I've been to a couple of the LC games and enjoyed them because,
1. I got to see a lot of friends, new and old, in one place.
2. The AO's were kind of neat.
3. For the most part it's a group of like minded individuals.
However, was it MILSIM? Beside the Super Bowl level gear show, no.
It had a command structure and loose storylines but with a large crowd you're going to get the "I paid $$$ to be here and I don't want to do those orders, I'm doing my own thing."
It comes with the territory. Plus there was a lot of walking around with no orders, objectives or directive. Just walk around until you see bad guys: shoot at bad guys.
Now I would have had more fun with direct objectives, even if no shooting was actually involved, as long as it was part of a larger scale cooperative.
Now a 24 hour event would be fun, but it takes conditioning and most Airsoft players aren't up to that level and aren't interested in achieving it. My personal goal is to get to that kind of level.
I think a good model for a 24hr scenario possibly in AZ is to design a game where you can utilize both the dedicated endurance guys and the players that have other desires. E.g. Have a firebase that runs out or finished missions every few hours, if your up for it load up, if not hang back until the next. Not only would this let guys who want to run the whole 24 ironman it out it can even inspire other player to want to obtain that level to extend their experience. I totally respect the guys that can run those long games. It's also a balance of AO size vs. player count. 300 players in a square city block? Just an Airsoft death match.
100 in a couple square miles? Totally different game. Now you have land nav, comms and tactics.

This is my question, I know some really enthusiastic milsim people throughout the country that are into the whole realism aspect to it with the gear and the gameplay.  if I could get enough to commit to coming here, is there any chance there could be something like a  Red Dagger?

I'd do a milsim WWII themed game in AZ, themed around perhaps the Africa campaigns.

Additionally, myself and a couple guys are going to East Wind in March, 2014. You should, too.

My problem with East Wind is this, I've played at D-Day adventure park so many times for Operation Broken Home by AMS and when MSE was still big (Yes they are still around but the good guys from MSE started AMS) I went to a few Oklahoma Invasions. I'm just not a fan of the field. East Wind does look cool though, but I want modern day stuff, not the 80's.  Only type of older stuff that looks really cool to me is WWII stuff but thats more reanacting then what I like.

I definitely agree with you.  Just wish there were more guys out there that were in physical shape to play for three days straight on little sleep.

You misunderstand. There's a lot of us in our 20s (or 30s or 40s even) that can handle that kind of game play. What you aren't anticipating is the impact that this will have on our lives. Showing up for work worn out and tired as fuck from a 3 day game is not the sort of thing that impacts our work life well. You, as a high school student, may be able to sleep through class, but most people can't catch some Z's on the job and expect the boss to accept it. If you have a part time job, sleep through your shift and then try to explain to your boss that it was because of MILSIM.

Then you have have to consider that, for the vast majority of airsofters, that isn't fun. I was with you when you said night missions. I was with you when you said land nav. Hell, hauling 80lb of gear sounded like something I should try once or twice before knocking it. When you said 3 days of game play, with little (I assume you mean 3 or less hours a night) of sleep, you lost me and a ton of other people. It's not that we can't hang. It's just that we're sane and enjoy the fact that we don't have to suffer through that sort of thing. If you're that hardcore, then East Winds is THE ONLY answer to your prayers.

I'm in; I'm hoping and saving to get to go to East Wind.  I originally got into this looking for games like that, even if it were only for a day.  Hell I've got scenarios floating around that I've wanted to use for years now; I just don't have the resources to make it happen yet.  I'm always looking for opportunities for good hardcore milsim games though!

Honestly what I would really like to see is more "technical" attributes. Complex storylines are interesting but usually it ends up being just a BB fight, mostly because the AO's we play at in state are usually too small. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Battlefield style games are fun.
I personally am looking forward to what Ghoul and Mad Sarge have in the works. Planning and hosting any kind of game is hard work and I appreciate you guys stepping it up a notch or two.

I used to write warhammer campaigns. You lot want a series of four- five games with a progressive -based storylines? persistent objectives? Ok, done.

Want to go do a 2 day game, sure. Lets do it!

Let me know.

Haha, alright, maybe not three days of that as most people lie you said can not do it because of other conflicts, I just want that real milxim experience of the modern day, not East Wind.  Maybe MadSarge will put something together for up in Prescott soon.
