General Off-Topic Discussion / Re: My Absence and Our Website
« on: November 05, 2008, 12:37:38 AM »
Hey guys!

Long time, no see! I just wanted to let everyone know that I am still alive (as if someone cared, right  :P ), and let you all know of the progress of Defender's Own. We are still pursuing the project full force, as the response has been nearly universally positive. Currently, we have over 550 members on the BETA test version of the website, as well as 5000+ friends on MySpace. We are also working very closely with members of the Army OCPA to keep Defender's Own accessible on government computers. We are also forming relationships with military support organizations, such as the Soldier's Angels (we are about to become their official Internet communication platform) as well as AZ Operation Military Kids, and the Blue Star Moms of AZ. As you can imagine, the response that we have gotten has been very exciting to this point. I have been pretty much absent from this community due to extreme efforts being devoted to our website. However, I hope to be back in the near future as the weather cools and my time becomes more free.

Anyway, I just wanted to post that update because a couple of you asked me to keep you updated on the progress of the website. Lastly, if you are a part of the military community (active duty, veteran, military family member, or recruit), and you have not yet registered, we would really appreciate it if you would! <shameless plug>Just head over to www.defendersown.com and click on the Join Now link!</shameless plug>

I hope to be seeing you guys at an event in the near future, take care,
Shane

General Off-Topic Discussion / Defender's Own launches!
« on: June 15, 2008, 07:50:07 AM »
I just wanted to let everyone know that my business partner and I recently launched the beta version of our military exclusive social network. I know I had mentioned this to some of you guys a couple of months ago, well know we have something tangible. Currently, we are running the site as an invite-only beta test. Right now we are searching for test members, and I was hoping that some of you active duty, veteran, recruit, or military family members would check it out. If you are interested visit www.defendersown.com, PM me, or send me an email at betatest@defendersown.com. If you guys would be willing to sign up, use it, and provide us with some feedback, we would really appreciate it.

Thanks,
Shane

« on: March 05, 2008, 02:31:20 PM »
Hello everyone!

I am currently working on an innovative project that is for the benefit of the entire military family. If you wouldn't mind, I have a quick survey that I would like to distribute to you guys so I can get a better idea of how I should proceed. The survey is quick, it should take you less than 5 minutes.

Thanks for your time,
Shane Gibson

Quote from: "Doc Hollywood"
if just one of those students had been legally carrying a firearm that shooter could have been stopped....

Who is to say that the student who perpetrated the shooting was not legally carrying?

Nowhere in the article does it say anything about carry laws, or the politics involved. This is a tragic event, pure and simple, not some gun control platform, and those that view it that way will be seen as what they are, idiots. Personally, I think it's foolish to allow guns on any campus. There is way, way too much testosterone and bravado flying about on some college campuses, and the potential for things to escalate out of control is too great. That said, this event should not be used for political grandstanding on either side of the aisle, it should simply be viewed as a tragic, despicable crime.

Accessories & Gear / Bowman vs. Pryme "Medium Duty Boom Mic"
« on: January 28, 2007, 07:28:50 PM »
So, I was wondering where I should take my communications budget. Bowmans look pretty good, but isn't there extensive jheri rigging involved if I want to get it to work with my Icom? If not, I was looking at the Pryme SPM-1400 series boom mic. If anyone has any insight, I would really appreciate your input.

AEG's / New Build
« on: May 11, 2006, 06:24:32 AM »
So, I was thinking about starting a new build. My plan was to take a CA M15 SPC, or some CA gun with wiring in the back, get a Modstock, and throw a G&G M4 SD RAS on the front. I have a few questions though. Does the CA have that nifty two piece gear box, or is that just ICS? Next, I know G&G guns are not that great, but how about their accessories? Third, what battery would be best to use in the Modstock? Lastly, does anyone have any of these items for sale? (Keep in mind though, that I am just thinking about it at this point, I don't know for sure if I will do it.) I would prefer opinions with first hand knowledge, but anything at this point is very welcome.

Thanks
