*City of Tempe Unveils Tribute to Veterans

At the July 22 City Council meeting the Council voted to honor Tempe veterans by renaming Stadium Drive to Veterans Way. The sign unveiling ceremony will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 12 on the east deck of Tempe City Hall, 31 E. Fifth St.  The ceremony will commence with the presentation of colors by the Tempe Police Department followed by remarks from Mayor Hugh Hallman, Councilmember Ben Arredondo and Tempe Veteran Bruce Conklin.

"Veterans Way is Tempe's way of saying thank you to our veterans," said Councilmember Arredondo.  "It is Tempe's way of honoring and saluting the men and women who have proudly served our country in the armed forces." Veterans Way begins at College Ave. and continues past Sun Devil Stadium to University Drive. The street signage will be changed at Fifth St. and College Ave. when the unveiling ceremony takes place and the remainder of the signs will be installed during the football game.

Tempe veterans are invited to attend the ceremony and immediately following, join Tempe employees at the ASU vs. UTEP football game at Sun Devil Stadium.  Plans are being explored to place a monument to honor veterans at the new transit center to be built at Fifth St. and Veterans Way.
