AEG's / MP7A1 Upgrades
« on: October 05, 2006, 05:00:59 AM »
I've read a couple of reviews on the MP7 around the web and a few reference upgrades either coming our or already out, but I can't find any. I was wondering if anybody knows of any that are actually available. I don't want to turn it into a 400 fps monster, just boost it closer to normal GBB range in the low 300s.

Troubleshooting / SG1 gearbox issue
« on: October 05, 2006, 04:51:38 AM »
I bought a Marui SG1 from a board member a while back (can't find the post for it anymore) that had been upgraded and I can't remember what the upgrades were. I used it a few times and it worked great but some time ago it stopped firing right and made nasty grinding sounds. I stopped using it after the grinding started to try and minimize any damage and got busy so it's been sitting in a closet for a long time. I finally got around to taking it apart today and found the bevel gear has a partially broken tooth, badly enough so the gears just bind at that point. Everything else looks good other than it needs grease. My question is if there is any way to get a new gear without having to get a whole set and a new spring to make sure it all matches. I know the spring was upgraded, but don't know of any way to find out what the spring actually is so I don't want to get a gear/gearset that won't do the job.

General Airsoft Discussion / Barrel oil and gearbox grease
« on: April 05, 2005, 10:06:18 PM »
I was wondering if anybody knows of a decent place in town (Mesa/Tempe/and that corner of Phoenix area) to get silicon oil for my AEG barrel and grease for my gearbox? I've got an AEG and want to use it but had to take it apart to replace the hopup so that's pretty dry. I also had to replace the piston and it took me a few tries to get all the parts in there at the same time  so that lost a lot of the grease. I'd like to use this for the game this weekend and don't have the ability to get the stuff off of the Internet right now because my credit card company is run by inept people and it'll take too long to pay by mail and get the stuff. Also if anybody has some extra available I'd be willing to buy some off of you. Thanks guys.

Accessories & Gear / Uvex Stealth Goggles
« on: April 05, 2005, 08:38:59 PM »
I've had these goggles for about a year now for airsofting and figured I'd share this with people. I know goggles are probably (to me they are) the most important piece of gear to an airsofter. It's tough to have a fun game when you've lost an eye and it tends to be a tad inconvenient afterwards. And so I got some Uvex goggles for my first game last year with my Camelback from the same site.

They come with antifog, antiscratch and antistatic coating, though mine have some scratches they don't cause any problems and the goggles do occasionally fog up on the top half, but never too bad. They are nice sized and lightweight so don't interfere with peripheral vision at all, a few times I've forgotten I'm wearing them. One downside to that is that they are a bit bulky on the side and so it's tougher to use scopes and such because it's hard to get your eye that close, but I figure that's a downside to goggles anyway. They also meet/exceed (based on which site you look at) ANSI Z87.1-1989 and CSA Z94.3-1992. I can attest that they can take some BB hits. Mine have been thwacked directly in front of my eye a few times with BBs at decent strength and no sign of any damage. The strap that comes with them is a thin rubber one, it's held up without any problem, but I didn't want them falling off by accident so I jury-rigged a valcro strap to ensure they stay on tight. The only main complaint I have is that the seal around the face is rubber, nice for cleaning but it occasionally gets a bit irritating near the end of the game, solved by taking them off during an official break in the game.

For those of you looking for some decent goggles they're here for $10.00
http://www.safetyglassesusa.com/uvstealgogcl.html and other places have them for around the same price.

Introduce Yourself! / Chayote Intro
« on: February 20, 2005, 10:12:32 PM »
I'm Francis, I first got into airsoft after a friend and I bought cheap springers at Fry's electronics just for kicks. We had apartment wars and then I started an arms race. I left my springer there one night and had to go back and knew I'd be ambushed (as close as you can get to an ambush in a small apartment anyway) so I stopped by Fry's and get a mini electric then lit them up when I went in. Next two other guys got minis and we all got a small interest in airsoft in general. Then I got a springer rifle from eBay. We stopped the arms race and banned airsoft guns from the games (for a while at least). I kept the interest and found AA, played at a game with AA sometime last year (Op Dragons Head I think) and loved it. Since then I've played a few other games (5 maybe) and moved up from springers and minis to an M16 Boys (Xmas present from friends bc/all my guns were dead) and now I've got an M9 GBB and G3 SG1 and some gear. I also pulled open the SG1 gearbox bc/the piston was broken and replaced that, replaced a motor connector and replaced the hop-up, all without parental supervision.
