Title: Introductions
Post by: Bullseye on May 18, 2005, 03:32:07 PM
Didn't see a spot here for any of us N00bs to post their intros without resurrecting dead threads or whatever to get enough clout to open a new forum, so....

I'm Bruce - go by "Bullseye" - some of you may know me from Ops or skirmishes in the past. I'm part of Team FE0 and have played Airsoft for about 3 years now. Prior to that I did the PB thang too.

And Yes, the age is correct on the profile :) - I'm an old f@rt

Welcome to the boards!

I'm sure we've met once or twice, but it's nice to have you.

Bah, you're not old, you're middle age. My father, now, he's old. 63 is old.

Come out and play with us on Saturday. The thread is in the May Airsoft Games forum...something like Saturday 4 Peaks Game.

had to resurrect a dead thread, but here it is. my name is sean, i live in tempe right now. i'm still trying to figure out if this is something i want to get into. i've been reenacting the civil war in arizona for 2 years now and most of my extra money goes into that. it's a different form of combat, but i figure it is a start. it has given me a chance to get used to chain of command (though it tends to be more of a rabble). so any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Welcome, man.  Do you do the mock battles and all that?
Title:
Post by: Husker on June 07, 2005, 10:46:26 PM
indeed i do. i have reenacted the march the 26th North Carolina did on June 30th, 1863, the night before they ran into Buford's dismounted cavalry on the first day of Gettysburg.

I have also reenacted the battles of Picacho Pass, Glorietta, and a couple others that took place in the southwest. plus about a hundred other tacticals. it's a blast. i'm kind of interested to see the differences in the fighting tactics used between the civil war and modern warfare. i know there are plenty, but i want to experience them firsthand.

actually, the civil war did have early models of them both. but they didn't see much use.

At first I thought you were joking about the Civil War thing. But, cool. That's interesting, I actually really enjoy things about the Civil war. Have you made any movies?
Title:
Post by: Husker on June 08, 2005, 03:21:38 PM
no unfortunetly i havent. though i am not sure i would have wanted to be in Gods and Generals anyway. i have met some reenactors who were in Gettysburg and Gods and Generals though. and i know one man who has been on the History Channel as a historian for the First Invasion: War of 1812

Post by: Eveloompaloompa on July 21, 2005, 01:27:57 PM
:?:

I also was unable to post as a "newbie"  so Here I am.

Hello all and let me say I am looking forward to the conversion from Paintball to Airsoft.  I have played scenario paintball for years and been too busy until now to make the switch!

I actually have a dual purpose in mind with joining you organization 1. to play, meet new friends and have fun 2. to use my resources as the brand rep for Monster Energy drink to help sponsor the organization and help to promote the sport and players!

I read through the Newbie guide that is posted (very thorough but also super informative, a must read for sure). Kudos to the author for taking the time to spell it all out!

In a past life I was a Sheriff's deputy and have had a love of this type of sport for years! (as a kid the good ol' brass bb's left quite the welts!!!!)

I'm 34, live in central phx, love the outdoors, all types of activities including motorcycling camping, fishing etc.

Quick note about the name and I'll quit rambling,  I have played Ghost Recon on PC for years and used that handle (Willy Wonka fan) and the name stuck and always got some laughs so why change a good thang!

Looking forward to meeting some of you all at the next game and getting started.  Currently do not have any toys but looking to purchase in the next week or so, though I would check the classifieds first and keep some cash in the family so to speak!

Later ~

Evel

Interesting Vince, not to be taken personally by any means at all but what killed paintball for me was pre-teen and teenagers most of which who had more attitude than anything spraying hundreds of rds off the fly with $1500 rigs bouncing paint off big air bags.

Sponsors are a crucial part of any sport, with out sponsors (yours included) sports would never have reached the level they have. (and the members would be paying full price!!!!!)

By no means am I looking to "take control" or direct anything, it was merely my offering as I do for anyone I can to simply bring Ice cold drinks to games free of charge and hopefully you'll get the chance to enjoy a few of them sometime soon!

Look fwd to the next game day!

I hate to crush your airsoft dreams but we try to keep he lowest profile possible...but when it HAS to be seen(airsoft) we promote it in a professional, milsim matter... Sponsers are cool for huge ops like Lion Claws and Irene etc etc...but otherwise I wish it was only us who knew about airsoft... It's stupid people that kill anything... And money makers.

well see, I played tournament paintball for many years so i know where Eveloompaloompa is coming from. I was once shooting a $1500 Angel LCD, it not fun shooting 30balls per second at people, and all the bad spotsmanship the other teams had. The screaming at each other, and sometimes fist fights. Thats why I like airsoft, that crap doesnt happen. BUt i do agree without sponsors, sports would not be where they are at today.

