General Off-Topic Discussion / Re: What do you guys do for a living?

Thanks Mad Sarge.  It was a lot of work, and I learned a lot about making a film.  I have been tempted to post  director's cut that explained the various efforts incorporated in the movie, by scene.

Sigma, For some reason (music licensing perhaps?), the film can not be view via mobile device. But, It is HD and looks spiffy on a computer.

Toast, I am shooting on a Cannon Rebel (some Countour HD cam footage too) and special effects are done in Adobe After Effects with most of that material supplied by Video CoPilot's Action Essential 2 pack.  The editing was done via premier Pro.

Thanks for the feedback.  We are tempted to try a second film.

No one has feedback on the film?

A zero-budget amateur short starring our local airsoft team, Knight Watch. My wife and I have no training in movie making, and our cast was only 6 strong. This is our first formal attempt at a film. We are highly aware of all the shortcomings but wanted to share what we consider an achievement.

My wife, an avid airsofter, has opened her own ETSY shop, specializing in game high quality game terrain.  For any gamers out there, check out the shop. She makes special orders and can design custom pieces.

Informational Links / Re: Team screener December 27th.

There are definite benefits to assemble a team with a heavy slant towards real combat experience.  While many of the technical dynamics of real combat are vastly different in airsoft, having tactically experienced players grants you many benefits:
1. The players KNOW the value of communication. That's a hard one for johnnie civilian to grasp, it seems.
2. The are probably competent at shooting and moving within a unit.
3. They probably are proficient in small team movement, and battle drills (react to contact, ambush, assault, raid).
4. They have a set of values that the Armed Forces enforce - Integrity being a good start for airsoft.
5. The war stories alone make their company much more interesting than corporate Joe.

Very few civilians seem to understand the concept of "Work hard - play harder".

I agree with Trent. Those are very selective criteria, but I applauded having high standards. If I was closer to OP's TOC, I'd join. Charlie Mike.

Archer,

I am not aware of any games being organized in and around Sierra Vista over the Thanksgiving weekend.  Sorry we could not accommodate you.

I was attempting the illusion that the team enters too fast for the 6 tangos to respond  Perhaps I should make it 'slow motion'.

*** EDIT ***  I further edited the clip and reduced the whole footage by 2 seconds and there is no evidence of bad guys just standing around now.  Thanks for the feedback. You helped make the film better.

Another small teaser from the upcoming film, renamed : OP Crystal Sword.

There is a room clearing technique called "room domination" and it has operators grab territory in the middle. Seemed appropriate for a hostage situation where the 'package" is already in the middle.

The finished film is by no means a exercise in tactical doctrine, but more of a projection of the male action adventure fantasy.  I never knew making a movie is so time intensive. It takes me 8 hours to do post-production on a 20 second clip.

I'll post the link as soon as I'm finished.

Excellent response.

I am severely disappointed in all the people who took up "free" slots for a game by RSVPing and failing to show up. Its rude, inconsiderate and selfish.  It affected not only the game, but the organizers ability to provide an experience worthy of their time. It also affected the experience of all the people who drove as many as 4 hours to participate.  So, for all you no-shows: #$%^ you.

The game well organized, even when plans had to be modified on the fly.  I enjoyed playing with (and against) many of the players that I have meet previously.  It is the people that make airsoft events successful.  Thanks to all that made this a fun time for me and the Sierra Vista Airsoft players.

We hope to see you all against soon.

General Airsoft Discussion / Re: Why I love and hate Milsim.
« on: October 28, 2013, 11:48:31 AM »
Sordin,

I agree with your assessment and I am of the same mind as Mad Sarge.

Having been downrange, I can attest that the real steel version of war is not fun at all. But, like Mad Sarge, I enjoy the team work, objective based missions of a quality MilSim event.  Some of the past Knight Watch Productions tried to emphasize a more immersive dynamic.  I had a recon team high crawl over 300 yards just to get "eyes on" the enemies command bunker. That was their whole game!

Knight Watch Productions has a motto when designing MilSim games - "If you're not miseable, it's not MilSim."

I have an article written that describes the various styles of airsoft play, and the people that participate on different levels.  I see evidence of the spectrum here in this thread.  If anyone wants, I'll publish it.
