Battery Chargers
« on: March 23, 2005, 06:09:22 AM »
I need an opinion on what battery charger I should buy, I have 9.6 1400mAh Nicad batterys.
I don't want to spend too much, so I don't think I'll be needing a quick charger, but how long does it usualy take for the slower ones?

EDIT: I found a quick charger for $30, what do you guys think?

Go to an R/C hobby shop and ask around.  Those guys use the same packs in their R/C cars and trucks that we do.  Check out a few chargers and pick one you like.

If you're using NiCad packs, you will need a discharger.  Buying a charger with a built-in discharger is a good idea, since you can cycle the packs for longer life.  I use the Duratrax Intellipeak Pulse Charger, and my packs are always cookin'!

You said you don't want to spend much, then you aren't going to get much.  Throw down the extra dough, and get one that will last you throughout your airsoft days!  Why buy a cheap one now, then have to replace it later?

I've always warned againts using QUICK chargers as you don't get a full deep charge on your battery pack.  Use a regular wall charger of around 300mah output and charge your battery properly and it will last you all day long.

I always slow charge my packs before big games.  You WILL notice a difference between a charge from a quick charger and a slow charger.

For a nice deep charge, use the slow charge feature of the Intellipeak.

For a quicker charge, but still pretty slow, use the lowest setting on the dial (500 mA).