My backround?

I'm into real guns.  I go to any and all gun shows in the valley that fit into my schedual.  I enjoy heading up to Ben Avery for a morning of target practice.

Since I go to so many shows, I've seen lots of airsoft tables, it had always peeked my interest, but I hadn't actually gone anywhere with it.

I have a friend who bought an airsoft AK (I'm not sure what brand) he decided it would be fun to shoot me point blank.

At the gun show this last weekend, I decided to stop by the airsoft table I saw and look around.  $45 later I left with my cheap mp5 and 4500 rounds of ammo.

I was talking to one of my other friends about it and he mentioned this site.  I figured I'd check it out, cause I always enjoy trying out new hobbies.

Well, there's my life story

Howdy All

Noob here (obviously)  I'm 32 this november, got into airsoft about a month ago on the reccommend of a friend and so far I've fallen in love with the sport=)  I'm in Phoenix metro area and currently attending college on a history/education field.  Well anyhoo, about 7 more of my friends will be getting into the sport over the next 2 months so I am curious....are there any phoenix based teams?  all I have seen here is Tuscon ones=/

although myself and a friend would like to rectify that.  now we're up to three people.
Title:
Post by: studdermonkey on October 01, 2005, 09:23:00 PM
Theres not many teams, man.. you go out, tell your friend(s) or familiar battlebuddy to join the same team, and pwn the other team. That's not too hard.

I admit, if you had a good team, you'd cream alot of people, seeing as how if you practiced together, you'd familiarize yourself with others. but, that hardly happens.
I for one.. am too lazy.

Hi, new guys! Get an AEG and go to games!

But, be on green..

Hey all, I'm new.  I thought I'd post here since this retarded forum won't let me start a thread.

I don't think I will be coming back to this forum.  The fact that I can't post a new thread makes me angry.  This is the first forum I have been to that doesn't allow you to post threads until you somehow "prove yourself" by posting in other people's threads...  And I have been using forums since before some of you knew about the Internet.

I also think it's very lame that the admins think it's funny to make fun of new people with the avatar and such.

So... Here's a big "fuck you" to the people running this forum, I'll be over at Airsoftforum.com if you want to reach me.  It's obvious you don't want any new users messing up your precious forum, so I'll grant your wish and leave.

You are right, your attitude is the kind we don't want and try to keep off this forum, your first post and you are already talkin smack.  [smilie=armata_pdt_34.gif]

Really thought, it's good because most "noobs" to this forum post about 20 times in the first 10 minutes to GET the 10, but that is better than 10 new topics that could have easily been avoided with the "search" button.

You are 26, I doubt you were one of the first to discover the net, you were, wat, 9? ;)

AA is one of the least bullshit forums out there, this shit is legit, it aint like ASR, AA(arnies airsoft) or any other douchecake, halfassed forum where the only people that even post are 12 and have no knowledge of what airsoft really is.

So you're pretty much challenging some stranger to a fight because you didn't like what they posted on a forum... a forum about toy guns?

Imagine that for some reason I accepted your offer to meet somewhere.  Would you physically assault me then and risk going to jail?  Or risk being shot in the event that I carried a concealed weapon?  Think Macfly!

Are all airsoft players this immature?  They are a lot more friendly on airsoftforum.com, that's for sure.   You guys crack me up!  Don't allow new users to post, mock them, threaten to beat them up, etc.  This sounds more like 5th grade to me than a group of adults participating in a sport.

Honestly, you are the immature one, you act 6, not 26. Mock them? Excuse me, have you ever heard the saying, "If you are not going to say something nice, shut the fuck up" ? Now that you have, consider it.

No, I haven't heard that one but it's very deep.  Also very mature.  I'm glad you are using profanity to teach me about maturity.  That is so very appropriate.  Please, tell me some more about how to be mature.  Do I need to threaten to beat someone up?  Is that how?

If you guys get this upset because someone expresses a negative opinion about your forum, I would hate to see your idea of sportsmanship on the field.

Also, for your information, I had a legitimate reason to post a new thread.  I was going to post a review of the Tokyo Marui M93R AEP I bought recently.

