Get a bag that attaches to your belt and hangs there. That way you can still have something on your left theigh.

I like the lightfighter drop leg one, does anyone have a suggestion for a butt-pack style one, just to compare? Thanks! Rick

If you don't feel like getting a dedicated dump pouch, the cargo pockets on BDUs make for a fairly good field expedient dump pouch if you don't have anything covering them.
The Eagle dump pouch that silenthero linked to should be a good one. Its nice and large, much larger than it appears in any photo. I've seen (In my opinion, anyways)
TimW at Practical Tactical should be able to hook you up with one.
Just remember that you probably want something on the larger side, unless you feel like arranging the spent mags inside all the time.

When I use my Vietnam loadout I use a normal G.I. buttpack to stash my expended '16 mags in. It's a good solution because instead of banging around on your leg (especially if you're short like me) the significant mass of spent mags jiggling around is located out of the way and on your lower back. With the lid cinched down the mags slide in the side easily and don't bounce back out.

Keep in mind that you should empty your dump pouch when you get a chance to go "silent" again.

Mine has a sewn in waterproof liner that only extends a few inches into the bag, so once I slide my mags in it also helps to keep them in. Not sure about the pictured one, but I like the canvas because it holds it's shape a little better.

I would recomend not using a dump pouch if you already have a quality vest/harness/rig whatever. At OPRO I ran a dump pouch and I lost 2 mags on Saturday. I know I put the mags in my pouch and they fell out during the course of play. On sunday I put the empty mags back in my patrol vest,I didn't loose any mags on Sunday and there was alot less rattling when I was running around. I think that the time to change mags was not that much, if any slower on Sunday. An added advantage to this method is I was "heads up" for almost the whole change while with the dump pouch I would "look" the mag into the dump pouch. This is just my personal take on the whole dump pouch issue alot of people around here use dump pouches with great success.

I have a Reccegear MM Low Profile Dump Pouch on order (I've been waiting four and a half months [xx(]). In the mean time, I've just been using the left cargo pocket on my BDU pants. I have found this works as well, if not better than either of the dump pouches I have used before (I've owned both a Tactical Tailor and a Blackhawk dump pouch).
That being said, there something very cool about just dropping empty mags in the middle of a fire fight [;)]
Which dump pouch were you using Holland?

What ever happened to letting them hit the ground while you load another? Take a knee, grab a new mag out of a pouch while releasing the spent one, load it up (so you can get back in the fight) and put the spent one from the ground back in a pouch. this way, you can fire with one hand, while the support hand does the work.
But hey, that's just me. But the carge pocket works well if you don't want dusty mags. Use it in the same manner, with the pocketing replacing the dropping.

I'm thinking that the mega is the ticket, to be honest... considering I carry 10-12 mags. The standard holds 7 if you try hard... which again negates the speed advantage.
Hmmmmm Belt or drop leg, soft or fitted square bag.

Alex...are you using this as a dump pouch or a magazine holder in lieu of web gear or a tac vest, etc.? If a dump pouch, then I can't see the advantage of having this huge tick attached to your leg if you're just going to drop empties in there...unless, of course, you look at your weapon as a BB hose....

I have a harness to hold the mags when they're full. I must admit that the concept of a dump pouch isn't one I'm accustomed to... as I said before we used to toss them down our bdu blouse. Armor and current chest rigs prohibit that now, of course.
What, in your experience, is the best dump pouch setup now? Leg mounted like eagle/TT's, or the rollypolly collapsable belt mount? Or just use a SAW pouch?

I had a TT dump pouch that was leg mounted, but I liked it better hanging from my belt. The pouch I use now, I hang from my belt as well. I think the belt level is the perfect height.

Thanks Raith. I think I'll see how far one of my old SAW pouches gets me then before I drop the money on a real dumper.

Setups for dump pouches are the kind of things that you gotta try yourself. I run an SOE SMP as a drop leg (several of my teammates do, too), but my teammate Beefy hates it that way, and runs it basically as a hip pouch. I find that way, way to high to put mags in comfortably.
Eagle is really good gear. It is, however, a fairly floppy pouch, as is the Maxpedition R-P. The SOE is far more rigid than both. It'll still flexible, but holds shape better than most. In terms of which to go with, go with what appeals to you, and stick with a quality maker. If it doesn't fit your needs, trade it or sell it on Ebay and try again.

I played my first large game this past saturday with you guys, and even tho I only had 3 mags on hand, storing the used ones during a mag change became a problem. Plus I have more mags on the way, so the storage issue is only going to get worse. I have seen mag dump pouches that fit on your left leg (I have a drop leg holster on the right one) does anyone have any experience with these? I just dont want to inhibit my running ability. I was also considering using a butt pack as a mag dump pouch, does anyone know of a good butt pack that will hold mags (the one I have now doesnt close securely enough). I want to just be able to reach around and stuff the mag in and have it hold it. Let me know if you have any ideas or product reccomendations! Thanks! Rick
