Dealers/Techs / Nukefets, Nukefet Completes, Tactical Nukefets
« on: February 28, 2015, 05:04:23 PM »
Over 2000 sold worldwide!

www.nukefet.com

All NukeFets (Nukefet Original, Tactical Nukefet, Nukefet Complete) are hand soldered and assembled in America by an American US Army Veteran.

They are designed to be affordable, reliable, compact, and have the capability to increase your rate of fire (depending on several factors), while using premium quality parts designed to tolerate demanding builds.

NOTE: Please only use batteries rated for at least 20A discharge. The product works with
7.4v batteries(minimum), but if you are using it in a high performance AEG, please consider using an 11.1v
battery instead.
You can calculate your battery's discharge rating by taking your batteries "c" rating, and
multiplying it by your mAh rating / 1000.
For example a 20c, 1500 mAh battery would be rated for 20 x 1500 / 1000 = 30A.

Nukefet:

The NukeFet is capable of handling some of the most demanding airsoft builds imaginable! The
key to its power comes from its International Rectifier 3034 mosfet. I only used RoHS compliant
name brand components, no Chinese cheap knock offs or factory seconds. I mostly use
Panasonic, Infineon, and International Rectifier parts.

I use 16 gauge Alpha Wire primary wires and 24 gauge Alpha Wire secondary wire. This is some
of the best wire available on the market, and it isn’t cheap!

The NukeFet comes with approximately 18" of wire on the battery side, and 18" of wiring on
the drain side, 2 gold plated Lonex OEM motor connectors, a Deans Ultra style male
connector, and 4 pieces of heat shrink for the motor and battery connections.
The NukeFet now uses even thinner 16awg Alpha Wire! The OD is 1.96mm. The previous wiring
OD was 2.34mm.
Rated for 12.8v maximum.

NukeFet Complete:

The NukeFet Complete is a standard NukeFet which has been hand soldered and assembled,
and requires no soldering skills to install.

The NukeFet Complete is compatible with most v2 rear wired configurations. It was designed
and tested to work with many G3, MP5, M4, M16 configurations but should work with other
rear-wired v2 installations as well.

Please check that the following measurements are compatible with your AEG before
purchasing.

When installed, the wire measurements are (approx.) as follows:

Positive motor wiring: 4.8" (plus motor connector)
Negative motor wiring: 4.6" (plus motor connector)
Back of gearbox to mosfet: 5.7"
Back of gearbox to battery connector: 12"
Rated for 12.8v maximum.

Tactical Nukefet:

The Tactical NukeFet differs from the standard NukeFet, by being able to take even MORE abuse. The Tactical
Nukefet is rated for 20v (normal NukeFet is rated to 12.8v officially) and can tolerate an
additional 50 amps over the standard NukeFet (and all other traditional 3034 based
MOSFETs)! Want to run a 5s (18.5v) LiPo on a 700 fps 30 RPS gun? Done. Want a
Gatling cannon with a custom gearbox and run it off of a car battery? Done.
This MOSFET will tackle (almost) any AEG you can throw at it.

Comes standard with approximately 18" of 14awg (2.31mm Outer Diameter) Alpha Wire
on each side of the MOSFET, 18" of additional 14awg Alpha Wire, 4 gold plated Lonex
OEM motor connectors, a Deans Ultra style male connector, and 4 pieces of heat shrink
for the motor and battery connections.

Rated for 20v maximum.

All prices are plus $5 flat rate shipping, regardless to the # of fets you order.

There is a bill introduced that would make it illegal to have an airsoft or any type of "imitation" firearm unless the entire gun was painted white, bright orange, bright purple, bright yellow, bright green, or bright pink.

Real Firearms / Silenced NFA fun day shoot
« on: October 11, 2014, 08:40:13 PM »
Was at a shoot with some buddies today, silenced pistols/rifles/sbrs/etc only.. was a great day, had a ton of fun.. some brief highlights:

Put like 60 rounds through the barrett m107 in about an hour, was getting so hot was worried it was going to start  machinegunning.

Delinking M2 rounds by hand sucks, btw:

The suspects... and their target..

