Thats actualy not a good way to make a ghillie. It will take you ALOT longer and probably cost a bundle more. Go to http://www.ghilliesuits.com
Buy a kit or some pre died JUTE and make your own. Im sure if Boondock Saint sees this post he'll put his .02 in since he makes his own ghillie's.[;)]

Uhhh  Busta, I have made two ghiliie suits - one was a 'stalker' kit from ghilliesuits.com.  The thing took me about 40+ hours of actual work to finish it.  I will never do that again.  They are great ghillies, but I'd rather pay the extra $100 and have them make it for me.  I just wanted to point out that a "kit" from ghilliesuits.com is not a "quick" job like your post is insinuating.

The fact that it takes time and effort to build a ghille is one of the reasons I like it.  This is especially true if you don't have a lot of cash, but do have the time to do it. You can do a little every day, or even every week.  This helped me from getting frustrated when I didn't have money for new gear. You can build one for just over a hundred bux, less if you use surplus BDU's.

Busta. The military makes there own from scrap for a reason. Its something personal also. You make your own camoflauge, your one with the suit, etc. Buying a kit is really taking the fun out of it.

One thing I like to do is once I am done putting the burlap on the suit is to put it in the washing machine and let it agitate for just about 30 seconds, no more.  It comes out really matted and looks like moss or something.  Oh, I do this at a coin operated laundermat on the other side of town.  My wife would KILL me if I used hers.

This is a great resource on how you can build a ghille suit.  It has a lot of cool ideas and shortcuts.

Cool links fellas.Yes I must agree, theres something personal with makig your own ghillie. But I have a few questions...
1)Is it diffacult, or do people make it seem this way?
2)Should I have two? One for desert, one for woodland
3)Is making sure it is breathable a very important thing? (I'm guessing it is)
4)What type of material shall I use? I've heard of people using burlap, fake moss, ect. ect.
5) It needs to be low cost, as much as I'm satisfied with my income, I still dont make much.

I know you're new here, but don't necropost, i.e post on topics that are old.  Look at the date man, this thread has been untouched for FOUR YEARS!  Cool.

He's adding to it, it wasn't just some mindless bump.

Stay in your lane.

It should not have been a PM, who is he going to PM?

In my book, and I am sure most people's books, well posed questions are an addition to a thread.

If the forum is in need of your moderating skills, you'll be informed.

Good day.

Looks like this guy put in "ghille" in the search box.  This is the correct thing to do when looking for a specific topic.

There are some more recent posts on TAC on this subject.

Strong work Vince.

Which Wal-mart sells DCU's and burlap material?
Burlap can be found in the outdoor area and DCU's(Some generic kind but mine are 100% real from a Captain in the Airforce)
I need some help on how to attach the burlap so it will be effective(sp?) like a row of tan than sage than brown or make a strand of 1 piece of each or what?
