flakjaks
« on: April 24, 2011, 04:28:56 PM »
ok so after seeing these on evike i decided theyd be a good thing to buy when my birthday comes in june. and after doing a little research on them i see that almost everyone has one (i know not everyone, just a figure of speech). they seem to be great goggles and i plan on getting the steel mesh carbon face version 2 lower face protector to go along with them and i was wondering whats your expierence with the flak jaks and the steel mesh lower face mask? and if anyone has any extra flakjaks, id like to buy one for the right price.

Haven't use the Flak Jaks, but if this is the face mask your thinking of:

I have one that I'll sell you. Never been used. I bought it and couldn't make it work with my headset, helmet, and goggles, so I got a different one.

Friend of mine bought them from here.  Figured it might be helpful.

Flak-Jaks aren't bad, but they are a bit big.

I would say no to this type of eye protection, there own site says they don't meet military standards:  http://www.goggleoverstock.com/index.html  Revision is the way to go IMHO: http://www.revisioneyewear.com/story.html
I've been using Revision for years and I'm very satisfied.  No interference with your optics or iron sites because they are built to Military standards.  Here is a good review:  http://www.youtube.com/user/crazyNCman# ... XGecRr2eDQ
I hope this info can help make up your mind.

im not trying to bash you or anything but i think they do meet military standards and i think those goggles are like twice the price of these, i hope you know that these were made for operation desert storm and the reason there soo cheap is because of the massive surplus.
dont believe me? proof is below
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3VmiIz9UbI  (not saying this is real or if they used some sort of ballistic glass but seems legit)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-RxCIMU6Jw  (500 fps resistant? good enough for me)

im not trying to hate i cant stress that enough but ive seen soooo many people with the flakjak goggle and i think its the right one for me, if anyone can correct me on anything i missed or anything that isnt true let me know.

You guys need to get your facts right.

The link referenced here http://www.goggleoverstock.com/index.html  Is not the manufacturer of the Flakjak but rather is a store that has some defective ones that they are trying to sell.  They are defective by their claim that there is a "distortion in the "as worn" position vertically only." Hence why they are cheap from this site.

The real manufacture site is here http://www.arenaindustries.com/specs.html which states:
Ballistically designed lenses for maximal eye safety:

   -Z87.1 - 2003 Plus certified
   - MIL-STD-662F (as related to 22 cal., 17 grain, Type 2 fragment simulating projectile)

In short Flakjaks are Ansi Z87.1 impact rated and are worn by those currently serving in the military.

I know I'm new here and I expect to get bashed, this happens on forums all around the world, no big deal.  My point is how did these "defective" goggles get on the market in the first place? and how many more are out there without this disclaimer? the manufacture should of destroyed them when they found this defect in the first place, but no they sold them to distributions at a discounted price.  I guess my eyes are priceless to me and spending 60.00 for superior eye wear is worth it.

This site has been a wealth of knowledge for all of us due to the accurate information presented.  My intent is not to bash you personally because you are new or for any other reason but rather to kill miss information from being taken as fact.  You have clarified what you meant to say which is a valid point of concern. All I can hope for is that people continue on with the tradition, thanks.

The "defect" is that they do not meet the military's view distortion requirements.  They will protect your eyes just fine.
