What's P. Beretta's deal?
« on: August 08, 2007, 07:10:50 AM »
so we picked up a 96FS Vertec the other day, and we were told earlier this week that Beretta is discontinuing all of their pistol models and concentrating on the Px4, basic 92's, and U22 neos.  We're lucky to have found a new 96 vertec, and to have gotten the 2 cheetas, (85 and 87) before the halt in production.

I kind of understand, the Px4 is their new model to compete with the utility pistols blah blah blah, but to end production of most everything is a little over the top eh? discuss

I think the real problem is they are having trouble competing.  With guns like the Springfield XD's and the Smith & Wesson M&P's coming in at such a low price point, I think (just guessing) that Beretta is having trouble making sales.  IMO, Beretta's are not on par with H&K's or Sig's, but are around the same price.

Just my opinion anyways.

Don't get me wrong, I love beretta, but my hands down favorite is the USP 45.

I guess i was looking for info i didn't already know. The Px4 is their new main project, to compete with sig, hk, glock. and even the 92 got a facelift into the  "90-two"  which has the rail and more futuristic look.

Glocks are the chevy of guns. Sure they're tough, reliable, and cheap... but everyone and their mother owns one.

for lack of a better term... lame.

Exactly, so why get a Beretta?  Most people don't base their gun purchase simply on which gun is less common.  In fact, many want a more common gun because it's a lot easier to find parts and people how know how to work on the gun.

I honestly don't know anybody who currently owns a Beretta.

Me?  I prefer my Five-seveN or a USP Compact.

my experience with beretta's came from the pistols my dad bought, which are the 2 cheetas, the u22 and the 96 vertec.

being 19 i cant legally buy my own pistol yet....no i dont want a used one through private sale. ill wait and buy a new one legally.

i love all our beretta's. They're beautiful looking pistols, they both feel, and function wonderfully, operate smoothly throughout firing, and are all very accurate.

So no, my preference of guns is not simply what's LESS common, but its a factor. for example, Berettas are not exactly "rare" but i see a lot more USP 45's, and smith & wesson 1911's which are both pretty common guns, yet i love them both. In fact, that's my top 3 list right there, all ranked pretty evenly. Beretta, USP, and S&W 1911

XD's and M&P's may have the price points...meaning that they are affordable...Glock's may rule... but there is a metric ass ton of M92's out there. If you can afford it, heck get them all! Train and practice on all of them.

People ask me, LMS, all the time, "what pistol should I get"... I tell them to get the one they are going to be comfortable with, that is robust design with a proven track record of reliability. When ballistics and stopping power enter the conversation, I remind them that if you shoot something in the face, it usually stops doing what it was doing.