Buddy thinking he is a badass shooting standing up. This is not an easy task. Not advisable either. Its really a task where you can literally aim at a mountain, and almost miss.

Part of the "collection"...

Another part:

Shooting a buddys NFA Gemtech suppressed G36 (yes I'm a couch commando.):

Lessons learned: stupid looking silicone dollar store oven mits are a lifesaver with full auto rifles after a bunch of rounds when changing suppressors or even holding the rifle in the case of the g36.

Accessories & Gear / Most effective camo to use in scrub desert
« on: June 07, 2014, 06:36:11 PM »
So I keep having an argument with people here in AZ as to which is the best camo to use in AZ so I took it upon myself to do a comparison of the various camo patterns that I have and use or like to use. This is preliminary, as I decided it didn't showcase well enough yet the capabilities of these camos, and I noticed that I forgot to bring some out to the field with me that I had had in a different bag.

If anyone has any input on how they would compare them, beyond actually wearing them, if you have any ideas of distances and angles for camera and poser to best illustrate the differences I'm all ears.

Tried to keep exposure and color hue settings for camera the same position to position, though the sun was setting and a few have slight differences but I still feel they are overall representative vs one another.

Ie: First picture for all camo, settings the same for all shots. Second picture for camo, settings the same for all.

Thoughts?

Reviews / Cradle Billet Box 6061 CNC V2 gearbox
« on: November 24, 2013, 02:42:09 PM »
Hey everyone, I received my Cradle Billet Box gearbox the other day, and started assembly on it, with the idea of building a high performance G3 sniper rifle for an upcoming sniper event next month. The goal is 550fps with .25g. The build will be completed next weekend with durability & stress tests to follow.

As it is in its packaging:

Once I took it out of its box, my first impression that I had was that this thing was incredibly light. So much so I decided to take out my scale and measure it vs a lonex shell I had laying around.

Lonex (without bushings or selector plate attached):

Cradle (WITH bushings and selector plate attached).

Also note, that the gearbox indicates the torque ratings of the fasteners for the shell. Also, the windows come pre-radiused.

It's so much lighter, that I decided to start adding components to the gearbox until I could get it to weigh in the same as a bone stock, completely empty lonex shell. To get there, I added lonex 8mm bearings, siegetek 20:1s, DA 14.5 steel teeth piston (not lightened) and polycarb piston head with ball bearings, SHS cylinder and DA cylinder head with sorbo attached, lonex tappet plate, lonex G3 nozzle. Also had all shims to shim properly, a steel MP5 trigger, and a SHS trigger assembly.

Basically, an entire complete gearbox minus wiring, a spring, and a spring guide.

Some interesting little features:

A small cut-out in the gearbox shell that keeps your trigger spring in place so that your trigger does not move about when taking the gearbox apart:

Two small orientation windows that show your piston alignment once your box is sealed up, allowing you to make sure that your piston is sitting correctly in the guide rails.

The cut out at the bottom is to allow larger gauge wire to be used in the gearbox shell, as well as having a small tab protruding outward to keep the wiring retained in position so that it doesn't get cut up by your motor. The window above it, next to the shaft hole of your anti reversal latch is to allow the decompression of the gearbox's spring.

So, there are a lot of strong points to the gearbox, but what about weaknesses?

Honestly, they're more anal retentive gripes but they're worth pointing out.

1. No quick change spring guide. To some this is a plus, since having a quick change spring guide could weaken the rear of the gearbox (which matters since you're going to be using a gearbox like this in stressful builds), add weight and complexity, and add a proprietary part, and for many v2 builds isn't even useful.

2. It uses imperial not metric fasteners throughout. It's not like they're hard to track down if you need replacements but it's worth pointing out for those of you who start throwing metric hex's at the fasteners and start stripping them out.

3. Extra reinforcement material inside the shell which precludes the ability to mount a mosfet internally. It is completely safe to remove this extra material if you wish to install one internally, it just adds extra work for the installer.

Stress tests and final thoughts will follow in a few weeks as I put this gearbox through its paces.

