M14 flash hider
« on: January 20, 2008, 07:44:23 PM »
I have a CA M14 match that I can't get the flash hider off of. I want to put a can on the end.   I removed the set screw but the flash hider is not budging.  I was told to turn it clock-wise to get it off, but even tried to go the other direction briefly.  It is hard to get a good purchase, but it hasn't moved at all.

I looked at some other forums and someone suggested that it has some type of adhesive or lock tight on it....not sure.

I'm afraid I'll break something. :x

Any suggestions from people who have successfully removed one?

Either pliers (if they can get a good grip) or a screwdriver through the slots for leverage.

It's usually glued on (don't know why).

I'll try vice grips...or maybe a dam pipe wrench.

I tried the screwdriver and it just broke off one of the ribs. :x

Heat it up and tape some visegrips.

Right on, I was thinking about doing that....didn't think about the vice grips.

I don't have a propane torch.
