Agreed, the sniper role is not for everyone. It requires a different set of tactics and a completely different mindset than your average AEG rifleman. Most importantly it requires an innate ability to focus and aim for one crucial shot in various situations, ie., standing, sitting, kneeling, out of breath, moving targets, ect. Having a dialed in and heavily upgraded rifle is key (expect to drop $400-$700 in upgrades to compete at the highest level), but without a natural shooter on the trigger it is a wasted effort. To be a great airsoft sniper you need to be able to move effectively and stealthfully from position to position and utilize terrain and obsticles to your advantage. In order to do this you must be able to anticipate your enemy's movement, find an adventageous position to setup being mindful to minimize the visual target area you are creating. The second aspect to consider is range. It is very instrumental to a sniper's success to know the effect maximum range of his weapon vs. the effective maximum range of his opponents weapon. It is best to stay out of his effective range while keeping him in your effective range, thus if he is alerted to your position you will have a decent chance of hitting him before he is able to get a full auto spread to hit you. It comes down to a numbers game with percentages. Knowing your range is key! Beyond this it is up to tactical instincts and shooting ability. Let face it, some people are better than others at target shooting than others as well as anticipating wind and BB drop rates.
