Systema hop-up breakdown.
« on: November 09, 2005, 12:19:19 PM »
Here we go on part two of our AEG breakdown special.

I am going to go in reverse order showing how the hop up is put together from pieces and you can use the same order but in reverse to take it apart.

First behold the empty systema metal hopup chamber for M4. Now the parts on different hopup chambers are different slightly and have to be taken apart in different ways, as it is with the MP5. The general principles of a hop up will be shown here and the variations hopefully you can figure out.

Take a look at the bucking and barrel. Note that there is a little keyway grove in the bucking that matches up with the indent on the barrel. Slide the bucking on the barrel with those two matched up.

Slide the whole assembly into the hop up chamber with that little keyway toward the bottom of the hop up.

With that in you are ready to start placing the tiny bits intot he hopup. Start with placing the tiny little tube shown here in black in the notch of the white hop up over head cam and attach the spring as shown. I use a bit of vicious grease or shock oil in this case to stick it to the cam.

That little tube pushes against the bucking through the large notch in the barrel to create back spin on your exiting BB spinning it to keep it level during flight. Now place the cam and put the tiny pin in one end to keep it in(the pin can go either way, I think it goes opposite of how I show it :P ). Make sure that the spring enters into the little guide cut round for it.

You are ready to put your little gears back into place. Before you do check that the little tube on the cam is engaging the bucking by depressing it a bit to see the indent it makes into the barrel area. Now place the gears back in this sequence.

Put the one that engages the cam in first and the middle one in seccond.

Place the adjustment gear in and screw it in place.

At this point you should place the little round clip things on the ends of the posts to hold it all in place, I don't put those on becuase the gears all hold echother in place and none of them can come out because they are all in sequence with the large one. You can place themon with a screwdriver or some small prying device.

You are ready to close it up and place the little "C" clip to hold the barrel in place. I am shown taking it apart with a screwdriver, but it should go together with out prying. The sides of the clip should engage the little indents on the sides of the barrel.

Make sure that when you put it back in the body that the little spring on the guide is there above the barrel this helps the nozzel keep a good seal on the bucking and can cost you up to 30fps or more if not there.

If you have any suggestions on things you would like to see taken apart PM me and I will put them in another exciting eppisode!

On the systema hop up, Is there no little rubber peice that fits into the hop up unit?  This peice allows the reactivity of the hop up to be more sensitive, with out it on a regular hop up unit your hop up may not work properly. Dont know if systema engineered around that or not.

Oh and Great write up by the way :!:

Good Job Bro.
Just an FYI, Jeramiha and I found that on the G&Gs GR-16s they don't come with a front spring.  But when you put one in, we actually saw a decrease in FPS.

Nice, good work. Best I have seen on hop-ups and gear boxes.
