I love the ingenuity and the reliability of the polar star, but to me it just feels like airsoft had this distinct line and separation from paintball and now we have pressurized tanks and hoses again. I fell in love with airsoft because it lacked the hosing and it possessed a very real look to it, hahah but now our guns are very similar to paintball they just aren't as messy :P I love the technology, but I love the compact mechbox more.

You do know airsoft started that way, right?

As HPA systems? I admit I didn't know that, that is not what I have heard in the past, but that fact aside, I still appreciate the polar star and its performance, and would love to buy one. however I am still going to stick to my mechbox, not a huge fan of HPA and hoses. I never said I like airsoft because of how its originally was operated, I said I liked airsoft because it was different than paintball and looked realistic. Should've known I'd take flack for objecting the polar star :P. And I was under the impression that the first airsoft guns utilized green gas, and not tanks on your back? Green gas operated guns and HPA tanks are two different subjects. I cannot find any articles saying that the first airsoft guns used for competition and recreation used HPA tanks. All the ones I find read that green gas was originally used.

Just look at sun project M4's. Damn those things are awesome. Too bad they're almost in posible to find, and if you do, plan on spending.... A LOT.

Google classic airsoft.  You'll find companies like JAC, Asahi, MGC, Kokusai, FTC, etc.  Externally powered gas gun far pre-date green gas guns.  I'm not giving you flack for not liking the P*, just giving you a history lesson.  :)

I think they just became less popular since the mechbox overcame it, and eventually disappeared.
