Attempted Car Jacking
« on: July 25, 2006, 10:34:52 PM »
No, it was not me

But my coworkers wife was working at a donation store, they sell donated items and the proceeds go to the battered women fund. Anyways her boss was confronted as she got out of her car in front of the store by 5 men, 3 carrying an AK variant.  They were wearing shorts, t-shirts and bandanas, like a bunch of desperados. My coworkers wife was inside the store, saw what was happening and called 911 and her husband. My coworker dropped what he was doing and rushed over there as he was close by. They had fled by the time he got there as the police arrived.

What was scary was that this was on a major road, Yuma, where she was parking her car on the side street parking zone.  This store is also 300ft from the Police Station, which tells me that these guys were definately from out of town   They were caught about 10 mins later at a nearby park, right next to an elementry school. I think they were having a hard time concealing their AK's  and an officer called in for backup
This may be gang related as they were flashing signs when they were trying to car jack the car.

At first I thought, oh no, they probally used some cheap airsoft guns. But minutes after they were caught, I learned that they were indeed real Ak's and were fully loaded. Don't know if they had them chambered or not though, but goes to show that anything can happen anywhere.

Oh, man.

As soon as I saw this thread I thought : "Ryan, you're retiring from driving now. Two incidents in two weeks, you are done."

Good to know that everything is OK though.

Good thing no one was hurt, and the guys were caught.  And if there is anything i have learned while living here in Phoenix, it is to expect the unexpected...  the world is a crazy place...

Quick update, found out that the guys were high on Meth too.  A police officer said that, they (the bad guys) were lucky, because if anyone of them even attempted to point their gun towards them they were going to shoot and take all 5 of them down. No messing around, but they were smart and placed their guns down and got on the ground.

Also found out that the driver of the car was not fully parked yet as they approached her car, so she floored it out of there. Officer said she was lucky cause the one guy was right at her window with the AK aiming at the widow, he could have easily pulled the trigger.

Glad it wasn't me, i'd of likely tried to call their bluff on actually having airsoft guns and ended up eating at the lead buffet.

What kind of car was it?  Something exotic or a run of the mill car?

Good question, I will find out.  But I can't imagine that it was anything exotic.

Something like that happend a few weeks ago down here in Tucson.

A family was sitting on their front porch when two vehicles, a SUV and late model PU, pulled up.  5 guys wearing masks, body armor and carrying automatic weapons jumped out.  About half way up the sidewalk, they stopped, looked at each other, turned around and hurried back to their vehicles to speed off.

Wrong house I gues......

Not unless it is a Pre-1986 registered NFA weapon.

I think it was drug related.  We have a lot of home invasions...rival gangs looking for drugs.  Hitting stash houses, etc............

Yeah, that's crazy!  Lately, i've been hearing about how bad drugs, especially Meth and Cocaine are polluting the city of Tucson.  In fact, a friend of mine was pulled over and was going to get cited, but since he was honest to the policeman, he let him go asking him if he knew of any Meth users or dealers in the area, cuz that's what they really wanted...
