Those would be a awesome projectile.  My other tank shoots those pocket nerf vortex footballs, but I like the these better. Now if I could just find some in stock somewhere.

Cardboard mock-up of the body...............

I made the body from 5mm plywood and then covered it with do it yourself bedliner stuff. The goal was to keep it light and cheap.

To get inside the whole body lifts up. like a funny car.

And the final product.................

To keep the weight down, the turret does not move nor does the gun. Right now we are just using a paintball marker for the main gun.

I took it a truck scale and it weighs 540 lbs. The body comes off with two bolts and weighs 60lbs.

And finally a video showing both our tanks doing battle. It's a little corny....my kids are into the World of tanks online game and they wanted a "Fan" video.

Anyway enjoy............

General Off-Topic Discussion / Airsoft tank.
« on: November 01, 2013, 11:06:50 PM »
Hey guys, I made myself a little airsoft tank and thought I'd share a few build photos. To inspire or not,  as the case may be.

This thing is made from, found and scavenged parts, mostly.  It is based, loosely, on a WWll Tiger Tank.

The tracks started life as 2 snowmobiles. I made some frames and connected them together.

Then I used a 6 speed trans-axle and a 11hp engine out of a ridding lawn mower. Connected with a torque converter off a old go-kart. the brakes are off a 4 wheeler. This photo only shows one brake. I added another once I stole...I mean "found " another one.

I then ran chains to sprockets at the front of the tracks.

And that bring us to this ...............

The ultimate assault vehicle...... :o

Ok...thats all for tonight. Stay tuned............. 8)

Airsoft Items WANTED / WTB Mp5 / Mp7

I'm looking for a gun for my 12 year old boy. He wants a Mp5 or mp7. Something around 300 fps and extra mags are a plus. Mostly looking for an older name brand gun that works or needs a  little work, scratches and banged up ok. He'll just drop it anyway. Also you need to be willing to ship.

Thanks.

That was a great game.

As a dad playing along with his son I really appreciate the good sportsmanship and the lack of profanity. After the last game we went to I was almost ready to give up on airsoft.  Thanks for a great event.

Congratulations!!

Oh you'll be back. If any thing take a couple of springer pistols so you'll have something to do on p-day. I know I would have loved to shoot a couple of my companions...;)

Good luck!

There are a few of us in the Show low area. The last time we all got together there were about 12 of us, mostly 18-30 year olds. I don't know of any "teams" or dedicated fields though. If you want to give me your contact info I can let you know the next time we plan to get together.

Thanks. It is hard to stay motivated on such a long, drawn out project. The key for me was to do something on it every day, no matter how small, and next thing you know you're done.

Ok............

I'll chime in here.

First, for blueprints the best thing to do is buy a plastic model like a 1:32 scale, you know the type you have to glue together, don't glue it together and you can get all sorts of measurements (just scale them up), see how it is built and put together, lots of valuable information.

If you want to make it full scale, like it says above, use a doner vehicle and fake tracks.

I made a 2/5 scaled M1 Abrams. It took me over a year and over $3000. It runs on tracks and is not very usable out in the field. Very high maintenance. Most "Tank parts" I had to make myself. The tacks are homemade from conveyor belting.

I would suggest you check out  http://www.scaledtanks.com/news.php

If you really want to build a tracked vehicle they can help you do it.
