airsoft and the use of grenades
« on: March 02, 2010, 12:06:19 AM »
well hopefully this one will not be deleted...im just trying to get a conversation going about grenades in airsoft...

now ive looked thru some of the top AA ranking members first posts and found a few of you that have argued against my side of the debate would have at one point in time would have been on my side of the fence in this matter to keep airsoft as real as posible...thats why alot of us switched to airsoft from paintballing...so to me it looks like this discussion needs to be discussed furthur...i was in the military at one point of my life and thats my main reason on keeping a mil-sim a military simulation...not just some game with a name and objectives...

instead of deleting this post let it go so it can be a discussion and when it starts to get "HEATED" then please delete the discussion...but only if its starts problems... [-o<

so on that note who likes grenades and who doesnt...and explain why please...who wants airsoft to stay as real as posible and who doesnt care 1 way or the other as long as they get to shoot a gun...let me know

thank you

I personally don't care if grenades are or are not allowed. I will say they do come in handy when people are just sitting behind cover for a long time

Here are some thoughts about why Marauders Tactical Training allows grenades at the Urban Assault Course.

Grenades are usually used to eliminate barricaded combatants or take space from defenders by forcing them to move to cover.

Our field discourages the use of grenades in open areas as players often have great difficulty assessing the distance of the grenade to their position.

As for why other games in AZ might have grenade restrictions, it may be partly due to the fact that most game locations in AZ don't have too many structures.

Until airsoft grenades can be made to effectively mirror the weapon system they are based upon I can understand and respect the restrictions on their use.

And if you think by drudging up old posts by us long term members to prove (or think you do) that we at one time felt as you did you are not helping your point nor making friends in this community.

I have seen many times altercations break out at games because of discrepancies between expected and actual outcomes of the use of mock weaponry. Whether it be shooting through brush, throwing a grenade on the other side of a tree, expected range of airsoft guns, expected range of area effect weapons, people using the fake weapon expect to get an outcome and are often disappointed when that outcome does not happen, even if it is through no fault of their own, or the device. Limiting grenade use is the prerogative of the organizer and though you define a "milsim" game as one that must involves grenades, they may define it otherwise.

exactly i think what the op needs to kind of see is that there is no set standard for milsim games - there are some favorites used frequently such as semi only for all rifleman or uniform restrictions that are frequent at desert hawks games. i personally love the advantage you can gain from using an airsoft grenade in a game i can just never find any of them locally so most of the time i deal without them.

I'm not really sure what the problem is here... If you want to use grenades in the games you participate in where they are allowed by the game organizers, go ahead.  If you are the game organizer and you want to allow people to carry and use grenades, go ahead.  Feel free to do so.  We can all pretty much do whatever we want...

i like what u said bro...true that on everything u said....and yes drudging thru may not help me gain friends...but isnt the main reason u switched over to airsoft from paintball was due to the realism it involves...now i know from you playing for years longer that i you can see the game evolve more than i have so you can see the true reason the game has changed...that the only reason i brough up ur old post...i want some one that has playing for years to tell me his thoughts on why the game has changed from being as real as all get out and become more of just shooting BB guns...thats all man...

thanks for replyin tho...

What I said was that the realism of airsoft to real stuff is better than paintball to real stuff.

The amount of realism has not increased or decreased over the years. It is still nowhere near the real thing and never will be.

I'm a big fan of grenades. IMO, they add a interesting aspect to any game. Sure, they may cause discrepancies but I've been to very few games where there wasn't some sort of altercation over ghosting.  I guess you just have to rely on the honor system, and hope that the guy on the other end calls it. If he doesn't, big deal...no different than hitting someone only to find out they're casper.

I suppose I'm pro airsoft grenades.  I've used them before, and they have their place, but I don't consider them compulsory to the event.
