What would you do if you bought a Guarder AKS-74U?
« on: April 07, 2005, 08:23:18 PM »
I know what some of you are thinking. But Its a AK thing, you M16 Varent people would not understand. However, I was wondering should I go with 300+ fps or like 350-365fps with high speed motor, and gears? Or Should I just deck it out to nearly 400fps with high torque instead?

That's a sweet piece of steel!

I voted 300 fps, and here's why.  It's got a short barrel, which is more conducive to indoor fights.  Anything beyond 300 fps for indoor games in superfluous in my opinion (actually anything beyond 250, but that beside the point).

Since this is not your only AK, and I assume the other one is upgraded, it would be a wise choice to keep this one tricked, but with a low fps.

Not to mention the fact that a HS motor will not do well with any spring/gear ratio that would allow 365 fps.

But that's just my opinion-which is what you asked for! 8)

I also quote AA on this one "All AirsoftArizona CQB/CQC games require the use of STOCK AEG's and/or GBB's under 300 FPS with .20g BB's for safety reasons." The reason I put this is, because if I am going to keep it at a low FPS would it still be allow to be used in a (AA) CQB scrim?

Below 300 fps with .20's and it's GTG, per AA rules!

That's why I mentioned the indoor thing.

If it were up to me, that would be 250 fps, but we can't all go swapping out our springs and porting our cylinders before a game now can we?  The 300 rule is to encourage the use of stock AEGs which normally run below 300.

As it reads, though, if it's below 300 with .20g BBs, it's okay for use.  No matter what type of spring you use.

Official AA CQB skirmishes are very rare, so I wouldn't consider it for such a gun.  Set it up for how you will use it most, and find an alternative for CQB.

Normally, I would suggest getting close to 400 and accurate semi-auto fire, but if you want that rebel spray-and-pray feel, go with high ROF.

Hope is the first step down the road of disappointment.
Only the awkward question; only the foolish ask twice.

If I bought it... I'd sell it and get an M4

Seriously though, I agree with Christian. And you can still use your gun for cqb, as long as it has the same power as a stock aeg.

High ROF isn't just for full-auto fire.  I like it because there's less trigger-delay in semi.

Yes, CQB games are rare, but he has another AEG and it's good to have some variety.

I am not one for spray and pray. I use to have a lead finger, but I dont any more.  If you guys played with a bunch of kalifornia crazy Asians who like to cheat in CQB. I would bet you would have developed a Lead finger. I like full auto over semi for curtain distances. However, I like to do short bursts. You figure that three bb's makes up to one bullet for accuracy.

Christian makes a great point in the fact of what is it going to be used for? If simply for CQB by all means do 300 or below, but for normal I know I myself have a 400 fps upgrade for my LR and my barrel is probably only slightly longer than yours. It depends on the type of player you are more than anything else in my opinion if it's worth anything to you.

I don't know much about guns, but I know for certain that my favorite gun I Sthe AKs74u.. and I want that kit so bad, but it's an expensive friggin kit!

And I'd leave my internals as they are.. jsut a spring, 330fps with .25's. Perfect for me.

Even at 300 an AK is really acturate. But personally I use my side arm for CQB. So go 400 and use the sidearm.

Ice, are we going to have to have an intervention and get into AKA.... lol

We have got to do alot, and for you others that are apart of MOSKVASPETSNAZ better get your act together, and tell us when is good times to meet. But back on subject I think I have decided that this gun Classifies as a medium range weapon.  Therefore since I already have a gun for CQB I will make it 350fps+ with high ROF. I also aready have an AK that shoots at 400fps.
