Site Suggestions / Chronoing
« on: March 06, 2005, 09:37:35 PM »
I believe that we need to be less lenient on the chronoing at games.  If a max fps is 400.  It should be 400.  If your AEG is hot, and you want to be a sniper, you should have a gun that is modified to prevent auto fire.  Otherwise, you have to use a different gun, period.

At the Mar. 6th game I witnessed a player that had a very hot gun, go auto on people.  Granted they were at a decent distance, but that doesn't mean someone is not going to pop up and get plugged at a closer range.

I was plugged from behind by a gun that I question its fps.  When you feel BBs strongly through your camelback and vest at the range from where I was shot, something seems amiss.

The reason we chrono is not to level the playing field or to make the guns work a deficiently.  The reason is safety.  We all take risks when we airsoft, and we take responsibility for that.  However, it is with the understanding that all guns shoot a particular amount of energy, and we have protective gear to accomodate that fact.

Disallowing hot guns is a service for people on both sides of the trigger.  First, for those that can't really afford a trip to the dentist or worse yet a trip to the eye doctor, it is good to know that you are playing on a field populated by weapons for which you have taken necessary and prudent precautions against injury.  On the other side, you have confirmed that your weapon is not an unnecessary danger to any fellow player.  Personally, I would be crushed if I accidentally permanently injured someone and found out after the fact my gun was hot.

The first rule is safety.

Accessories & Gear / Painting Gear
« on: February 22, 2005, 12:12:58 PM »
I'll be getting a black blackhawk dropleg magpouch and I want to paint it tan to better match my desert tri-color BDUs.  What paint works best on this type of gear?

I tried searching, but couldn't find a thread that covered painting gear...lots and lots of guns, but little gear.

Accessories & Gear / Boots for Real Soldiers
« on: December 22, 2004, 12:25:45 PM »
My mother is part of some adopt-a-soldier program, and I am tasked with finding a good set of boots for a soldier.  I'd like some input from some former/current service people on what would be good.

I have been looking at the Desert Combat Boots section at Botach.

Which, if any, of these are good for real work?

What should I be looking for?

Super thanks in advance.

AEG's / MP5K as a Backup?
« on: September 12, 2003, 04:32:55 PM »
I have been considering options for a backup weapon.  One possibility that I was considering was an MP5K.  Does anyone have one that they could bring to the Sept. 13th skirmish that I could check out?  Also, if anyone else has tread down this path, I'd like to know what the result was.

AEG's / Frequency of Adjusting Hop Up
« on: September 12, 2003, 04:29:45 PM »
How often do people find themselves adjusting their hop up?  I've had only a few skirmishes, and each time I've had something different with my AEG.  Soon I'll be done with monkeying around with it, and I was wondering if it would be worth my time to zero it in.  Do people find themselves adjusting prior to each skirmish?  If so, I may as well wait until before the next time I use it.

AEG's / Gear/Cylinder Grease
« on: August 17, 2003, 06:00:40 PM »
What should I use to grease the gears in my gearbox?  I have heard there are alternatives to the Systema greases that I can purchase locally.  What have people here used when upgrading their guns?  I am adding high-speed gears if that makes a difference.  In the future, I plan on upgrading another AEG with torque-up gears and heavier spring.  Will I use different greases?

Accessories & Gear / Controlling Excess Straps
« on: August 08, 2003, 09:50:18 AM »
I just got my new LBV setup.  I now have about a half dozen strap ends hanging from everywhere.  What have people found to be the best way to keep the excess straps contained?

AEG's / CQB legal Modifications
« on: August 06, 2003, 10:51:36 AM »
I was unsure where to post this, but this seemed like the most relavent forum.

I am still a newbie to airsoft, so I am still fumbling with stuff.  As an engineer, I have a hard time not monkeying with stuff.  I had some ideas on what I want to do with my civilian AUG for use in CQB.  However, after discussing these ideas with a friend, he mentioned that for CQB, the AEG's have to be stock with no upgrades.  I was under the impression that keeping it "stock" was to prevent the velocity from going over 300 fps.  Anyway, before I drop some money on customizations, I'd like to find out what is "legal" for an AA CQB environment.  I'll list my current ideas for upgrade for individual line-item veto.

