New to Airsofting.
« on: March 12, 2012, 02:53:05 AM »
Hey guys I am very interested in starting to airsoft.

The questions I have and dont blame me for being cheap or being a newb. If anyone can hook me up with someone to kinda show me the ropes where to get a cheap starter gun. What all equipment is needed and required. And how much is basically an introductory guy gonna expect to pay for a new yet good enough starting. Obviously down the road I will be able to afford the bigger better stuff and get things going hard. Just looking for someone to help get me started. Loan gear for a first game stuff like that.

Hope someone can help.

Go on Craigslist for an Airsoft gun. Some of those kids don't know what they have and sell them real cheap. Try and stick with echo1,kwa,jg and Tokyo mauri. Those are the top makers I stand by.

Depends on where you are, you might be able to come some small scale matches we put on every once and a while.  Shoot me a PM, as they have a facebook group, so the matches usually dont get posted here.  As far as gear and guns go, I've seen a wide spread of gear setups, from hardcore mil-sim players who run with a full plate carrier and helmet, to others that I know that run with nothing more than a T-shirt and BDU pants, and a mag pouch on their belt.  When you go to look for a gun, the first place I would look is right here on the forums, as there are a lot of people who have been playing for a long time, and every once and a while they'll thin their collection a bit.

Check the Classified list here, for sure. You'll be able to find some great deals. I'm also new to airsoft, and wish I would've found this forum before buying. Gearbox down in Tempe also sells some good used stuff (don't let their website fool you ... Gearbox is great).

Unfortunately Im looking for a starter AEG not a spring loader. I wanna go play with the big boys. And add the realism.

This is not a cheap sport, you need to have a realistic budget.  If you are only looking to spend $30, you might as well go down to Walmart and get a clear springer from them.

Trust me if your a starter you do not want to take the path of a sniper. It is extremely challenging. I learned this the hard way wasting about $400 on sniper gear. Just stick with a aeg for now and get the feel for airsoft.

(and by the way a spring action sniper is NOT more realistic than an aeg)

100% correct, TBH a realistic budget to get "started" for airsoft is most likely around $300~. Or $200~ if you settle for the cheapest you can find.

@ the new guy Octagon. You are not the person this post is directed towards.

Yeah Its Otacon btw. Not Octagon. And ive dealt with spring action bolts. Im not saying I havent played with airsoft guns. I just want to go into the big leagues rather than doing a night game in a park with all blacked out stuff.

Now I will get a sniper later on. But I will go for high end 500 or more FPS. And something that actually sounds and looks real. Not something that goes pop from airpressure from a spring. I want more of a actual good boom like Ive seen in the videos Ive watched.

Now I have found on this site a MK36C. But would like some opinions on it.

Tell me what you guys think and if its worth it as a starter gun.

My Friend, I am not sure how to tell you this, but your quote as follows:

"Im not saying I havent played with airsoft guns. I just want to go into the big leagues rather than doing a night game in a park with all blacked out stuff."

What you seem to be saying is that is what you have been doing, (I call it kinda like little kids peeing in the park in the dark), if so you are crapping on the reputation of the sport of airsoft and bringing down the fine serious players on AA...

You are putting youself in the classification of JAILBAIT, just a matter of time when the local law enforcment community answers a citizens call of armed people all blacked out in a park...

Now my friend that will only spill over onto the legit airsoft communitys reputation in a very bad way...

Now do you really want to be the person that causes a situation like that?

I would suggest you browse thru AA, there is a wealth of info posted to the various areas of AA by some very knowlegable airsofters that will help you in your quest of what you need...

But you must do most, if not all of your own research and have a generous supply of money...

Visit some of the airsoft fields and shops, watch, listen and learn, above all be mature, repectful and you will find many of your answers...

I am not sure that I have heard airsoft guns that go BOOM, and be sure that I know the difference in the sound an airsoft gun makes and a BOOM, don't watch too many videos, look, learn and listen in person...

Nuff Said, going to kennel and dream of the old days when I could still chase cats:)
