New camera
« on: January 31, 2007, 08:33:10 PM »
These would be pretty cool for first person view or airsofting, target shooting, hunting, etc.  Just wonder what they cost

That would be cool. I hope they don't cost a lot of money...

Are you aware they list prices on the site you linked to?

About $250 for a helmet camera.

No, $250 is not a worry... Although I have no interest in a camera.  I was just curious why you guys were wondering what the prices were when they are listed on the site.

Biggest drawback is that you still have to carry the actual recording hardware on your body somewhere....backpack, fanny pack.  And that stuff is not hardened for the shock of running around, hitting the dirt....dropping.  Also need to carry power for it as well.

Take a look at the one that I used the other day at the game at Avra Valley....footage is online linked at Youtube.  Actual quality is better than what you see on Youtube though because of their crappy compression scheme to minimize bandwidth.

It's also half the price of that one and self contained.  A little bit more cumbersome but oh well.

Yea, but for example i have a RCA Lyra 3030. Ok so it has input on it so you can record video on it and its got a battery life of around 2-3hours. You can swap batteries and u can go longer. Now all you have to do is put it in a hard case.

kinda new to the area but back home in chicago we have a shop called american science and surplus...got myself a color wireless camera there to mount on the side of my p90, its got a listed range of about 300 ft fromthe reciever and will hook up to anything that has video imputs on it. we kinda went high tech since i couldn't count on power at every feild we played and jury rigged it to record to my psp also so if we had issues with places to plug in for power we were good to go. the camera was way way under 250...think it came to like 90 bucks with tax and the total size of it was 1x1x1 so it was perfect and didn't break the bank.

plus American science and surplus does do mail order and has a web addy to nose em out if your interested. and besides this project they've filed alot of silly stuff for shoting that woulda cost more than was ammusing for my tastes so its worth checking em out sometime.

once i finalize my move out here i'll be glad to upload pic's of my camera setup and sample vids if your interested in the picture quality

I bought the ATC-2000.  I've mounted it to my electronic shooting protection, I'll post the video once I've tried them.

Andy.....that's the one that I got a while back.  I was using it at the game up at Avra Valley attached to the foregrip of my M-4.  It works well except for the sound.  Leaves a lot to be desired because it is a sealed water resistent unit when closed.

BTW, I hate Youtube for it's compression schema. :(

yeah, those vids look awesome from the card, but the compression for youtube makes it look and sound like butt

I tried out the camera today mounted to the side of my shooting earmuffs (protection... whatever).  Have to make some adjustments so I can get a better view, but I'll try them at this coming IDPA match.
