Why is it that so many of you do not put your names and ages in your BIO? It helps the rest of us to know who we're talking to and gives us a little more insight other than just having a handle to deal with. Please fill out your BIO's if you haven't done so already.
-
Well I dont see anyplace for names anymore...or the "a little about myself" space...
-
Damn Busta, you got me. Hey Paco, what happened to the BIO info fields?
-
I think they got lost in the forum upgrade.
-
Harley
Maybe it's just my law enforcement background talking, or even my normal state of paranoia. But ain't it a little SKETCHY to post your name and DOB in an internet forum?
I'd put the toe of my boot in one of my kid's butts if they did that.
Not to mention that I know adults who have been thoroughly screwed over via idenity theft.

True, but a first name wouldn't hurt, and we can forgoe the dob and just post an age instead. It's just nice to know who and what we're dealing with.
Now are you trying to start a home coming argument with me. ;)
-
For that reason, I chose to leave out the person's name... if they are an AA member, then we already have their name in a secure and private database. I thought it would be more useful to have the age feature here since it wasn't the best idea to have both, as lead pointed out, for privacy reasons (since the profiles are public). I do need to add a few more fields to the profiles though, for people to put in a little bio, message, guns, etc. I hope to get to that soon, but I haven't had much room to breathe at work lately.
-
Sounds good Paco, I like having the armory field..Thatd be cool.
-

I hope you don't mean this one...
http://airsoftarizona.com/membership/am ... member.asp (http://airsoftarizona.com/membership/am_I_an_aa_member.asp)
I found it doing a Google Search of the exact phrase "Aaron Shoults" (my name). It contains the real names and usernames of most members and is accessible even when I am not logged in (I double checked it with another computer).
-
That needs to be taken care of ASAP!
-
Yeah...Im glad im not on that list! So when you gonna catch a game sarge?
-
i dont think that is the list. That is just a list of actual AA members. The list paco is talking about is the list of EVERYONE who posts on this board.
-

Yeah, that's the ONLY list that matters! If you're not on that list, you're not cool. If you not on that list, you are a KID! That's all there is to it! 8)

bah. all i hear is blah blah blah. Okay...i'm crying on the inside ;).

I beg to differ (see bold sections below).

The server is pulling a listing of current AirsoftArizona lifetime members sorted alphabetically by last name (give it a minute, there are a lot of members to pull from the database). If you do not see your name in the list below, we do not have you on record as an AirsoftArizona member.
-
No, that's not the list I was referring to. That list has been there since the inception of AA, and has always been publicly available.
-
Paco Id like for it to be where theres 20 posts per page again..That was nice..This 14 posts a page or 15 is kinda stupid. Just my 2cents.
-
Now are you trying to start a home coming argument with me. ;)
I noticed that you hadn't been posting, but you've been gone? Where'd ya go, bro?
Oh come on guys. I donated fifty bucks for cold burn, heh, in a way. Well, I couldn't make it. Evil Knievel adventure took me out of commission. Can't ya make me a member (but without putting me on the list)?!!! You know I'm Arizona Airsoft at heart. Even though I'm a few hundred miles away.

Ahh, I stand corrected. Why is it public? If some members are concerned about their names being on the internet then why have a public list containing them?

ROFLMAO! Why was this a non-issue for over 4 years, and all of a sudden it's a huge "security/privacy concern"?! I mean, there was even a lot of pressure by other forum members (in the old forums) to enter all your legit info into your forum profile so everyone could see. If anything, things have been IMPROVED in the sense of privacy.
Sorry, I just find this "all of a sudden" stuff amusing. #-o
-
I personally don't think it is a big deal at all. I don't even believe that having a real name on the internet is that much of a security concern. I was just wondering why one list would be public and one would be private if they both contain real names. Unless they contain substantially different data then it defeats the purpose (to an extent) of making one private. I guess I should just trust that it was done this way for a reason.
-
The private one contains all the info that users are required to provide when they join AA and pay their lifetime membership fee.

That's why us old school Megaforce troopers gave our MF Alias!
Only total n00bs have their real name on the AA roster.
Paco's right though. Old news.
-
Shhhhhh, don't tell them about the Megaforce secret hand shake.

So you think people shouldn't have a problem with their names, DOB, and town info being made available publicly as a result of these AA site profiles?

If you read my post lead, you would see that I find it humorous that this hasn't been an issue for over 4 years when even MORE info was available because people had the option to put MORE personal info into their old profiles than they do now. ALl of a sudden, it is. :-s
-
you guys ever do a search of your user name on the net, try it you already been tag and bagged there my friend
-
Amusingly enough my name doesn't bring up anything about me. My handle (ChayoteMu) does though.
-

That actual net term for that is "Ego Surfing" but he's right, I checked mine and nothing... besides you can get information from the county recorders office that has a lot more detail than what you list in your BIO
-
I did a search for my real name and came up with one thing! It was my speedskating score from a competition in CA!!!! LOL! :D

I'm going down in google rankings... I used to be 90% of the results for my name. Here's a couple of pictures from google that claim to be me:

Yes, Paco. I understand from your post that you find the situation humorous. But are you also ambivalent on the matter?

I didn't know you were in a band, Greg.

Lead, I think you uderstand EXACTLY my non-stated rhetorical question. Perhaps you don't, I don't know. Do you need me to ask you directly?

Paco, no, really. No offense, but I don’t get it. It seems that you are attributing to me some kind of ulterior motive behind my question. There was none. Maybe I’m just dense when it comes to “non-stated rhetorical questionsâ€, but I don’t understand what you are trying (or not trying) to say. Lol.
But please, yeah, ask me directly so I understand what the heck you’re getting at.

Sure: Why wasn't this an issue 6 months ago?
(This was originally not directed at anyone in particular - just a general question to all who are now "complaining" about "security", I just directed the reposonse to Lead because he was talking to me directly in the replies - but it still goes for everyone)

I can only answer for myself, of course, but I hadn't posted my actual birth date and real name in the public profile in the first place. I didn't realize that some folks here seem to consider it mandatory until recently. Furthermore, I was unaware that any information I may provide about myself in the course of registration with Arizona Airsoft as a player or site member would be made public via the forum.
Ya know, I'm not trying to browbeat you, Paco. I'm just concerned about the availabilty of some of this personal data.

You mean you're not really 100??? And all this time I've been telling everybody old people play airsoft too....
I can understand if somebody wants to move their birthday BACK a month to make themselves a month younger if they were worried about security... but to say you are 100... doesn't leave a whole lota trust about people being honest, one of the most important aspects of airsoft. There are lots of people that change their age, don't feel like I'm buggn' on you. :D

I see you cut your hair since you left the band, Greg....

Well, I must say. I'm quite glad that you've come clean with the fact that you are a male Stripper who engages in binge drinking. Cough, cough.
Not that I'm trying to bug you or anything.

Point taken! :D (But the binge drinking is true!) I shouldn't be casting any stones!