Airsoft Items WANTED / Cheap M4 style metal body
« on: October 26, 2013, 05:08:39 PM »
Looking for a metal m4 body. Can be beat up and abused, I'm going to be stripping it and cerakoting it anyways.

Looking for cheap.

An AEG at its core is an electrical circuit. A battery is connected to one end, and a motor at the other, with a trigger in between. The trigger engages a switch which completes the circuit.

In a conventional gearbox, the circuit is completed by a moving part called the trigger trolley. It rides along with the physical motion of the trigger, and at the engagement point, completes the electrical circuit sending power to the motor.  In full auto mode, this circuit stays completed until you remove your finger from the trigger which breaks the circuit.

This is where a mosfet comes into play. This mechanical switching circuit has several inherent weaknesses. One, the switch carries the entire load of the electrical circuit through it every time, meaning you need heavy gauge wires going to and from the switch. Two, because it is carrying such a high amperage load, the current is such that it arcs, and actually causes bolts of electricity to jump between the switch contacts before they physically make contact.

Why is this arcing bad?

This is a new trigger trolley:

This is what happens to a trigger trolley once  it has been run with a lipo for any real amount of game time:

In fact, its probably the #1 thing that I fix in broken AEG’s, and its why I decided to start making mosfets. Here's just the handful I still have on my bench from the last couple of jobs:

Arcing literally is used in the industrial world as a method of welding. It will melt almost any metal given enough amperage. The kind of amperage that a lipo is all too capable of producing.

But why a mosfet? What does it improve?

The mosfet acts as a relay of sorts, except it has no moving parts. It carries all of the heavy current that normally would arc through the trigger contacts (over 30 amps in modified AEG’s) and instead only relies on a very small (it is so close to zero that some EE books assume it is zero to simplify some equations) signal to be sent through the trigger contacts instead, thusly preventing arcing and preserving your trigger for years to come.

AEG’s that say that they are “lipo ready” and that do not have a mosfet are just time bombs waiting to happen. It is NOT a matter of if, but a matter of when. If you’re lucky, it’ll simply stop conducting and when you pull the trigger the AEG will not fire. If you are unlucky, the current will arc weld the two pieces together and the gun will shoot at full auto until you unplug the battery.. this is not a fun occurrence, and can actually ruin a perfectly good lipo.

So if a mosfet is good, are active braking mosfets better?

The short answer is: no.

The long answer is a bit more complex, and basically people use them as a bandaid to fix a poorly tuned gearbox. In essence, the gearbox experiences overspin due to using too strong of a battery or motor with an inappropriately weak spring, without compensating for it in some way.

Active braking (AB) literally switches voltage sent to the motor from positive to negative the moment you release the trigger causing the motor to momentarily try to spin backwards. The effect of this is that the motor stops spinning (almost) immediately, preventing overspin.

Sounds great, right? Not so fast.

AB’ing comes at a cost. The cost is primarily on your AEG’s motor. Causing the motor to switch polarities suddenly puts an intense amount of strain on the brushes of your motor, and will shorten its life measurably. To some, this is a tradeoff worth having since it makes a gun work within the constraints they have set out for themselves, but in almost every circumstance, you are better off having your gearbox professionally tuned so that you don’t need AB in the first place.

AEG's / Crazy mosfet abusing and testing

Edit:

Just shot a video to show just how incredibly overkill powerful these mosfets are.  Enjoy!

Here is the second test, ramping it up even more!!!

New video 9/1/2013

Mosfet and AEG shooting underwater!!

http://youtu.be/S3U_xVUhr2I

The mosfet package dimensions are (approximately):

16.3mm x 10.7mm x 7.95mm

That's smaller than a pair of deans connectors, and can actually fit inside some gearbox shells!

Also inside a v2 lonex shell to show fitment:

The mosfet is able to run anything up to a 14.8v (it can run higher, but no warranty) battery and capable of the most demanding airsoft builds with it's International Rectifier 3034 mosfet. I only used RoHS compliant name brand components, no chinese cheap knock offs. I mostly use Panasonic, Infineon, and International Rectifier parts.

