General Off-Topic Discussion / Rules of the Road
« on: July 18, 2010, 02:12:41 PM »
I got into a minor fender bender yesterday, no big damage on the other guy's car (his bumper fell off) and all I have to do is get my passenger side door's replaced.

It happened at an intersection, I got into the left turn lane while the light was green and I let the guy in front of me go ahead, I eased into the intersection then it turned yellow but the flow of traffic from the opposing lanes was still pretty heavy, so I waited until the light turn red and started to make the turn when I saw that the opposing lanes of traffic ceased movement. The guy in the other car told me that he was not going to make a right turn, but drive straight through the intersection. He had to pump the brakes pretty hard to stop, but we still collided.

I know that because of ARS 28-772 that I was already to blame, even if the guy was technically running the red light.

My question is though, according to the rules and laws of Arizona, am I supposed to ease into the intersection when I need to make a left turn and yield for traffic coming in the opposite direction and only turn when it looks clear? Or am I supposed to wait behind the crosswalk for all traffic in the opposing lane to stop before I turn? I'm not able to find any solid documentation on how I'm supposed to do this. Some people I talk to say stay behind the crosswalk, but the reality seems to be that in heavy traffic the lights will go red for both the people in the opposite lane and for those making a left turn, if I initiated a left turn from behind the crosswalk on a red light isn't that technically running a red light?

Accessories & Gear / Buying the Cavalvy Elite II headset in the U.S.
« on: March 20, 2009, 02:49:50 PM »
I've already done a google search to see if any U.S. stores have it, but so far nothing. The only option for me at this point is to buy them on eBay. I don't have a problem with doing that, but I would rather get them quicker from a U.S. retailer.

General Off-Topic Discussion / Is any of this real?

Those Ragnar Benson books, if real, sound like the most dangerous thing on that list.

I just dug out one of my older camelbaks and ugh there are large splotches of mildew all over the inside. I used the one cleaning tablet I had but it doesn't look like it will be enough. I think Shooter's World used to carry a lot of Camelbak stuff, but the last time I went I didn't see as much as I'd hoped.

Would some place like Sportsman's Warehouse or Cabella's have the full line of cleaning accessories?

About 6 months ago, we hired a new student employee. At first he was ok, I got along with him and tried to teach him everything I knew. 6 months later, he is still making stupid rookie mistakes, I'll spare you all the details and say this, he cannot do tasks befitting of his position without extensive supervision. He literally cannot be left alone to do tasks that people who have been here half as long are doing on a regular basis on their own. For some reason he is not retaining any information we tell him, it is pretty much in one ear and out the other. He is used to being rewarded for his failure, he expects everyone else to pick up the slack if he fucks up and he whines and makes excuses instead of presenting solutions for the problem.

As some of you know I sprained my ankle at Balkan Hammer II this weekend, so I took Monday and Tuesday off to recuperate. Anyway I come back and I see that this sad excuse for a worker fucked up four new hire computers. I spent nearly 3 hours undoing the damage he did, 3 hours that I wouldn't need to waste if it was done right in the first place. Then when I approach him about it today, he gives me attitude like I was in the wrong, this shithead literally refuses to take responsibility for what he did, for something that he should know how to do. He cuts me off in mid speech and I pretty much tell him to shut the fuck up and never interrupt me when I am speaking, not ever again. I felt angry enough to reach across the desk and slap the stupid out of him, it took a lot of self restraint to hold it back. Honestly though he has it coming, and I honestly think it would be good for him, it would teach him that his bullshit attitude and pass the buck mentality will not be tolerated. I'm not in a position to fire him, but his shitty behavior is definitely getting reported, and his borderline insubordination is going to be the highlight. If he doesn't get outright fired or demoted, I'll at least make sure he doesn't touch anything in my department ever again.

AEG's / Using a Li-Poly battery in a CA 249
« on: November 13, 2008, 12:05:34 PM »
I was thinking about purchasing an 11.1V 5300mAh Li-Po pack for use in my CA 249. However, after Balkan Hammer II, I've come up with a few concerns, chief among them is how near freezing temperatures will affect a Li-Po battery pack. I used a pair of 8.4v 4500mAH battery packs over the two days of fighting. My first pack seemed ok for most of Saturday, then towards the afternoon it started to sputter, like it was running dry. However, when I returned to the barracks and charged it up, I had only used up maybe 1000-1500mAh.

My other concern is from when I first bought the CA 249, I was told back then (in 2006) that I should only use 8.4v battery packs, since a 9.6v battery pack would pretty much cause my gears to shred. Is this still the case today, or would I be able to mitigate this by using newer gearsets in tandem with a MOSFET?

