Title: ATTENTION FORUM NEWBIES, REQUIRED READING!!!!
Post by: Airsofter1 on December 04, 2005, 02:41:09 PM
As most of the forums users here know, you must have 10 post before you can start your own topic.

Lately there have been quite a bit of new forum users making 10 quick post just so they can start a new topic, either so they can post something for sale in the For Sale area or because they are too lazy to use the search function to find an answer to a question they have.

So we have done this:  The 10 post requirement for starting new topics has been removed.  Newbies can now start new topics till their fingers bleed - or not.

Here are some rules/guidelines that I recommend to everyone new and old before they consider clicking those two little tabs "New Topic" or "Post Reply":

1) If replying to a topic, consider if it will contribute to discussion at hand.  Post such as "thats sick man!" or "yeah, thats cool" will be deleted immediately.

2)  The search button is your friend.

3)  If you want to tell someone to do a search, you must also provide an answer to their question. If you cannot, then do not post on the topic. Brief responses only saying to do a search will be deleted on sight.

4)  Don't be afraid to fill out your profile and introduce yourself. Feel free to post something about yourself in the Introduce Yourself! (http://www.airsoftarizona.com/forumbb/viewforum.php?f=94&sid=3b392a1e61308f2a756bd75fba5bfdb2) area.  You may find yourself more welcome by all if we know a little bit more about you.

Good luck and happy posting!

I should have added this too:

5) Proper grammar and spelling will go a long way.  Liberal use spell check is highly recommended.

6)  No one cares what your post count is if all you've posted is garbage.

This is an informational source, not a message board to leave insignificant comments.

The Airsoft Arizona forums are one of the largest and most complete airsoft forums on the internet.  Do a google search for something airsoft related, and the odds are you will get a response from these forums.

Because of that, users from across the country, perhaps the world, come here to find solid information.  Of course, locals visit AA to check up on the latest game info as well.

Do you want someone to come here and see 500 posts of gun/gear compliments and unanswered newbie questions?  I don't.

Feel free to post away, that's what the forums are for.  Just keep it topical and informational in nature.  Small talk is best saved for Private Messages.

Okay, just trying to make a point that I couldn't do what the board said I could do, and thought maybe we might want to fix that...

Wasn't that the process somebody put in place to keep newbies like me from posting aimless replies instead of a valuable post or two?
Title:
Post by: Ganef on March 30, 2007, 01:48:10 PM
The debate has gone back and forth about the merits of such. But the main object was to disalow new members to the boards from making new subjects untill they may have been familiar with the search funcitons or read the boards and found their question was answered already. But we just found that if you want to sell something, you dont need to fill up the boards with 10 usless posts to do so. We just ignore dumb new threads and let the mods get to them when they can.

You can post an intro, you just cant create a new thread about yourself. And you are right the rules dont specifically designate a particular thread wherewhich to post an intro, just an "area" which could be misinterpreted.
Title:
Post by: Airsofter1 on March 30, 2007, 03:11:12 PM
Yes, you can post an intro (in one of the exsisting threads there), you just cannot make a new thread.
You need to have a minimum of 2 post to be able to create new threads.  This was done to thwart spam bots.

It is generally frowned upon, unless you can actually provide meaningful posts as opposed to one shot spammy posts.

Oh and rank doesn't mean anything, its just a visual accoutrement.

Title:
Post by: SilverLogic on October 15, 2007, 10:34:19 PM
There is a clear reason why I pm'd you ..   resurrecting 3 year old posts.. and posting all over like a forum troll on old posts. clearly there was a reason you were banned from here before. Dont place your blame on anyone else but yourself bud.

Yet it was within your power to lurk for a while to see how the posting environment is around here. You're not the first n00b this board has ever had and you won't be the last. But mouthing off to someone who was trying to help you isn't the way to go.

I agree with SilverLogic, my friend if you didn't know what you were doing then who posted those messages in 3 year old threads? You also stated that you were here before, were you here so short that you forgot out protocol? you are to blame for making useless posts in useless threads, someone got annoyed by your lack of caring in what you posted, i see no wrong in what he did. In fact he probably beat me too it. Im not going to say that I'm a good poster, but i do have my moments. however Ive never resurrected a 3 year old thread, for a sentence that if i recall correctly didn't do much for the topic. YOU are responsible for what YOU post.

Also, as I'm sure you'll find for yourself, there is more to be done here in separating the wheat from the chaff than, say, LFer.

What about necromancing (bringing back really old topics)? It's frowned upon, right?
Title:
Post by: Ganef on April 18, 2008, 11:57:16 AM
It is called, Necroposting and yes it is frowned upon.

Read the whole thread and the dates of the posts and think critically if your post will contribute before submitting a reply.
Title:
Post by: KOBO on April 18, 2008, 12:40:38 PM
Like Ganef said, think critically before posting. If you have something of value to add like experience dealing with the subject then your good, if you are asking a legit question about the topic that you really want to know then your good.

Some members on here like to go out of their way to point out a necro post just because of dates are not close, as long as your post is relevant then don't worry, they just have to much time on their hands. I rather have you continue on a old post then start a whole new post. That way when you do a search you can find info in few posts then getting a bunch of crap pulled up.

Just avoid making commentary posts like "that is so cool" or "I want one of those"

For those that like to correct others for reviving a post when they are being legitimate about it, adding knowledge or asking further questions, get past it, I promise you will be able to manage.
Title:
Post by: deathbydanish on April 18, 2008, 01:07:18 PM
I think the problem with some n00bs is that they necropost simply to get rid of the n00b tag. That's when people start getting pissed off because these n00bs didn't put any real effort into getting rid of the tag in the first place.
Title:
Post by: Raith on April 18, 2008, 11:36:52 PM
In my opinion, necroposting itself isn't bad - As long as it is pertinent.  Posting something that is not pertinent well after the conversation has ended is in bad form, I think.  However, what irks me more than just that is the usual resulting mini-mods attempting to tell that necroposter that he just did something wrong.  If the one post is out of place and incorrect, the 3 more that random people post to point that out is 3x as bad.

Well, you need a minimum of five people.

You need a squad leader, a rifleman, an antitank soldier, a medic and a sniper.

Ideally the squad leader would have a couple unlocks so that your team can be really good. If you have the patch and website unlocks that's even better.

After that, pick a cool tag and you're half way there.

Well, in airsoft, an anti-tank guy would need at a minimum an m203 or an m79 but more likely some type of rocket launcher like a at4 or law or something. Basically something that launches a foam rocket and will count towards killing a vehicle like truck or Humvee or something.

This is how a tank can get taken out. Using the term "tank" rather loosely, this mostly refers to APCs, half-tracks and other vehicles.
