Anyone here own a CA SA58 or a King Arms FAL?
« on: October 23, 2007, 12:12:24 AM »
I was wondering if anyone here owns a CA SA58 or a King Arms FAL? Or anyone had any type of experience with them. I have yet to see them on the field.

I think Darkhold here has the SA58 and cipherblue on TAC has an KA FAL.  I have some experience with ciphers KA FAL, whats your question?

Mostly to see how they like them, and I have heard that the First Few to come out by KA had some small issues. I would just like to know I dont want to have a bad experiance like G&G's M14 series. Not that anything could ever be that bad. Also if someone happens to own bolth and give a comparison review.

I've pointed CipherBlue to this thread so he can chime in but from I recall he has had issues with his, some related to adding an aftermarket receiver rail and some due to just bad design.  The noteable issue being the hop was problematic and the air seal was not great after he added the rail making the fps lower then what one would expect for the upgrades that went into the gun.  Externally I think he loved the look and feel, but if you want to skirmish with it you have to evaluate the whole package.

You are probably thinking of mine.  I ran with it at SASCO last weekend.  I rode with Darkhold to the last game, but I was using my own gear.

That was the first skirmish I had done with it but I was happy with the performance.  I would say it's pretty standard stock CA performance.  I haven't used it enough to make a long term report, but so far it is great.  My only complaints about the gun right now are no standard/mid mags and it's stupidly hard to find the RIS kit for it.  Last I looked, only two retailers (both HK) carried it.

Mags are NOT compatible between the CA and KA guns.  Nor could they be modified to work (at least within reason).

Oh, one other note that might be an issue for some....

The standard iron sights have too low of a profile to use wearing goggles effectively.  I was using an Aimpoint and a flip up rear sight.  They co-witnessed perfectly and I was very pleased with the performance.

Ice, if you just want to get an general overview of the gun, I did write a short review on it in the reviews section.

One thing to keep in mind is that the Classic Army version is the SA-58 Tactical Carbine version (in other words, 13" barrel).  I believe both King Arms FAL's are considerably longer than that.  That may be good or bad depending on your planned usage.  I had a 250mm "barrel extension" on mine at the game and that was plenty long for me.

Where did you get your 250mm "barrel extension? How does it look?

Sorry XavierMace, had you and Darkholds forum names mixed up I guess....

Ice, it looked sweet!  I love the look of the SA58, definitely on my 'wants' list for the future.

^^

It's cool.

I will try to take a couple pics this weekend with the extension, Aimpoint replica, and flip up sight.  I really liked the way it looks (although I like FAL's in general) but I think it would be even better with the RIS kit.

The barrel extension probably came from Redwolf, but not 100% sure.

Here is the picture.  I am waiting for one of the more common retailers to get the RIS kit in.