First, I want to attach a silencer.  For the AUG, I planned to remove the stock outer barrel and replace it with the SMG barrel and silencer.  Note that the silencer really just covers up the inner barrel.  This should have no effect on the gun performance really, though technically it is more invasive than other cosmetic strap-on accessories.

Second, to make it silent(the effect of the look of the above silencer) I wanted to install a silent piston head.  This should have no effect on the performance of the gun other than to make it silent.  However, it is an invasive "upgrade".  Would padding the gearbox as I’ve read about on other forum topics be considered an upgrade as well?

Third, while the above mods I believe are not really upgrades, these latter two I believe might be.  I wanted a higher ROF, so was planning on a HS gear set and motor.  While upgrading ROF, the fps should not be affected as the spring would be an M100, which keeps it about 275 fps I believe, if not, I’d retain the stock spring to maintain ~275 fps.

The last modification, a higher-accurracy tighter inner barrel, would actually affect fps from what I have read.  However, I do not think it will push it from 275 to 300+.

Which, if any, of these are acceptable for AA CQB games?  For those USAS members on the boards as well, are any, or all, of these “illegalâ€￾?

Thanks

I notice several members have velcro on their BDUs for patches.  Where do you get the OD velcro for this?

Accessories & Gear / Can someone explain radios to me?
« on: July 15, 2003, 11:36:55 AM »
After the July 12th game, I found out that not having a radio really stunk as I found myself in a few situations where I had either lost my squad or needed FOF confirmation.  I know in one scenario, my team used "channel 60".  When looking at FRS radios, I see that most descriptions say that they have 14 channels and 38 subcodes.  Am I even looking at the right type of radio?  Is there a good breakdown on what to get in a radio to ensure it is compatible?

Accessories & Gear / Prescription Safety Eyewear
« on: June 10, 2003, 10:38:55 AM »
Does anybody here need to wear glasses when they play?  I am just starting, but I know that I will need them as I am near sighted.  Any suggestions on makes and models that work well and have prescription add-ins or lenses available?
Here is what I have seen:
ESS Turbo Cam Tactical Goggles are supposed to fit over most prescription eyewear.  Any experience if this is true?

Both the Bolle T800 and ESS Profile NVG1 have Rx inserts.  Do these inserts bother players?

I think there are  prescription lenses available for Wiley SG-1 or XG-1, but I haven't verified this.  If so, it would be like just wearing them, so that would be an advantage.

Thanks in advance.

AEG's /
« on: September 30, 2004, 07:25:03 AM »
I would guess it wouldn't help.  Why I say that is because the silent piston head works by cushioning the hitting area of the piston head to the cylinder head.  This reduces the sharp pop/crack that most AEGs have when they fire.  The whining noise sounds like the motor/gearing, like an RC car.  I have an M15 as well with the same issue...as well as others :P

Do you have any feeding problems with yours?

General Airsoft Discussion /
« on: September 08, 2004, 07:33:58 PM »
Well, assuming the stock fps is 280 fps you can do the following.

280 * sqrt(spring%/100)

Thus, your 300% spring should shoot approximately 484 fps optimally.

For interest, this uses the conservation of energy law and the proportion of approximate kinetic energies represented by
.5 * mass1 * velocity1^2 * (spring% / 100) =
.5 * mass2 * velocity2^2
Since mass1 = mass2 and .5 = .5 and velocity1 = 280 fps
280fps^2 * (spring% / 100) = velocity2^2

Finally:
velocity2 = 280 * ((spring% / 100)^.5) fps

Hope this helps more than hurts.

Physics is Phun!

Registered as Independent(no party, not Independent party) and NOT voting.

I have a thing against political parties and primaries.  I voted against Independents being allowed in primaries as well. [:P]

Voting in the primaries upholds the political-party system.