The idea that not allowing someone to post a new thread until they have posted 10 times is flawed.  It doesn't prevent newbies from posting threads asking stupid questions, because it doesn't force them to search for answers.  All it does is encourage them to post 10 times as quickly as they can in threads like this, introducing themselves and posting total BS until they get 10 posts, then they will go ahead and post whatever they wanted to post in the first place.

If the concept actually worked or was a good idea, other much larger forums like PBNation would use it.  Lord knows PBNation has a lot of bullshit threads they would like to limit if they could.   If this idea worked they would use it for sure!

Also, tell me the logical reason for forcing people to have an avatar that says "FORUM NEWBIE!" in big red letters.  It's not obvious enough by looking at someone's post count?  Is that too difficult, you need it in big red letters to remind you who to treat with disrespect?

Hey, calm down dude. The newbie rules are there for a reason, and though you may disagree they are not going to change. Why are you in such a rush to get your review up anyway? There are a lot of punks who just enter on this site to get free add space to sell their gun and when they relize that they must have 10 posts to do so they go on a posting/rezurection spree until they get the ten then the mods have to come out and delete it all to keep the forums pleasent for the people that are on here regularly. Now I have not met you and I am not here to chastize anyone, I am just stating in an objective way that this is what the situation is so you can see things from our point of view. When I came on the forumns I posted in the introductions about myself and was welcomed, I then proceded to find topics that I had information on and could add constructively to the thread.  I then proceeded to post and watched the forumns every once in a while it took almost 5months for me to get 100 posts, I now watch it every day and only post when there is something that I can add to. What I am getting at is that these forumn are not about post count, do you think Busta is more repected than warsavage because he has an absurd amount of posts? no. Other forumns do use this system and if you think we are harsh to newbies go check out lightfighter.net and start posting how they suck (there you have to wait 25 posts to not be a newbie and 50 to be in the swap meet area).

It comes right down to if you want to be part of our community you must follow our rules, if you can't then no matter how much you know about airsoft we do not want you here. We feel no loss when a bad poster leaves the forumns (cough*flash*cough). If you want to conitue this conversation or have any other questions please send me a pm.

Oh....I'm not challenging you to a fight. Just offering some help. Yeah, you have a point Hellbore. But if you show up to the challenge then your fair game. Your just asking for troubel. I've had my share of cracked knuckles and broken hands from smashing some teeth in. Your just a waste of time and space. If you need to carry a concealed weapon were ever you go you might want to reconsider your life and how you interact with people. Whats that smell....is that....is that P***y I smell coming from Hellbore? Just like all the typical p***sies. They resort to using a gun.

Piece of advise chump. If you do decide to show up to an event don't say your Hellbore. You maybe ousted before your first shot.

This will be my last post with this chump. I'm wasting my time with him.

Wow, there you go still trying to scare me with your awesome fist-fighting abilities.  I'm sorry, but fighting isn't the most important thing in life for me.  Maybe you have been watching too much "Fight Club".  I'm not going to argue about whether you're a tough guy, you are welcome to keep that title, good for you.  It has no bearing on the points I made about this forum, it doesn't make me wrong and you right, and it doesn't stop me from speaking my opinion.

As for the "pussy" comment, good job insulting all CCW-ers in one fells swoop.  I never realized that exercising my first ammendment rights was a wimpy thing to do.  Damn that wimpy Constitution!  If you ever assault someone and they pull a gun on you, make sure to tell them what a pussy they are before they blow your brains out and send your big tough guy self to the morgue.

I'll admit my first post was uncalled for.  I was having a very bad day.  However, your responses have been pretty ridiculous too.

As for your events, I'm not looking for people to play with, I have a group I play with and I'm not interested in your events.  Just wanted to share some information and talk about Airsoft and found this forum to have some very annoying rules.

As a CCW-er, it sort of negates the point of having a CCW if you're going to declare you have it, for one (unless, of course, to a police officer, to prevent undue hostility).

Your post insulted me more as a CCW-er than War Savage's post did. To even thinly threaten someone that you have a CCW and would use it in the event of a physical assault that you'd be knowingly showing up to, makes the rest of us CCW-ers look like stupid gun nuts.

Quote

Before invoking the Constitution, I would highly suggest READING it. You are referring to your second amendment, the right to bear arms.

