Does it feel like some mod of BF2? I know I felt that Battlefield Vietnam felt like a mod of 1942, in that it didn't make any significant changes to the engine, other than adding plants and trees.

I play BF2 all the time, haven't made the transition yet.  Not sure if the ranking carries over.

What are you at right now andy?

Because I've been playing it on and off I'm still stuck at Gunny, but I am very close to making First Sergeant.

Thats probably the best way to describe the game. Obviously they had to change a few details to make it futuristic, but it basically plays out the same. The vehicles use the same piloting system and its still the basic control point gameplay. The biggest difference is that in order to win the round, you have to destroy a large floating fortress. This can be done by taking control points or by sabotaging it from the inside.

- I have BF2142. I'd been wanting to get into the Battlefield series for a while and decided to go with the newest one, instead of what seemed to be everyone's favorite, BF2. There are two modes of online gameplay, conquest and titan mode.
- It's pretty fun. And from what I have read on both BF2 and BF2142 is that everything else is relatively the same.

I never knew that three inches was the minimum length for a handgun barrel. I guess all of the anti-gun politicians wont be able to register their penises.

I'm a Master Sergeant, I have all the points (23,000) and all the badges, but for some reason I'm not getting the First Sergeant.  I know you need:

"Awards: Basic Knife Combat Badge, Basic Pistol Combat Badge, Basic Assault Combat Badge, Basic Anti-tank Combat Badge, Basic Sniper Combat Badge, Basic Spec Ops Combat Badge, Basic Support Combat Badge, Basic Engineer Combat Badge, Basic Medic Combat Badge "

I have all of them, and I still haven't gotten the promotion, kinda stuck right now.  My screen name is SNAP_TUCSON

Vietnam WAS a mod for 1942...
I don't have 2142, but I do have Battlefield 2.  My friend has 2142, and it looks waaay different.  Teams have, like motherships, ABOVE the battlefield, and scouts can sneak on and blow them up or something, and the classes are different.  No more "earn a gun and use it" you have to put some energy into becoming a good sniper for example, not just unlock a gun.  I think.

- You earn unlocks as you gain points for capturing areas, destroying strategic objects, and killing enemies. You can use the unlocks to get accessories pertaining to specific soldier types (called "kits"--recon, assault, supporter, engineer) or you can use the unlocks for permanent enhancements, such as the ability to run longer, faster, have grenades, etc.
- Speaking of which. Anyone with BF2142 can add me as "Fererzemsko." I use him most often with the support kit.

I play BF2 and BF2142 and to say the least. I prefer BF2 just because it is modern day weaponry. BF 2142 just looks to futuristic and a bit more complicated. Like Morgann described, you actually have to be good at what you do to get upgrades for kits and such.

Why play either BF2 or BF2142 when you can play airsoft and shoot real people?  :-k

Because there's lots of stuff you can do in a video game that you can't do in airsoft?  Not to mention that there is not an airsoft game going on 24/7.
