stuck on which chest rig.
« on: January 12, 2006, 04:30:27 PM »
Ok Well I'm just getting into airsoft and naturally looking for somethign to hold magazines.  I'm thinking these.

weesatch
http://www.practicaltactical.net/Detail.bok?no=37

hellcat mk-1
http://www.practicaltactical.net/Detail.bok?no=147

black hawk commando
http://www.blackhawk.com/product_detail ... id=2026&d=

I'm mostly just looking for something very secure and holding atleast 8 magazines.  ( i know the mk-1 doesn't but I was hoping i could add more pouches to it.)   I want to be able to run and not having it bounce all around.  I like being agile but still want to have a ok amount of ammo at reach.  Also I would like atleast 8 magazines because i want like 5-8 mags to be star 30cap with the remaining hi-caps( just in case)

A side question, does star 30cap mags still have a problem fitting CA metal bodies?
thanks

edit: I know it sounds confusing, But Simply, I want something that won't move. I'm leaning twards the MK-1. But if the others are secure then IDK.

you'll regret not getting the weesatch. it has a lot of real estate to mount packs and so forth. way better than the hellcat unless you are wanting to travel light.. my 2cents

VINCE.. any suggestions ?? ( our resident gear whore )

ok i'm thinking the weesatch also. From the pictures it looks like you can add more pouches. what type of pouches would those be?

Edit: also would OD green or khaki/tan be more usefull?

I'd go with the OD.  I like it because you can wear it with both desert and woodland and it blends in well.  Even in the desert, there is a lot of green where we skirmish.

Some people really like the Coyote Brown or Smoke Green colors.

I personally have bought gear from Tim at Practical (3-day pack).  He has great customer service  and his prices are good also.

Out of those choices. I'd also say weesatch. But I'll also say that plate carriers are a lot more comfortable and can hold more. Don't edit those out in the list of options.

the weesatch looks like you can get the most out of the 3 in the long run, but you can never go wrong with blackhawk.

Everyone has his or her personal favorites and opinions. I really like my rigs from HSGI. The Weesatch is also manufactured in the Jacksonville, NC area so made in the US is another plus for the HSGI over the Blackhawk. However, depending on the amount of gear you plan to carry into the field you may want to examine a plate carrier. As others have mentioned you can’t go wrong with ordering from Tim at Practical Tactical his prices are great and customer service is excellent.

Panzer,

Thank you for the kind words.

Elixar - while Blackhawk may be a decent value option in gear, a blanket 'you can never go wrong with Blackhawk' statement is just silly.

Aside from the STRIKE line of gear, which is well made (regardless of country of origin and politics), the rest of it is a crap-shoot.  Popped stitches on holsters, gloves that unravel after minimal use.  I won't get into the whole ethical issue of them copying stuff done by everyone else (including unique designs), since that's nothing to do with gear quality.

One can 'go wrong' with any piece of gear...esp. if you buy the wrong gear for the wrong mission.  Granted, we're talking airsoft here, but many of the same issues still apply, unless you are going for a certain look ('impression' as they say in Europe).

The Wasatch design has its place, to be certain.  It was designed for door-kickers who needed armor and ammo. It was designed to be worn over body armor.  The Weesatch addressed some of these limitations (smaller folks or folks who didn't wear armor), additional shoulder pads addressed the non-armor wear.

As I, and other here, have counseled on MANY occasions, figure out (to the best of your ability) how you will be using this stuff....THEN decide what items fit that role.

"Rural" operations?  Perhaps a patrol vest would work better.

MOUT ops or in and out of vehicles a lot?  Perhaps a chest rig.

Body Armor?  Do you want to attach your gear directly or in a separate rig?

When i said 'you can never go wrong with Blackhawk' i was talking about their lifetime guarantee, and also because i support that company, i wasnt trying to say it was better, anyways no need to argue over this.

absent40 you should just get the vest you think you will like the most, not what others will like the most.

I have a suggestion.
Ask some people at games to let you try on their rig, and or tell you the pluses and minuses of each type.
