I've never used one, and I don't think I've even ever seen one in person, but as far as I know, they're alright.  Not the best out there, but not the worst either.  Some SDS stuff is of questionable quality, but I've not heard anything specifically bad about the RACK.

Unless you've got a lead on a good deal, I believe it isn't very well priced compared to similar aftermarket options.  Opinions will vary, of course, but I believe that something like a Tactical Tailor MAV would be a much better deal and will hold its value better, too.

As far as the specific pouches designed with the the RACK, I don't really like them.  The dual M4 mag pouches with the shotgun shell loops on the front (Which I have seen and messed around with) are sorta goofy and I think better can be had for the same price range.

I'm not really familiar with any of the other pouches that were included in the RACK package.

The RACK platform itself will accept any PALS/MOLLE compatible (Tactical Tailor, Paraclete, Blackhawk, etc...) and if you rig it up right, many LC-2 (stuff that uses ALICE clips) can be made to work with PALS webbing.

Mainly - Unless you're fine with a replica or have a good deal on a used SDS one, I'd skip the real one in favor of something else like the aforementioned MAV.

However, like I said, I've never seen or used one, so find another source of information too.

SDS may be cheaper than Blackhawk, but they have only a 1 year warranty. BHI stuff blows out, they claim to have a lifetime warranty.  If you're stuck on a chest harness, the Blackhawk STRIKE Recon chest harness goes for about $89 (my price), but I've seen them more and seen them less.  Blackhawk's STRIKE line is actually pretty good.  Eagle supposedly will be bringing their MOLLE foundation units (vest/chest harness) to the commercial market in 3-4 months.  I'll believe it when I see it.

ALso, heads up...Camelbak is coming out with Coyote Brown Thermobaks (basic water unit) and Motherlodes.... :)

Like Matt said, unless you are getting a good deal on the SDS version, I'd go with the Guarder MOD (if you must have a RACK), or something else.  The MAV is only 50 bux, but has no bib.  For a comparable price, you can get a SOTech Hellcat loaded with Paraclete pouches on sale from DBT.

Pretty much the only reason I can see spending the 230 on the SDS RACK is if you are getting a color that isn't available in replica form.  Like Coyote Brown!  OOOOHHH!

I would imagine the Guarder MOD is of comparable quality.

Like Tim said, the STRIKE Commando chest harness is nice.  I would personally spend an extra 15 and get a Hellcat.  The Hellcat carries 6 mags without the addition of pouches.  The Commando Rig needs pouches.

Mikey had the STRIKE rig, sold it, and bought a Hellcat.  His testimony should be observed.

That said, I am torn between the Hellcat w/Paraclete pouches (about 190), the SDS RACK in Coyote (AAHHOOOOOO!) at about 230, and the Guarder MOD with a few SDS utility pouches added on (120 for the MOD, 40 or so for extra storage).

I like the RACK and will most likely go with the MOD, as it is the most cost effective.  I ain't made of money!

BTW Foxx, that link isn't for the SDS RACK.  Its for the Guarder MOD.  Note that the MOD has side-release and velcro closure on the mag pouches.  The SDS, BPG (old BHI), and other replica RACKs use simple velcro.

I guess that didn't really help any...

Yeah, but I ain't a SOTech dealer. :)

I've tried...and have had no real response from them since I started contacting them in September of last year.  I'd love to add the Hellcat to my line...

Thanks guys.  I ask because I am being offered a trade that includes an SDS Rack setup.  I already have a couple LBV solutions, so I don't really need another.  As such, I'd probably sell it, but if they aren't very good, then I need to take that into consideration.  It sounds like they are as good as most other products, but a bit overpriced for what you get.  Is this a correct conclusion?

BTW, TimW; it was nice to put a face with the name at the gunshow on Saturday.

Again, its only based on what I've read and heard, but that would be my take.

Alright.  Well, I decided to go ahead and get it.  I'll have to post some pics and a review after I receive it.

It's issued to the 1/75th Rangers.  It's gotta be pretty burly!

Okay.  I'll post my impressions/pics when I receive it.  I got a few other things with it (accessories and pouches):

>  2 SDS Canteen Pouches
>  4 SDS 100RD SAW Pouches
>  1 SDS Daypack with hydration bladder
>  4 Tactical Tailor Mag pouches
>  2 TAS mag pouches
>  1 TAS medical pouch

If I don't decide to keep it, azsarge - you will have first dibbs on it.

I'm sure I've bugged the hell out of Tim enough times that its not an issue of him not remembering so much as it is one of him trying hard to forget [:P]
