Chinese law enforcement takes down hostage taker

This is obviously one of those videos that will lead to polarized reactions. I'm sure some of you will say, it was a good, clean take down and others will question whether or not the police respected the criminal's rights.

AFAIK criminals in China have very little rights, and its obvious their law enforcement operates under different operational doctrines than do ours.

All I have to say is this, its obvious that the police negotiators were there for hours trying to get him to surrender. But since he wasn't going to see the light of reason, something had to be done to take him down.

Maybe she knew what would happen, maybe the guy knew what would happen and was using this chance to perform a suicide by cop.

I'm not sure of the details since I can't read kanji or whatever the text is.

It takes too much energy to be freaked out for so long.

If there is one thing I've learned after living ten months here in the People's Republic, it is that if you insist upon taking hostages, you should surrender quickly, before one of the highly trained black-shirt black-pants People's Armed Police crack troopers sneaks up and shoots you in the head with a pistol at extremely close range.

I saw a squad of these guys once, and they were trying to get taxis at the same corner I was trying to get a taxi, so I moved on and ended up getting rained on a bit more than I had planned.

While drunk one night, my buddy and I speculated on how they train. We thought perhaps they set a target up a foot or two away, and have to become proficient hitting it every time, one-handed.

We speculated as well that somewhere in China, gentlemen like these train by shooting targets off of telephone poles or watch-towers.

As Seedy commented the authorities and how they deal with criminals are no joke. China is now starting to experience issues domestically with Muslim extremist. In march a chick tried to ignite bomb on a China Eastern Flight to Beijing. A couple of weeks back while I was there they caught 36-43(numbers varied depending on which news agency) that had plotted to bomb the transit system, key tourist locations and select events at the olympics. Needless to say when asked about the status of "those involved in the incident" a local official commented, "once the information as to their plans has been obtained the problems will be removed."

Hi Matt!

Hey hey hey, how's it going?

I should be back in the states in about 3 weeks. Unless I get disgruntled and take hostages.

Heller was announced at 10 PM China time, just in time for fun.

ETA

I was in Hong Kong when I read about the guy on the bus being shot, and the article in the South China Morning Post said that he was taken out by a "sharpshooter."
