It shoots more like 250 FPS off the shelf.

Definitely don't buy that.

Nothing. Sniping is the one of the most expensive roles in airsoft and to do it right costs a lot of money.

Thanks for the heads up. In that case how much am I looking to shell out for rifle that can compete? I'm also looking to not use gas rifles because I'm to lazy to get gas everytime I want to play.

New, about $600 for a baseline semi-upgraded VSR-10 or APS2.

Brando is selling a pretty good APS2 right now for $350 dollars I believe. PM him.

I own the Tac nine v-3, its the latest version of the rifle, and i love it!  out of the box it shot about 325 but i have it upgraded now to shoot about 450 with .20's.  the only thing i have with the gun is when im using .20 rounds... even with the hop up the rounds wing left and right... BAD... so i use .25 or .28 if im pllaying with friends and that pretty much eliminates the problem. The only other thing (which isnt a problem its more of a qualm lol) is that all of the inner parts are plastic and a pain in the ass to put back together... but other than that its a good gun for what you pay

Great afforable marksman/sniper rifles that require little or no upgrades to get the job done:

KJW MK1 carbine (400+fps upgradable to 600+) 200'+ range

KJW M700 (300-600fps) 150-250' range

HFC VSR-10 (my personal choice) 330fps stock (few mods @ no cost get it to 360fps) upgrades to 500+fps can get expensive. shoots great @ 400fps w/ 250' accuracy

TM VSR-11 stock 280fps 150' range (upgrades same as HFC but cost a lot more) Most expensive of this catagory

Others that can cost "bu-coo" bucks:

M-14
SL-8 or 9
SVD dragunov
M4 set up SR-15/SR-25
AUG
PSG-1
SG-1
Any AEG ANY!! Might not look good, but if it works it works.

Plus whatever else you come up with.

I would have to disagree on this one.  Sure Sniping "can" be one of the most expensive roles for airsoft...in the spring gun area.  However I have researched many teams and find that most are moving to the gas-powered area.  

I picked up a KJW M700P sniper rifle for 230.00 dollars.  Stock and with the restrictor removed, it fires a 0.36 @512.00FPS.  Not bad for a clone rifle.

I really enjoy the HFC VSR-11. Spent about $250 (including gun) and got it to shoot about ~440fps with .25's. Took it out to a game last Sunday and it really kicked a$$!

Erk, any of you guys on Arniesairsoft yet?  There is a 140 dollar (after shipping) L96 clone that DOES shoot 500 fps stock w/ .2's and is almost a 100% coppy of the Maruzen L96... www.gunnerairsoft.com  i believe caries em.  They come with a free scope.

Gas rifles aren't consistent, and are also variable depending on weather conditions. They shoot hard, sure, but without running a regulator and a constant-air source, you're probably not going to get the required accuracy shot after shot to warrant carrying one on the field over an upgraded AEG. Besides, yours is a little hot for most field use.

Most players tend to forget that the "sniper" role in airsoft isn't about taking the "one shot, one kill" mentality, it's more about recon, surveillance, and proper use as a hidden force-multiplier.

Thats a very good point.  Most who try there hand at sniping need to realize that is it not all about taking that one shot one kill.  Most would say that sniping in Airsoft is a waist of time.  Sniping has many uses in Airsoft if applied properly.  True, you may not always go out and find a shot, your mission would be Recon, etc...  But if you had a clean shot on a hight priorty enemy player...take it!

As for my rifle...it is shootin a little hot.  I'm going to swtich out the ammo and go a little more heavy.  I f that does not do the trick...I may have to put the regulator back in.  I can engage targets at over 130 feet.  I would think that by the time you reach your target...the bb would have slowed down enough to not ruin the target's day!  LOL

I still need to fine tune it.  But I will get there.  As far as consistant wise...there are tricks to solve the problem.  Plus Arizona is a desert and the temps are fairly moderate.  Now playing in Flagstaff would require a a MRE heater on your mag or somthing of that nature.

Sure I could use an AEG.  But when I came into Airosft a wanted to be realistic for the sake of MilSim and to get more into the game like others.  I don't know of any nation or standing army who uses a Semi-Automatic sniper weapon excep the Russian Army with the SVD.

Plus I have always had a soft spot for a bolt-action!

When people take FPS measurements they are not measuring the speed of bb, but the energy behind it.  Using a heavier bb to lower the FPS just to make it "legal" does not make the impact energy any less dangerous.
This is why the AA rules state "400 FPS w/ .20 BBs", and "500 FPS w/ .20BBs".
