Just got Scammed. Someone. Please. Help. Me.
« on: June 02, 2014, 06:12:38 PM »
So I met this guy on AirsoftSociety. He lives in Marana, AZ. We agreed on a trade. I was to trade my LM4 with all the accessories included, and he was to trade his P* 416. Everything seemed right. I even talked to his mother, who said it was okay to trade with him.

So I received the package today. I look at the box. Hm, the box seems awfully small. I open it up, take a peek inside, and just throw it against the wall. The guy gave me a fricken Crossman Pulse M4. I texted the scammer, and no reply. Of course. Why would he even reply?

I call the Phoenix Police Department. An officer is sent to my residence, and I get a police report written up. What he says is that since the crime happened in Marana, I should contact the Marana Police Department. The officer informs me that he will get the police report to the detective, but has no guarantees that the detective will look into the case. So I call the Marana PD. They tell me that there is nothing that they can do, because they cannot file the same report twice and since I live in the city of Phoenix, the Phoenix PD should be the ones helping me.

I'm in a tough situation right now. Please help me get my beloved LM4 back. Any help and info would be greatly appreciated.

Get an address and pay him a visit. Bring a few friends for backup.

It's a shitty situation to be sure, but I'm not sure what help or info you expect to get from us.  You've contacted the police which is about all you can legally do.  Given the fact you say you talked to his mother, that would imply you were dealing with a minor which would make it even harder to get anything done.

If you haven't already, post this on TAC

http://tucsonairsoftcoalition.com/forum/

Also include his screen name, if you can find someone that knows him it may be easier to resolve without the police[for instance getting ahold of his parents]. Also post pictures of the gun you received, it may help your case.

If that doesn't work, you can always shame him on every well known airsoft forum by posting his address and phone number with this story below it. Not that I condone such actions  8)

Ya dude. Marana is an hour drive for me. I'd have been at his doorstep with the po'lice an hour after I got that package in the mail. That's fraud and generally not cool anyways. I'm assuming there was a return address on the package?

Would you say your LM4 was worth more than $500? If so that's grand theft. Chances are the Marana PD doesn't want to bother being they have a whole department that's around 150 people.
Contact the Pima County Sheriff's department.
Personally, I'd pay him a visit. Forget internet justice.

As much as I like the idea of direct visit. Its a good way of getting some legal hassle, though, both you being minors, I am not sure if it would.

I would always be proactive, when I do a deal, I always film the gun working, complete, and boxed up, with some way of proving it hasn't left the box since the video.

Then they ship first, and you, when you get it, film you bringing it in, and cutting the seal, and opening it.
If its a scam, you ship it back at your cost, and never think of it again.

The best way to beat being scammed, is documentation.

I have been scammed 2-3x, and never had an issue getting it resolved.

Also why you should "Trade for Money" - you pay him, he ships, he uses that $ to buy your gun, you ship.

I am a TAC board member and a resident of Marana. Chances are it was not a TAC member that did that to you, however there are one or two that might. Its more likely one of the speed softers from the local fields and none of us would know him. Provide me with any personal info you have on the guy and we will be vigilant.