Quote

Again with the thin threats. I learned in CCW class (you know, the one they make you take to get a CCW, you DID pay attention right???) that I cannot respond with a concealed weapon unless I believe fully that my life is in danger. If I was stupid enough to show up for a fistfight, I would most definitely NOT be carrying concealed firearms. That's asking for a whole lot of trouble. Remember, just because you might have a CCW does NOT give you any more right to pull it on people than those without a CCW. Doing so would result in felony charges, whether you actually fire the weapon or not. You would most certainly lose your CCW; hell, you'd lose your precious second amendment right altogether.

I can't believe I actually responded to one of your posts, but I felt a need to stick up for all of us CCW-ers being set up for a bad example by you, and hopefully to let others know not to follow your dumbassed example.

Warlock, you didn't read my posts very well.  I never said I was a ccw-er, nor did I make any threats.  The only one threatening anything here is War Savage.  I have no intention of engaging in a fist-fight with some Internet tough guy over such a stupid reason.  My point was how silly it is to go around threatening people on the Internet.  That is really all I was saying even if it sounded like more than that.

Quote from: "War savage"

IF I carry a concealed weapon it's not because I go around starting fights with people, it's because there is so much random crime happening all the time that it pays to be prepared.  If someone assaults me on the street with a knife or gun it's not going to help much if I'm good at breaking teeth with my knuckles.  When it comes to the legal issues, I would have to say "Better judged by twelve than carried by six".

As for the second ammendment, well, I made a typo.  I am well aware of which ammendment grants the right to keep and bear arms.  I'm just having a hard time doing anything right the last few days.

Anyway I give up, you guys win.  It's clear that you guys will hate me forever for making one out of hand post.  Such is the nature of the Internet, it's easy to make snap judgements about people without knowing virtually anything about them.  I'm sorry I was rude and I'll leave now because I can see I'm just making things worse.

You'll learn quickly, if you stick around, grudges only stay in the topic they started in the first place (Except one or two extreme situations [bdoos]). I'm willing to say welcome, as I always was. Welcome Hellbore,  How long have you been airsofting and what kinda weps do you have?

Thanks for the welcome, I see I had you guys all wrong.

Well I actually just started maybe 3 weeks ago with some friends, we play in the woods.  We have mostly springers.  I haven't bought any AEG's because no one else in our group has them yet.  I bought the AEP mostly because I was intrigued by the way it operates.  If the group I play with thinks it's not fair I may not use it with them.  I'm hoping some in our group will get some AEG's because I really want to get one myself.

I come from a paintball background where I was into custom and high end markers.  I did some pretty wild custom markers and was more interested in the tech side than the actual game.  However I've been a little frustrated lately with the high cost of playing and the constant cheating that happens, so I thought I would try airsoft, against the advice of many paintball friends.  Lots of them say airsoft is gay, airsoft is stupid, or airsoft is for wimps, etc. etc. etc.  So far I think it's fun, it has its own charm different from paintball.  I don't see why anyone shouldn't be able to enjoy both.

I have found that in paintball, the best source of information (in fact the ONLY source of non-BS informatoin) is forums.  I'm guessing this might also be true of airsoft, so I've been looking for good airsoft forums.  It's a bit of an adjustment going from paintball, where I'm somewhat of an authority, to airsoft where I'm a total noob.  I'll manage though, contrary to what you saw with my first posts, I actually do know how to eat humble pie lol...

Welcome.  :)

EDIT:
Dangit I hit post too early.

I just got done holding my first op at a paintball field, and much to my surprise there was equal amounts of respect being shown and given by both sides (paintball/airsoft). There were a few paintballers who were interested in participating in airsoft. Like you, I don't see why people can't do both. I used to do both airsoft and paintball, but once the sport turned to a pure battle of balls per second, I decided to get out of the pool for a bit and refocus some.

I know not every paintball game comes down to who splats more quicker, but in general these days that's most of the case. I enjoy airsoft because there isn't a big draw or advantage to lots of pellets except for cover fire. So it has its own way of "keeping things honest" so to speak. I could spit out 30rds/sec and one well-placed sniper shot will bring me down.

If you're nearby, you should come by for one of the games we have at the paintball field (Sudden Impact) to see how two vocally hostile groups can, in fact, coexist at the same time. For me, it was pretty interesting. I was half-expecting the field management to receive complaints about us, but we were fine the whole time we were there.

