yep....
« on: August 02, 2008, 12:40:32 PM »
...another one.  I didn't make my first post here, but #2 isn't too bad.  Not much to tell about me, but here goes.  I picked up a new GSG-5 the other day (MP5 clone in .22LR) and found out that genuine HK parts fit (while usually needing much modification), but airsoft parts are usually a direct replacement.  So, I came here looking for parts.  I've never really looked into airsoft because I always thought it was full of little punks and I.T. geeks wanting to play soldier without the commitment (hence the username; kind of like what I originally thought of airsoft, lots of fun but you didn't want your friends to find out), but was surprised to find so many former military in this sport.

I've even seen some familiar usernames from other boards; I had no idea that so many people I know are into this.  I also had no idea of the quality of weapons that are available now; the few that I saw initially were really cheesy looking and reeked of "toy gun."  But after a bit of research, I became more intrigued.  Now, I'm on the lookout for an M4-type rifle, M16A2-type rifle and G21 pistol, if I can locate some that closely mimic my real weapons in weight/function/etc. for CQB/force-on-force training.

Looking forward to learning a lot and bugging the people I know have the answers....

  No offense intended, every group has that 10% they're ashamed of; I just try not to be in that 10%.  But like I said, that's what I USED to liken airsoft to (when I didn't know any better).  I find myself really interested in the sport now, and can definitely see it's advantages in some areas.  Who knows, maybe someday I'll dig out the MARPAT and show up at a game...

Hell yeah this is full of Prior Service, Active Duty, Guard and Reservist's. Alot are OIF/OEF combat vets as well. Also there are a ton of civilians here that are really good guys as well, and even though they are civilians they sometimes know more about militay subject matter then some servicemen.

Get a gun built or stop by Gearbox in Tempe and buy and I hope to see you out there sometime.

On a referral from a friend/member of this site, I went down to Gearbox yesterday and picked up a few rifles.  Nothing special, but should serve me well in the beginning.  The Gearbox was a pleasant experience for me as well; it's hard to find that level of customer service anymore and I'll definitely be back.  Back to reading the manual and doing a bit more research; the pigeons are now weighing the consequences of their movement inside my AO...

I picked up a M15A4 and a BT5A2 by Classic Army.  I compared the M15A4 to my carbine and I could barely tell the difference, but I still may add a bit of weight to the M15 to make them weight the same.  I'll found out how much after I get them both on the scale tomorrow.