General Airsoft Discussion / Operation Parts

Operation Parts

Has anyone purchased anything from them before? They look like they have a good selection of gear and AR parts. The only problem I see is that they have a small stock of each item.

I came across this site when looking for CIRAS reviews and they have the lowest price for a real CIRAS that I have seen. However, I already purchased mine from SKDTac.com (since they are having a moving sale) for about $413.

Accessories & Gear / Troubleshooting my battery charger
« on: September 09, 2008, 08:49:28 PM »
I'm currently using an MRC Super Brain 977 Pro and recently all the batteries I've tried to charge seem to charge, but once I connect them to any of my airsoft guns they simply click when I pull the trigger. Its not even enough to pull the spring back for one complete cycle. I've been looking up reviews for my charger and things don't look good, apparently these units tend to give out due to a lack of a fuse in the power supply. However in my case the unit still powers on and charges, but the end result is the same, none of my batteries charged with that unit can pull a spring on any of my airsoft guns.

I've already purchased a new battery and tried to charge it, the result is the same. I'm having a friend bring his MRC Super Brain 969 Pro, its still working and I'm planning to charge my batteries on his charger and try to charge his batteries on mine. If anyone has any recommendations on troubleshooting this unit I am open to it. I am also open to any recommendations for other chargers. In my brief google search, the Triton II Digital Peak Charger came up as a superior charger, at least to the RC crowd.

General Off-Topic Discussion / Wireless cameras
« on: September 06, 2008, 10:12:24 PM »
I was thinking about installing wireless cameras on the interior of my car and using the car battery as a power source. I'm doing this to try to catch the jerk offs who keep running around my apartment complex vandalizing cars and other property. Ever since they broke my car window, they've started to break all the lights in the covered parking area, they did this during the last big storm to cover their tracks.

Here are the pics from this weekend's game.

All I have to say is being a cameraman seemed a bit more hazardous this time than usual. It has been suggested that we wear cups for the next outing.

^Needs more protection.

^Once bitten, twice shy.

^Mikey, how's that clip coming along? Sam and Cliff told me about the little reenactment they were doing down on the road.

AEG's / CA 249 stock?
« on: July 17, 2008, 12:04:51 PM »

Has anyone come out with an airsoft version of that stock? If I had one I know it'd make wielding my CA 249 a bit more easier.

Real Firearms / Shotgun strictly for home defense
« on: June 28, 2008, 09:06:20 AM »
Well if you guys were wondering why I didn't show up to the BAS game this morning, it was because someone broke into my car and left glass all over the place. I spent the whole morning filing a police report, scheduling an appointment to have the glass replaced, and calling my insurance company to file a claim. Not to mention having to patch the window with tape and cardboard, then cleaning out the glass all over the upholstery.

Apparently last night there was a fireworks show, and it was setting off everyone's alarm. I went to bed early that night and was deep asleep by the time the fireworks were going off. I figure that's when the assholes decided to hit my car. I also noticed that they did the same thing to one of my neighbor's cars, except they took out a bigger window. (Mine was the triangle shaped piece on the rear passenger side door). Supposedly the complex has a security guard patrolling at night, but apparently he seemed to miss the fact that multiple cars got broken into that night. I was already burned once by them when they busted a bunch of kids smoking pot in their apartment, however, the guy didn't put down the apartment number when he was filling out his report and noticed it at the end of his shift. He tried to remember which one it was, but ultimately just ended up guessing and he guessed my apartment number. Long story short, I spent a month fighting the management people until they finally got the security guard in to verify which apartment he had actually busted.

Needless to say I am not going to entrust my security to a bunch of incompetent, shithead rentacops who wouldn't give a rat's ass about the people they're paid to protect.

This neighborhood in general seems to be going to hell in a hand basket, since I see/hear the police choppers hovering more times this year than I have in previous years.

I was thinking about a Mossberg 590, but I will defer to this board's expertise on what kind of shotgun I should use for home defense.

Chinese law enforcement takes down hostage taker

This is obviously one of those videos that will lead to polarized reactions. I'm sure some of you will say, it was a good, clean take down and others will question whether or not the police respected the criminal's rights.

AFAIK criminals in China have very little rights, and its obvious their law enforcement operates under different operational doctrines than do ours.

All I have to say is this, its obvious that the police negotiators were there for hours trying to get him to surrender. But since he wasn't going to see the light of reason, something had to be done to take him down.