Warlock, it's good to hear that paintballers and airsofters are co-existing.  I agree that the BPS battle is a turn-off for paintball.  I used to pursue maximum BPS as more of a technical / tinkering challenge, but lately I have been getting more interested in pump paintball markers.  I think sometimes there is more honor and sportsmanship among pump players.  Tournament paintball players can be quite an abrasive group sometimes so I stay away from that side of it.

I'm a little curious why I don't see more co2 powered airsoft guns.  Anyone care to explain a little?  I hear green gas and propane are popular propellants but why is co2 less popular?

Coming from the paintball world, I kind of assumed co2 would be the most common power source but I guess that is not the case.

I love tinkering with paintball guns and I think I will be the same with airsoft guns.  Funny story, my nephew bought a JLS-2012 on Ebay for $1!  I told him it was likely to be junk.  When we got it, it wouldn't fire and there was a sound of gears grinding.  I was able to fix it, they had made a mistake when assembling the gun, but even when working, the pellets barely went 10 feet!  Has anyone seen one of these pistols?  I have searched for information on them and found nothing.  I'm guessing they are so junky that nobody even talks about them.  Anyway, I put a stronger spring in the gun and removed the hop-up device and the gun shoots a LOT farther now, but it's still very weak, I think it would only work for very close-quarters fights.  This experience is what prompted me to play it safe and stick to Tokyo Marui guns until I have enough experience to know which guns are good...

Most co2 cartridges won't fit in the gun mags. So, you need an extended gun mag. Which, those don't fit in many pouches. So, it's not the best of things.

Do you plan on getting an AEG soon? And, if so, what are you looking in to?

Heh.. almost 10 posts!

I see... Does green gas run at lower or higher pressures than CO2? I wonder, couldn't they make mags that have a pressure-bearing chamber that you charge up with co2, like some pellet guns have?  You could use a 20oz co2 tank to charge the mags maybe... I dunno just guessing here.

I do want to get an AEG soon.  I was considering the UTG "Navy Seal" MP5 that I saw on ShortyUSA.  I kind of like the Tokyo Marui Steyr AUG though, I just haven't really decided how much money I want to spend right off the bat...  I mean, I haven't played enough to know if I really like airsoft lol...  What I'm hearing is that Classic Army guns are very nice but possibly not as durable as the Tokyo Marui guns.  Your thoughts on that?

I'm a little wary about the advice I hear on different guns, because in paintball, I got a lot of wrong advice as to "which gun is better" on forums over the years.  In time I came to realize that there were lots of good choices out there, and lots of people were biased towards whatever gun they happened to own.  There is a LOT of hype and lies in paintball, lies about how some guns work, about range and accuracy, etc.  I realized that if you can find a source of legitimate information, it's a rare and valuable resource, because much of the information on the Internet is simply wrong or hype.  Have you guys had to deal with this kind of problem, with airsoft products being hyped up or people spreading false information about performance?

You know, I kind of expected CO2 to be a primary powersource for gas pistols in airsoft, and was also surprised to see propane as the fuel of choice. Like studdermonkey said, though, it comes down to these being replica firearms, and CO2 just won't fit. There are CO2 rifles, but they aren't quite as well accepted as AEGs.

I used to be a Tokyo Marui-only person, but after trying out my Classic Army M15A4 (Thanks, Lightning Man!) I'm thoroughly convinced that CA makes just as good a gun as TM does.

Also, on a side-note about the gas pistols: I bought a pair of KJW M9s, the cheapie blowbacks (they run about $60 each) and those things are as reliable as my timex watch. You pull the trigger, a pellet comes out. I can honestly say for the price I can't beat those guns. They run on propane, of course. I'm looking into getting a CO2 Hi-Capa though, those things are hand cannons.  :D

The gas blowback pistols sound very fun.  The main reason I didn't buy one of those instead of the AEP is because all the people I play with are shooting right around 200 FPS.  I didn't think it would be fair to bring a 300+ fps gun to play with them  :?  The AEP supposedly shoots about 200 FPS so I was hoping that would be an acceptable gun to use against them, as long as I don't use full-auto...

Yeah. I could see how that could seem unfair to your fellow players. Good on you for realizing how unfair an advantage of having the only painful pistol on the field can be.

Imagine the game we had today: pistols-only 12v12. most of the pistols present were 300-350fps, and they sting like no other in CQB. Nothing too dangerous though, just cover up the soft tissues (eyes, nose, mouth) and wear your welts with pride :)

I have only been shot by 200 fps guns so far. How does the sting of the more powerful guns compare to being hit in paintball?

