Looking for a new gun? here is some suggestions!
« on: August 10, 2008, 09:37:25 AM »
There seems to be a lot of confusion as to what gun to buy within your price range, so instead of asking again and again here is a breakdown of guns to buy in pricing brackets.

0-$50
save your money. There are a lot of spring guns that you can get with a little dough, but as soon as someone you know gets and AEG the party is over.

$50-100
There are a few GBBs to be had in this price range but very few AEGs that are worth getting.

$100-150
M4 type and MP5 type: Classic army sportline series guns. They are similar to the original TM style weapons, with plastic bodies but metal internals.
Ak type: I would take a Dboys "kalash" AK over a cyma but with shipping it would put you edging into the next price bracket.
Pistol: most gbb guns fall in this price range.

$150-200
M4, MP5 and AK type: Echo 1 series guns. Metal bodies, metal gearboxes.

$200-300
This would be the begining of the "high-end" area, CA, TM, G&G etc... with this amount of cash you can usually scoop up some good used guns from the higher brackets.

$300-500
CA m15a4, SCAR-L most online stores have prices in this bracket.
Full range of guns, there are few that you wouldn't be able to afford.

$500+
CA M249
TH M240
M134
But who would want any of these??

Remember that you don't have to spend a lot on a gun to enter the sport, but there is more than just a decent AEG required for local play.
These are a necessity not a suggestion!

Camelbak $30-100
BDU set $50-70
Radio $25-100
Good outdoor shoes $30-100
Spare mags $20-30
BBs $10-20
death rag $1
goggles $30-100

Other's please chime in with your opinions!!!

I'm new to airsoft and have done alot of research and asking around about recomendations about AEG's, gear and the game in general.
I think the part about additional equipment should not be overlooked by any new player. Spend your money wisely and get a good all around package.
That's my opinion about getting the most enjoyment out of my investment. I've seen plenty of pictures of guys toting around $400-$500 guns using
high caps and wearing jeans, tee shirts and wearing bright blue backpacks. Just doesn't make sense to me. Excellent post Ganef.

how did you get a SAW for under 300$ new?! I paid 350$ for mine.  By the way, great post ganef, this should stop the endless streams of newbies asking "I just started softair and i want a new gun" <-because newbies call it softair.

Well first off I am a Pimp, and secondarily I am a cheap bastard who will hunt forever until I find the deal. Once I set my price I wont go over it. I actually paid $240 shipped to my door with a box mag, batt, and 4k bb's new. I can get another one, but I have processing fee's.  8)

The CA m249s are still pricey, the Echo 1 m249s are not. This list of course does not take into account used guns that go typically for $50-100 less than msrp.

A&Ks are too new on the scene for me to reccomend getting one. They need to be battle proven for at least a years worth of skirmishes for me to put them up to buy. There are so many guns to list and so many price differences that this post would be huge. I suggested what i know works within the price ranges given, in order of choice (CA 1st, TM 2nd, etc...)

I have a dboys AK and I love it to pieces, so not everything I say is geared at giving the more expensive guns better marks.

I am still working on a review of my A&Km249.  SO far my biggest complaint is poor shim job and very little lube, like almost none at all.  I will be having Jared at GB go over it for me and see what he says as well.

Whoa whoa whoa, I thought Echo1s were just re-branded A&Ks.  Educate me.

You are thinking of JG. Echo1 buys guns from the JG/kart factory then throws trade marks on them and a warranty.

Or is this just a rumer?
