G2 preassure plate
« on: April 25, 2007, 09:10:38 PM »
I cant find one for the life of me. I can find plenty for the other weapon lights, but none for the G2 specifically. if i can find one, is it worth getting?

They sell one manufactured by Pelican at Arizona Tactical.

It's worth getting if you want pressure activation for a G2.

Well, it's as versatile as the threads it's threaded for. It'll fit anything with threads compatible with a G2/6P/Pelican M6/etc.

G2s/6Ps are ok for airsoft.

How much night gaming do you REALLY do?

So, probably don't buy a more expensive light...anything above a 6P in terms of functionality gets exponentially more expensive.

I have the G2 on my PS90 (real steel) got the LED on order for it.  Would love a pressure plate for it too.

Surefire considers 65 lumens to be acceptable for a weaponlight, but your own mileage may vary.  A G2 using a P61 bulb will give you that 120 lumens, but only for 20 minutes.

A G2 w/P61 can probably survive the recoil of an AR15 for some time, but it can't hurt to use a Z32 Shock Isolated Bezel either.  You'll spend less on the shock isolation than you would on a replacement bulb.

Depending on your mounting system, the tailcap switch can be just as useful.

How/where do you plan on mounting your light and how do you grip your weapon?

Also, at what distance will you be shooting your firearms and still require white light?  For anything 75 meters and below, 65 lumens is plenty.  For 120, you won't notice much change in brightness at close ranges, but what you get is more "throw", meaning the light will reach out farther.

I've use a Surefire x200A on a 240B in a turret and it was plenty.  Not ideal for a belt-fed, but you get my point.

A P61 bulb lasted over 4K rounds on my AR without a shock isolated bezel.  I later added one anyway to prevent failure.  Raith is right, though, it's cheaper to prevent the failure than to repair it.  If it's for a firearm that your life will depend on, I'd say money is no object.
