what to do?
« on: July 20, 2012, 08:32:48 PM »
Ok, so I currently only own a Tri shot Shotgun. I need an AEG, but have no job. I need your opinions on what I should save for once I get a job. What are the informed recommendations of AA?

My requirements:
not looking to spend more than $200 unless it's totally worth it
I personally love M4s and G36s the most, but am open to other "interesting" guns
I usually pull a gunner role
Some rails are nice (for lights mostly)

Grab a G36c, my first gun, and loved it. Add a Tbb, better bucking, and spacer. You'll be good to go with those minor upgrades.

Or buy a TM gun and it'll never need any upgrades except for a spring if you are FPS obsessed. But to be honest, a bone stock TM gun will last you the rest of your life and even at stock FPS will be competitive with guns shooting higher fps.

Spend more on it ahead of time, and you won't regret it. Or buy one used from a reputable person.

My first aeg was a TM mp5sd6 and to this day I regret selling it.

Also, buy guns with mags that fit in gear in a way you like, can deal with, and afford. I hate having to find weird gear to fit odd shaped magazines (g36, sigs, p90, UMP, etc). Look at the price of the average P90 or G36 specific mag pouch compared with an M4 pouch. Ouch.

Mp5 or M4 variant is my vote.

I still play with a ICS that I bought used over seven years ago. Get ICS or a TM and you can't go wrong. I see Mp5's here for as little as 50 bucks.

yeah buy a tm if you want to spend a shit load on a gun that needs pretty much everything replaced.

Ull buy the tm use it 3 or 4 times and want a better gun, like everyone el's that has bought a TM in the last 5 years.

For under 200 look for an echo1, or cyma Iv personally seen them out last/ trump alot of marui's on the field. especially in stock form

It will save you money in the end when you want more than 300 fps.

then you dont have to replace...  bushings, piston, Piston head, spring, spring guide, cylinder head, gears, and probably the gear box shell, when you do upgrade it.oh yeah and dont forget about the amazing plastic external body's TM has

But hey at least you will get a good hop-up out of it right?

Yeah if it was 5 or 6 years ago i'd say marui too. But unfortunately there pretty much outdated now

I believe it was Ron that gave me this little piece of advice, "Airsoft guns are built to break" and you can ask so many airsofters that have been playing for a while and I guarantee 8/10 will agree.

I would go with a Combat Machine M4. They are fantastic stock guns for cheap and it is easy to upgrade.

KWA CQR with the 14.5" barrel.  In my opinion, the 2GX gearbox is one of the best, most solid gearboxes out there if you don't want to have to upgrade the internals for awhile.  CYMA AK's are also weirdly reliable, especially since they switched the design to the VFC layout.

If you buy a Tokyo Marui, just make sure to keep the gearbox closed, or the magical reliability fairies will fly away.  True story.

Echo 1 makes decent AEGs for under or around $200. Several different models of M4s and G36s available, many with rails and that sort of thing. G&G Combat Machines are decent starter AEGs as well, and those are closer to the $150 range.

You havent used their new guns then. The new Scar for instance, has the best air seal on a gun Ive ever seen. Zero leaks to fix, and with only an M100 spring it was too hot for lion claws games, we had to cut off 1/2" off the spring.

Metal bushings, spring guides, etc are all stock now. And their gen 2 guns use cnc metal where metal is on the real steel.

As Ron once told me, TM guns are designed for a player who wants to go out every single weekend and shoot all day long, and never have to touch his gearbox for the next 5 years.

I have my old P90 that after roughly 400,000 rounds through it, 6 Lionclaw Events, and 8 years of airsofting in Arizona, still shoots like the day it was bought, and has NEVER had its gearbox opened up, not to re-shim it, not to lube it, nothing.

Based on the quality of the parts in the new Scar that I have used and torn down, and its performance at the last Lionclaws, I still maintain that fact. It's the highest quality stock AEG I've ever handled.

Personally, I would say go for a KWA CQR http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?products_id=10378.

They are very very good, especially for the price. The gearbox is top notch, and it's by KWA, one of the best manufacturers.
How 'bout we all just... Don't be dicks to each other?

In case the g36c is still an option

http://www.evike.com/product_info.php?products_id=27598

JG MK36C - I recommend this rifle to anyone. It is incredibly upgrade friendly, it is reliable, sturdy, constant and just a beautiful weapon to look at. When i opened up my gearbox for the first time i was surprised to find that the gearbox was already a very solid and good build. Perfect for both CQB and normal outdoor runs. It should top your requirements at ease. Attachments are easy to put on. Rails can be purchased just about everywhere. And because it is evike you can always get coupon codes which should trim this rifle's price down considerably.
People ask me how to find me, i respond by telling them to look for the guy with the bugle.

If you wanted to be real ghetto fabulous about it, you could pick up a home-made hi-cap for your tri-shot. This one sold for $20. You won't have the range of an AEG, but you can hold your own in the mid-range and closer.