I also only use 16 gauge Alpha Wire primary wires and 24 gauge Alpha Wire secondary wire. Colors of wire that is included can and will change as my stock changes. This is some of the best wire available on the market, and it isn't cheap.

Mosfets come with approximately 5 total feet of 16 gauge Alpha wire. Also come with 2 motor connectors, 1 deans-style connector, and heat shrink tubing.

Wiring is 2.34mm in OD.

I have 5 extra Lancer L5 AWM in Dark Earth that I'll part with.

They have very reliable anti tilt followers, and have reinforced steel feed lips which won't bend or fail over time when left loaded for long periods of times like full polymer mags like pmags can do.

From the manufacturer:

The Lancer Systems L5AWM Magazine is a polymer and steel hybrid that combines the best features of each material. The one-piece steel feed lip unit is permanently fixed to the polymer body. The steel is hardened so the dimensions will not change in long term storage or rough use. The PTFE coating ensures the steel will not rust. The polymer body is designed with an internal dimension that is a constant curve, combined with a no-tilt follower for maximum reliability in feeding 5.56x45mm NATO ammunition. The exterior texture of the polymer body is aggressive for improved grip when changing magazines. The steel feed lip assembly and the polymer body are corrosion and chemical resistant.  The Floor plate slides off similar to a USGI magazine for cleaning and maintenance.

Hey everyone, decided its time to start slimming down my car collection. This has been in my possession for about 4 years now, I bought it from the original owner. I have almost all receipts for all work and custom parts on the car from the time it was new, including the original window sticker.

Black with tan leather interior. These are a few month old pics, I'll try to snap some more recent pics when I get some time next week, including interior shots.

It has $2500 custom made two-piece BBS RKII wheels with bridgestone potenza re760 sport tires
2 piece Stoptech big brake kit
Stainless steel brake lines
H&R stage 5 adjustable coilovers
Neuspeed turbo-back exhaust system
Boston Acoustics speakers, bose amps, alpine deck that color matches the dash and lights
All rubber bushings replaced with polyurethane
Aluminum subframe reinforcements
Short shift kit and sparco shift knob
Custom RS4 bumper installed
9 lbs lightweight flywheel and ceramic clutch

I have so, so, so many more mods, these are just off the top of my head. Roughly $15k in receipts over the years of upgrades and mods.

Included but not installed:

Stage 3 turbo kit including headers, turbo, ecu, custom injectors which will give the car roughly 400whp
CPP custom billet adjustable control arms

I probably have more stuff in boxes, I don't even remember all the spare parts and upgrade parts I still have in boxes around in my garage. All will be included.

The car makes a good daily driver for an enthusiast, but with 18" wheels and the aggressive race H&R coilovers, its best suited for those who like aggressive suspension setups or for someone who wanted to Auto cross. The suspension in the photos is its mid-way setting roughly... it can be raised about another inch and a half, and lowered about another inch.

The good:
Most of the electronics gremlins that happen with the B5 chassis have been taken care of.
Both front window regulators recently replaced.
Oil changed religiously with Mobil 1 Euro 0w40 Synthetic and Bosch filters.
A/c blows cold, heat blows hot.
Runs, idles correctly, starts easily.
Turbo spools nicely.

The less good:
Sunroof needs a new motor
Vacuum leak from a hose that runs from the gas tank to the charcoal canister
Few minor dings in the paint, paint chips on the front bumper.
Cup holder in center dash doesn't pop out.
It's an overall good condition 14 year old used car.

Overall a great running car, I use it every so often to commute about just to keep it lubricated, though for the most part I drive it less and less. I just am about to finish my long term project car and need the drive way space for it, and frankly I'm getting old and I'm starting to prefer the stock sports suspension on my other cars. I haven't ever tracked the car, nor had the original owner he told me, although it is built almost tailor made in fact, for auto cross.

Over $15,000 in mods, buy the whole car for $6,500 OBO.

HK3 aluminum barrel, slide, and full-trademark polymer body, 6.03mm tightbore, 150% hammer/slide recoil kit

I media blasted the slide until it was raw aluminum for a brushed aluminum look, then color filled the grooves in the back of the slide.

Still debating what else to do to it.
