My real steel sniper rifle
« on: August 26, 2003, 11:47:46 AM »
Here is my real steel sniper rifle with Kyle Russle's gorgeous desert camo paint job!

It is a Ruger M77 MkII VLE (Varmint/Law Enforcement) in .308 Win. It has the laminate wood stock, but it had the wide beaver-tail forestock (which I don't like), so I took a hand plane to it and made it more traditional. The laminate stock has no checkering, so I textured it w/ some of that 'Stone fleck' paint. The scope is the Tasco Super Sniper mil dot 10 x 42 which the Navy Seals use on their M14 Sniper rifle. The Tasco Super Sniper is the overruns of that government contract. The cheek rest is made by Eagle Industries and straps onto the buttstock via three 1" velcro straps. It has some black synthetic suede of some sort that I really like. It hold 5 rounds on the other side, and has a zipper pouch for whatever. I liked the Eagle Ind. version over Blackhawk's. The suede stuff feels better than the vinyl on the Blackhawk variant and the quality seems to be a notch higher.

Overall, I am VERY pleased with Kyle's paint job. He is REALLY good! The gun is accurate as heck. I get 2-2.5" groups at 250 yds. That is MOA accuracy or better, and that is using my tailgate as a benchrest! If I go prone w/ sandbags, I'm sure it will do sub-MOA.