Depends, airsoft can leave some nasty marks, like open wounds, but no bruises or those funny looking welts like paintball. Airsoft is defiantely for the serious person looking for MILSIM, thats what 90% of us here are after, the other 10 could care less.  For me it is definately about the MILSIM, but also the comradery(sp?) and friendship gained from it. I have made a few good friends from playing in this hobby(its a hobby not a sport..any 500lb'r can play airsoft too.) Just realize RIGHT NOW, that airsoft is one expensive hobby, sure you can have fun with some springers and GBB's but once you come to a few "organized" games you will get sucked in and probably be up in the thousands like some of us in no time. ;)

Welcome, where exactly are you located around?

I'm in Mesa, AZ.  East Mesa to be more specific.

Do you guys usually wear full-face protection or just eye protection?  It seems like I have seen both in the pics.  I have seen some wearing paintball masks.  What is the norm?

Whatever you want...Personally I can't wear a paintball mask and wont, it isnt paintball..Just wear ANSI z87.2 or better rating something and you will be ok..I wear Oakley minutes or straightjackets and both seal my eyes pretty well and will protect against any hits. IT's personal preferance though.

Oh, I don't know anything about sunglasses that are rated for that, where would I buy that kind of Oakleys or such type of eyewear?

Tm is a good gun. They are excellent if you plan on leaving them stock. But once you want to upgrade them you will have to add more upgraded internals to handle the upgrade. Also they are not easy to take apart to work on.  Thats where CA and ICS come in.  They are easier to take down, especially ICS, and they all ready come pre-upgraded stock. They have metal bodies, metal internals, and a slightly upgraded spring.  All these things you would have to add to a TM which can cost you some money.   My advice for you is to make it out to a game and check out what airsoft is about. There you can see all sorts of different AEG Makes and models.  You will find that many peoeple like showing off thier gear. If you ask they will probally let you hold thier gun and fire it off in a safe direction.  Aslo the search feature on this site holds alot of wealth. I learned alot from it when I first started.  But do not discount asking good questions though, especially before buying an AEG  ;)

You also asked about mis information.  Well around here many people have alot of knowledge about airsoft in general and in many specific areas.  My experience is that if your not sure about something but want to help, make sure you make it clear that your unsure of your information.  Also there are times when someone makes a mistake or there have been people who just don't know what they are talking about and trust me, someone who knows the truth will make sure the truth is known.  :)  Everyone knows everyone pretty much here, I believe.

HAHAHA!  That's the funniest thing I have seen in a while..

How could someone do that to an XM-8?

Reminds me of this guy who plays paintball in a pink bunny suit .... sometimes i think it's fun when someone does something crazy for laughs...

studdermonkey I too was impressed the argument turned around.  I'm glad I got a second chance with you guys because I live in the area... that would suck to make enemies of all the local airsoft players lol...  It's not just here though, I was pissing everyone off for a few days there.  I don't know if any of you have pets but I always have and I get attached to them... my dog died and it was my fault, and I guess I'm kind of a wimp when it comes to pets because I'm taking it pretty hard... just the way I was raised, we always treated our pets as family, and he was still a puppy and everyone loved him. I was really hating myself and I think when you don't respect yourself you tend to disrespect others. it was kind of sick the way he died and thinking that I killed him... it's pretty rough.

I never had a pet other than a fish, so I cant say that I know exactly how you feel. But I certainly can understand.  A friend of mine had a puppy who loved to chase bugs that skimmed over the water in the wading pool.  One night he found a half empty bucket and he was so curious, he fell into it head first. He couldnt get out and my friend was stricken for days.  Heck just hearing the story makes me feel sick. Time will only heal and I wish the best.

that is not so different than what happened to my dog... I used to use a cardboard "can" type container to carry food out to him.  It had a metal bottom and a metal rim around the top, and paper / cardboard type tube sides.  I think it's a container that powdered dishwasher soap came in or something like that.  Well one morning when I fed him I accidentally left it outside and I guess the smell of food made the puppy stick his head inside.  He couldn't get his head back out (probably because of the metal rim) and he suffocated.  It happened while I was at work so no one was around to hear the commotion.  He was a really cool dog, very smart and expressive, he used to make lots of funny noises like he was trying to talk to you.  It was very sad for the whole family.  My mother loved that dog like you wouldn't believe, just thinking about it makes her break down crying.  She's the one who found him dead, she was coming to bring him this new painted water dish she bought for him.

