchase, which is only a hair's width away from a legal interpretation including ownership, possession, and use.  I'd hate to see it get pushed into court, because it wold be a lose-lose situation for players and the sport.
You probably do know more than your parents about this stuff, but the law supports their right to own and use it...not those younger than 18.  We've all had to wait for good things in life.  It makes it worth it, and keeps it healthy.

Kyle, I'll agree with you here. But it similar to how I use real firearms. My parents purchase them, and I use them (they do as well). With airsoft, I'm considered a primary user, and have "parental supervision" while using them (most of my friends are 18). But I see your point. Personally, I wouldn't want to be held responsible for the close of AA, which is why I no longer attend AA games (othe items have taken priority for the time being as well).

Regarding real firearms, I AM waiting for those, in most respects. I'm currently saving for a rifle of my own that I can purchase when I hit 18. I HAVE inherited a .22 pistol, my father and I have co-purchase a pistol, and our 96 was bought with me in mind. It is not mine until I'm 21, and I can't use it unless I'm with an adult, and my parents give me permission to take it out of it's "hiding spot," if you will. [:D]

But waiting will make it worth it's while, and from my experience (this is at Hav), you will take better care of it if you use YOUR hard earned money to buy it. Not that I abuse things that are given to me, but I baby things I buy, and give good care to things given to me. It's a nasty truth that I need to change. I feel ungrateful saying that, but it's true. Guess I need to work on that. [:(] Besides, more time will give you time to finalize your decision.

EDIT: Kyle, I didn't mean to come across as offensive in this post or the last. Rereading this one, I find I may have been a tad aggressive in my word choice. If I did, I didn't do it on purpose! Sorry about that.

Basher-
No offense and well worded.  You just proved again that you are not the average youngster out there!  I had my first handgun at 15.  Dad's officially, mine in truth.  It was kept safely for me and I never used it while underage without adult supervision, because that's the law.  Same as you are stating, and it should be the same for airsoft.  With the parents attending the games for minors, or other sponsors attending with them, we accomodate the gray area in the law.  I worry very much about what happens with this stuff off the fields, though, and that is the primary reason I discourage younger players from obtaining Airsoft gear.  Too few are as level headed as you are.  I may be generalizing, but I've seen it, here and elsewhere.
Anyway, you're a good apple and I apologize for moving away from the main point of the topic again.
Back on track...

You SURE you want one of those?  Don't you have a new VW Golf?  VW hasn't made the Corrado in about 10 years (I think 94 was the last year).

Kyle, thanks.

Hav, I would suggest you stay away from the cheaper GBB's especially if they're made by HFC. I wouldn't pay less than $90 for a new GBB. In that price range, KWC has their Heavy Weight GBB's, and depending on where you buy from, you can get KSC and TM GBB's as well. However, I would again suggest you wait and get something worth your time and money. While KSC, KWC, and some TM GBB's are good on the feild, I would personally save for a WA. Yes, most people collect WA's and don't use them for skirmishing, but I found my SVI to be well up to the task. Not only that, but when it gets cold, the WA will keep on shooting, while other's drop out.

And, you can clear tree stumps and bushes with the WA by leaning to the side a bit. That's why I liked mine so much, and want to save for another (maybe the Wilson Hi-cap for $125). I could really use that ability while hiding under brush and leaves, and I had to move just my arms to get a good shot so as to stay hidden. Then again, most guys don't "hunt" with a handgun. I kind of liked the challenge, and could come out on top quite a bit.

Going back to what was mentioned above real quick, real guns and airsoft can often cross paths when it comes to the person using them.  Like I mentioned on another thread, one of the reasons I got my Western Arms was so that I could enhance my muscle memory for drawing a 1911 so that way my handling of a 1911 style gun would not be limited to when I am able to get out to the range.

Back on the topic of GBBs, I've got a couple of KWC tauruses that cost me $30 a peice that I stow in the document pouches on the inside of my vest for last resort holdout peices.  While obviously I don't use them for primary sidearms, they do get the job done without any hitches, and I would expect the same performance from a more expensive gun.

Your revolver only holds six rounds, but your fists never run out of ammo.

WA only makes 1911s though, i was looking for a Glock 17, Beretta 92, or last resort a 1911. I am looking for one with a rail frame to attach accesories! thanks in advance!

WA does NOT only make 1911's.  They primarily make them, but they do make a few Beretta models as well as some others.

Yes 94 was the last year they were madarrel, and make sure everything is smooth, and then go out back to shoot it.  Up close (~25-30 feet) I can get a full mag within 3-4 inches, without a hitch.  When I extend that range to about 40 feet, I start to notice some inconsistencies.  This may simply be the pistols limitations.  This is with .2 gram Excel, and Green Gas (white and green camo can).  I still love it!  I was considering purchasing a TM Mk23 NBB set, but decided against it after I looked at my old M9 sitting there on my desk.  It was staring right back as if to say, "I know you won't get rid of me.  I know you love me, and I love you!  I am beautiful, I was one of your first, we have history."  I don't know if it's bad to have a GBB speak to me, but if it keeps up that kind of talk I will keep it forever!

Getting a GBB
« Reply #13 on: June 16, 2003, 06:49:17 AM »
Hello there. I am planning on getting a GBB. I dont have near $200 so, i cant get a Glock 18 with a couple extra mags. I only can get around $100 over the summer, $150 if i really try n borrow money. But then over the school year i could easily pay the friend back. Anyways, I was planning on getting a Glock 18. I like the look of the Glocks, and fully automatic really speaks to me! I found some cheap ones on evay, for around $79.95, P229s made by HFC. are these anygood? and how hard are magazines for them to find?
