I will take an XM8, although it's critisized by many, It has a flawless design. There is an awesome article from last months issue of American Rifleman. You can beat the hell out of an XM8(yes more so than any AK)and it will rock out like no other. They completely submerged it in mud and fired it... I think the maintenance was something like every 80k rounds...

One of the best features of the XM8 is the recessed. self-leveling piccatinny system. Once you zero something, even when taken off it will stay zero'd perfectly as long as it is put back on the same point (S).

no. i wont even condone that! that gun was a piece of crap, my great grandfather served in ww1 and he thought it was a piece of crap. open magazine. why in the hell would you use and open magazine in a muddy enviornment? those things were so crappy in real life you couldnt interchange the parts from one rifle to the other. i respect the fact he sees it as a historical piece but that gun is a travesty.

You did hear that it is on hold because of overheating issues?  It does everything well on paper....but MELTS in the real world.  Yeah...great rifle...

Lots of weapons have had those problems, doesn't mean its not a great weapon. I talked to two people, one was a Major, and the other was a Sergeant, and both worked in an armory. They said it is the sweetest weapon they have ever used, reguardless of problems. The only problem with anything now...is everyone finds flaws in it. So we make something new...that has a flaw in it too. Oh...it sucks, lets make something new...which ALSO has a problem. Its IMPOSSIBLE to have the perfect rifle.

Well, even an acceptable rifle wouldnt melt in my hands.  Maybe thats just me.  

If its so excellent, why arent they being ordered? I dont see it doing anything much better than the M4, at least not enough to justify a complete change over of gear and training.  

Oh yeah...and IT MELTS.

Its not like you fire one round, and it disintegrates in your hand, melting to your skin or anything like that. I haven't heard about this problem yet, but how many rounds does it take to melt the firearm?

I can't see it melting...Unless fed 50k rounds nonstop or something rediculous...But then again, have you ever seen a LMG after a few hundred rounds?