This is him, he was a little older than this when he died though

Well, fellas, I guess I'm the latest FNG - New to airsoft, but not weaponry.  I'm a veteran, 27 years, so far, between the active Air Force and the reserves.  I work for General Dynamics as a Senior Test Technician working on Blue Force Tracking radios.  Good camouflage collection, plenty of combat gear (real stuff), a few real steel guns, and two brand new airsoft weapons.  Just got rid of a wife, and hoping to pick up a newer model later on next year.  Here's my babies (real McCoys):

Kurn on the boards runs an ESS NVG turbocam with a prescription insert, all of the protection with none of the hastle. Cost him a pretty penny, but is the end all in ballisitc eyewear. check them out on lightfighter.com: http://www.lightfighter.com/istar.asp?a=29 (http://www.lightfighter.com/istar.asp?a=29) or send him a PM and ask where/how he got them. you have some nice toys, is your old school AR a model sp-1? looks a lot like the one I have but I guess all the AR's made around that time look like that. The flash hider sure leaves you with a kick in the chest when you fire it.

My name is David. I was born in Arizona, then moved around a bit while my dad was still in the Army. Finally moved up to a little island in Washington called Orcas. Then I came back down till I ship out for the Airforce in January.
I love airsoft, military hardware, battle strategy, and flying. I have a pilots license, and no drivers license. When you live three blocks from every major point of interest, retail, and transport, there isn't much need for a car.
I   currently own 2 Double Eagle M83 M4s, standard and Navy. A UTG 870 with both full stock and pistol grip. A tinkertoy JLS 1911, and a softair M9.

I'm Matt, live in Ahwatukee, and frequent the Tempe JungleToy often with a couple of friends.  I've been in airsoft since 2003, but am just now starting to get really into it.  Bought my first AEG in late October, it was an SRC SR4, and as a result, it's been sent back to Chino 2 weeks ago.  I'm going to be buying and upgrading a BE XM-8 from LPEG to AEG in the near future.  I think milsim is great, and can't wait to start playing with AA!

Welcome, Matt.

Just forget about the XM-8 idea. It's a bad one. Seems cool, but man, if you are dead set on getting an XM8, just buy a TM G36 and get the GunsWorkshop kit and convert it over. Pricey, but, the only way to do it. BEs are pieces of shit, with piece of shit gearboxes. You could buy a Matrix XM8 and then swap a V3 gearbox with G36 selector plate also.

My advice is to buy a stock Tokyo Marui gun, or a Classic Army one, and then work from there. AFTER you figure out what you like/what works, start doing the cool stuff.
Title:
Post by: Tigerman on December 11, 2005, 10:52:22 PM
Those are options, but what I have in mind is throwing away all the LPEG innards and replacing them with AEG parts.  We're talking TM G36C gearbox, tight bore barrel, M100 spring, and possibly other parts as I get the gun and start to work on it.  The BE XM-8 is the "Matrix" one that you see on evike.  As far as I'm told, "Matrix" is just a name that gets slapped onto certain LPEGS, and is not an actual company.  DDG and mig1 from AS-R have done pretty sweet things to their XM-8s and their posts make me want one really badly.
Title:
Post by: Vince on December 11, 2005, 10:53:17 PM
I'm not sure if the V3 gearbox will drop into a BE XM8. I know it will drop into the Matrix XM8, but not the BE one. The BE's build quality is shit, also.

And if you're going to do that, just get the Guns Workshop kit. It would cost you like $150 more dollars but the body quality is 100% better and you get full trades.
Title:
Post by: Tigerman on December 11, 2005, 11:05:48 PM
The V3 box will fit into the BE if I cut/break a cheap plastic tab.  I'll also have to widen the brass ring on the stock hop-up for the barrel to fit and file down the inner parts of the flash hider, but these are not major modifications.  I'm not buying the GWS kit, because it's way too expensive for me to get that on top of a TM G36C.  I'm out for the night.  Peace.
Title:
Post by: Vince on December 11, 2005, 11:29:31 PM
Well, that's cool, sounds like you have a clear picture of what you wanna do. I just thought you might have like, heard somewhere on some shitty airsoft site that you could do that, and then got it into your head to do it, without thinking about it. Unfortunately this kind of thing happens a lot and when it doesn't work out, it's usually the end of airsoft for that unlucky dude.

Glad to hear you are getting a decent quality AEG and hope to see you and the fruit of your labors on the field soon.
