Funny, I was about to make a post about this.  ;D

I will be there along with a few other friends. We will be dressed business casual and will be open carrying "assault" weapons and handguns.

There is a facebook event as well: https://www.facebook.com/events/146325982185364/

Pleh. A bunch of guys dressed up in their tea party finest, looking to be THAT ONE GUY on the evening news.
 Do something? write your Congressman.

I'm not a fan of the Tea Party thank you very much.
Writing a letter only gets you a generic response from a desk assistant. A rally gets noticed....

Soooooo... You're gonna look like the crew from Heat in the shoot out scene?

Got to agree with Chip. The rally isn't going to change anything and carrying what the media will report as "machine assault 500mm caliber weapons with extended heat seeking clips" is certainly not going to help anything. As much as I love guns, it seems silly to think rallies will get nothing but negative attention.

Open carrying assault rifles is illegal in some terms because of patriot act, amongst other things.

18 USC § 2331.5: the term “domestic terrorism” means activities that—
(A) involve acts dangerous to human life that are a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any State;
(B) appear to be intended—
(i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population;
(ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion;

They have and do selectively consider open carry of assault rifles or weapons at demonstrations acts of terrorism. You've been warned.

I was at the last 2 2nd amendment rally's you guys are blowing this out of proportion. These 2nd amendment rally's are probably the most peaceful rally's the state has seen in a long time. That said 99.9% of the time its not an assault rifle. Assault rifles/ Assault weapons were banned in 1986. The weapons in question now  are being called something that has already been banned as a media/ political scare tactic.

All it takes is one A.D, and every gun in the place will get confiscated. Meagan's Law is a felony, too.
This crap has Bad Idea written all over it.
One more thing; for cryin' out loud, DO NOT bring any airsoft gun or mention airsoft to ANYONE there. Nothing good will come of this...

Actually, I'm really interested to see an example of when this happened. Only one that spring to mind is the (in)famous example of the guy that protested Obama when he was in Phoenix a couple of years back (and the media BS that ensued). Links?

Hahaha. I'll make sure to carry with a round in the chamber and the safety off just for you guys.  ;)
This isn't the first 2A rally that's happened but thanks for all of the advice.

Also you mean a negligent discharge? No such thing as an accidental discharge.

FlyingTrumpet, I'm also going to be there, dressed in a suit with a red tie, open carrying an AR-15 and Glock 19.

Guess what, son? There already was one, and nothing bad came of it. Hell, I got on Reuters and Yahoo.
Just because you can't maintain trigger discipline on your airsoft gun doesn't mean we're all going to be standing there with our fingers on the triggers of our actual firearms, or even have our weapons in our hands for that matter. Ever heard of a holster or a sling?

You clearly have no idea how the law works, do you boy? I open carry my Glock 19 every single day, everywhere I go. Not once have the police been called on me, because most people in AZ aren't idiots who consider open carry of a firearm to be "terrorism". I open carried my AR-15 and G19 on the Phoenix metro light rail on the way back from the last rally and there was no involvement with law enforcement. Hell, the only law enforcement present at the last rally were the capitol police who are always there. Educate yourself before posting fear-mongering BS like that.

Well Boobie, it's your asses, not mine. One point though.
Unless you're about 86 years old, I'd knock off the "son" stuff, just sayin'.
Now, go forth and make fools of yourselves.

You come over to my rocking chair and say that to my face!
But seriously, we got nothing but positive/neutral coverage last time, and damn near everybody was armed.
And hey, how could a guy like this make a fool of himself?  http://i.imgur.com/bgbZVXJ.jpg

Hardly a boy, though perhaps in proclivity, as I spend a lot of my free time playing video games and airsoft. I was medically discharged from the Army with 4 herniated discs and 2 fused lower vertebrae in my spine, and subsequently worked 5 years in law enforcement.

A rally like this is actually a good thing. I would say something like 80% of Americans are anti gun control. Just like how most Americans aren't in favor of the crazy liberal road we asva country are rolling down. Unfortunately we are the silent majority that let's idiots like Nancy Pelosi have their way. Good to see people are finally starting to voice their opinions, instead of letting the hippies speak for them.

This.

The point I wanted to make (but decided that posting something like that on AA was moot) was that the Tea Party started as a majority protest against Universal Healthcare and the threat of increased taxes by your average working citizen spontaneously showing up at townhall meetings with their elected representatives.

I'll side with the Tea Party and those that defend our freedoms over the occupy crowd any day of the week.

I guess I should have rephrased my initial post then. I don't like associating with the Tea Party for all of the negative rep they get and the fact that they seem to have been taken over by radical conservatives.
It's tough being a Libertarian, Liberals and Conservatives hate us.
Shadow, I never read your original response before you edited it. Sgun480 I agree.

He never edited it, silly goose (or the system says).

Honestly, I don't know what a rally with people toting around their guns really accomplishes. The people that are able to think for themselves will know that guns are tools and don't do anything without people acting upon them will still know that. The piss pants crowd will still go "OMG, assault weapons! How did anyone survive?!"

Rally's (o any political movement is about changing minds. How do you propose to do that?

there was about 1000 people. you guys got to realize these types of rally's are no where near the same as the ones ran by the occupy group, immigration rally's or the liberal rally's. Conservative rally's are allays peaceful, the biggest thing that happened was the quadroater drone fly by ( yes this really happened)

Never once was Obama's name brought up at the rally. I find that funny.

NPR and KTAR didn't say anything, so that was all the news I got for most of yesterday. Seems typical of valley media.

Well, when you don't put ads on Craigslist offering minimum wage and lunch to attend rallies, it's kinda hard to get people out. Hopefully you had your tinfoil hat on. The flash from the drone's camera will glare out the whole image.  ;)

I think you have this rally mixed up with the wrong type of people. I didn't see a single non leave headed person there. Those tinfoil hat types don't show up to rally s, they are too afraid of being seen. I honestly think that quadracopter was just someones personal rc, you can buy them at any rc store.

Rally was awesome. Met some nice people. Saw some guys from AA. Couldn't really hear the speakers, apparently the people bringing the stage and sound equipment flaked out last minute.....

Yeah the "drone" was a personal RC plane. He got some cool photos actually. http://arizonashooting.com/v3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=170282&start=180

But seriously, this was my first rally and for the most part people were respectful and great to talk to. It was awesome.
