Title: Shooting Match: Tucson
Post by: andyhinds on February 13, 2005, 09:44:24 PM
Anybody in Tucson who is interested in shooting a steel target "fun match" let me know if you are interested.  Every 4th Sat. as the Pima Pistol Range we set up two bays for a "fun match" moving targets, spinners, twisters, dogs, CQB shooting, etc.  All guns can be used (except AR's at close range), shotguns, .22's, centerfire pistols and Class 3 weapons.

Cost is $8 (which is the range fee).

Where's the range located?  I also assume that the next meet will be the 26th?

The range is in Catalina, just North of Oro Valley.  You can find a map at www.pimapistol.org (http://www.pimapistol.org)

Cool.  I think I'm going to try and show up.  I really need some practice time with my Steyr GB.

You can bring ANY guns you want.  9mm's, AR's, shotguns, Class 3's, etc.  We usually set up a course of 60+ rounds, mostly steel targets.

Here's a pic of what one of the stages looks like, the "texas star" in the center starts rotating once you start shooting the plates off it.  All the targets can be shot with shotguns, pistols and .22 rifle (no centerfire on the steel, leaves a divet)

There are a lot more targets than in the pic, 40% are already knocked down.

Hey, I'm definitely interested. About how many people show up on average?
Title:
Post by: andyhinds on February 16, 2005, 02:37:51 PM
Hmmm, 4-12.  Better with fewer people cause you shoot more..... but less people to go out and set up targets.  What kind of gats you have?

gats. . . . I'm assuming you mean firearms. I have a Colt Commander .45, Springfield M1A, an AR, a no-name .22 rifle, and I just bought a baretta shotgun.

Hey you should post this on the other forum.

www.arizonashooting.com (http://www.arizonashooting.com)

There's a few Tucson guys on that board.

What's the maximum range available for the shoot?  I wouldn't mind making sure my scope for my SVD is sighted in for 100 meters.

we'd like to keep it under 20 people.  The range wanted to post it on their monthly news letter (they have a match every Sunday morning).  We wanted to have a 'fun' match for people who don't want to shoot competitvely, specifically wives and kids of shooters, no timers, no course of fire.  Just walk out there and knock'em down as you see them.

I brought an Intern from work out last time for his first time shooting.....  I think we've converted him.  Good thing he doesn't live in Cali

Blurred out his pic to protect the innocent! ;)

They range has a 50yrd, 100yrd and 200yrd range(s).  we'll set up the stages at 7:30am.  We can put up a lot of barracades if you want, a quasi CQB.  (Although the next morning on Sunday they have a IDPA match, its a shooting course for people that carry concealed, Bohdi and I will be there)

Well, if that's the case, I may have to bring all my guns.  Well, except my Bushmaster Armspistol which is misbehaving.  :(

I usually bring the following:

Glock 22
Glock 19
Browning Buckmark
Shotgun
Ruger 10/22
Taurus 608
Taurus 92
Ar-15 M4
Ruger P89

By the end of the day I'm usually only using the .22's cause they are more fun, ammo is cheaper but I reload 9mm so its not a huge deal.  Bring Mandy, my wife shoot there too and she's still a beginner, perfect place for a novice or expert shooter.

Two .357 S&W revolvers
Lorcin .380
M1 Garand
M-91 Nagant
8mm Mauser

Sweet!  We can set up a CQB for the steel, remember there is a min 12yrd shooting distance though, so you don't get any splatter!

Unless something beyond my control happens, I'll be there.  :)

Oh, what time should we be showing up?

One thing to keep in mind is there is a wash right before the range, I'm going to head down on Thursday night and see how high the water is, that should be a good indicator for whether or not we can get across.

I'm dying to shoot a little real steel, been over a month.

Cool.  Just let us know.  I'm also dying to do some real steel.  It's been over two months for me.

Also, WHAT TIME?  :)

Sweet.  Amanda won't be able to make it, but her sister may tag along with me.  Oh, do they sell ammo there?

Tomorrow looks like a NO GO.  The wash in front is flooded up the banks cause of the rain.

Scott,

If you can make it, we start setting up all the rooms and steel at 7:30am, usually only takes 20min.

Hope to see you there.  If you need a map you can find one at www.pimapistol.org (http://www.pimapistol.org)

Title: Firearm in the 2nd photo
Post by: TheRev on March 27, 2005, 12:38:24 PM
The pistol in the second photo is a Bushmaster Bullpup (not the same Bushmaster who makes the modern AR's). This "pistol" came out in the early 80's and uses a design that combines the gas system of the AK series rifles with the bolt lock-up of the AR series. It was a novel design concept but had problems with feeding and extraction (in otherwords, it jammed alot). This bushmaster could not take care of the problems fast enough to satisfy customer needs and eventually went out of business. The current Bushmaster had to overcome the name recognition problem when they started up. But, as you can tell, the current Bushmaster is still here. I used to own a bullpup like the one in the second picture. The forward grip handle is designed to rotate on the barrel so righties and lefties could shoot it. I also owned the bushmaster rifle. They utilize standard AR mags. These guns were never serious competition for the AR series rifles.

The Rev would be entirely correct.  It is a Bushmaster Armspistol.  It is indeed an interesting little beastie.

Hey Andy, thanks for the pics man.  That was a lot of fun.  Definitely need to do that again.  :)
