i rarely find tracks i like within this genre, the last good set i heard was one of grime and punishments sets if i remember right.. it was really aggressive and that's probably the only reason i liked it

as far as EDM goes, dnb murders every other genre hand's down. you have multiple ends of the spectrum to choose from... liquid stuff like netsky and logistics to heavier stuff like counterstrike and tech itch.. plus everything in-between

He showed how he dances lol jk. But seriously, who hear even knows much about the EDM scene? It may be fun to mock, but it's not at all about jail bait running around while rolling balls. Ever been to a real rave, with a real headlining DJ? Why make fun of it? I honestly just don't understand the joke.

The EDM scene is full of the stereo-typical children (meaning douche bags who just go to claim the title of raver). Even airsoft has those kind of people who give the game a bad rap. Everywhere you look, there can be an example of someone, or something that just gives the game/scene a bad reputation

http://www.dontstayin.com/usa/az/phoenix/5th-ave-warehouse/2010/sep/17/photo-13204907
Take this picture for example, does it not look like a bunch of people there enjoying the music? Or does it look like people are tripping over themselves while rolling?

http://www.dontstayin.com/usa/az/phoenix/5th-ave-warehouse/2010/sep/17/photo-13202566
This is me shuffling during DJ Ryle's session at Neon 2. Does this look like something a person who's rolling could do? Someone who's dropping acid tabs, or pills of XTC won't manage to stand very well, let alone actually impress people and clear out an area that big having people watch.

http://www.lolgangsta.com/gangstas/Gangsta-Pin-the-Tail-on-the.jpg
Now do this look like it gives black people a bad name? See my relation here? Just because these dudes are "gangsta" does that mean we should stereotype blacks now? Who do you think of when I say ghetto/gangster rap? Snoop Dogg, Dre, maybe Lil John or something along these lines. These are all black guys, thank you stereotypes.

I don't bash people who are into paddle boat racing, even though I think it's stupid, and a waste of time. I don't bash people who are trans-sexual, even though I personally don't feel comfortable around them. I don't judge gays, and make fun of them if they hit on me, even though it's extremely awkward when they do hit on me. I've never been in their shoes, never seen what they've seen. Why should I dog on something that I know nothing about except what someone tells me? Do you believe every infomercial you see? If not, then why do you believe people when they say raves are just full of people who are there for the drugs. I know of more people who rave sober than the entire count of members on this site, and that's all locally. How does that not say something?

I realize I didn't "show you anything", or disprove anything you may have wanted me to disprove. But fact is, how can I prove anything to people who won't get their asses off a computer chair and go to a rave to see for themselves? I've never had a pill pushed my way at a rave, NEVER. Only way I actually was able to get one was when I tracked one down for a buddy who wanted one. I've never had anything slipped in my drinks, even though I gladly pass around my water bottles to people who want a sip, and also leave them on the floor while dancing for extended periods of time. I've never been in a fight at a rave, and never had anyone get all over me while they were rolling. So where is all the harm in raving?

My advice to everyone is to stop mocking the shit they've never done. Once you've experienced something, then feel free to share how you felt about it. I think mockery is really just someone hiding, scared of what could be, and not what is. I understand making jokes, as it's always in good humor. But mockery, and meaning it is just childish.

okay, here i go.

i hate the scene, and i don't get along with 90% of the people in it.. actually, more like 99%. not because of stereo types, or whatever. i just don't get along with people in general, ravers included. i'm the same way with the hardcore scene. hell, why do you think i play airsoft? to shoot people..  :)

that's the reason i don't really go to raves. i think they're..i was going to say gay, but i'll settle for lame. the last one i went to was out in the desert. the only reason i could stand it was because of the fact that it was in the desert, not some cram-packed venue charging $30 pre. i could just kick back by one of the fires and enjoy the sets.

so...yeah. and i've been into the music itself (mostly DNB) for at least ten years now, more actively for the second half of that ten. i love dnb! it's rare that i can find someone who would be familiar with at least 1/4 of the DJ's im partial to, and impossible to find someone like that within the so called "scene"

i would much rather see a favorite act somewhere more intimate like the cherry.. i'm not a huge fan of the twelve year olds in lingerie, or the spotters, or the kandi kids, or any of it at all.. it's just not something i take part in, regardless of how much i love the music.

i'll stop there before i overly offend anyone

nyone, if you want to talk music.. PM me

I personally listen to Drum and Bass... Old school techno (stuff from the mid to late eighties up to the early 90s, older than alot of kids here, like moby, when he ate e) And some trance stuff.... The weirder the better. I personally like prodigy, pendulum, and chemical brothers more so than anything brand new to the streets these days... Id rather spend my time listening to MSI, Pink Floyd, Zepplin, The Doors, The Greatful Dead, or the Stones in the end anyways...

That being said... i cant agree more with the negative comments about raves and the whole electronic music scene... Ecstasy makes people dumb, puts them in a fantasy world (not just while their "rolling") and makes them immature and selfish, while thinking its all OK because they are expressing themselves and who they want to be... If this were true, everyone wouldn't be whinny drama filled little self important idiots that don't care about anything but their high like the person next to them... I refuse to go to a rave or club, ill punch some one. I dont want to spend $40 to try and see one good artist at a rave just to be surrounded by people saying "omg im rollin soooo hard... who is this DJ anyways" You should go for the music, not the drugs...

Daniel Tosh once said "Come on why don't you wanna get high, oh... I don't know, cause I'm not in 7th grade anymore and Ive got shit to do. Why don't you grow up and do coke like an adult." This should be applied to little teens and immature young adults doing ecstasy too... grow up, just don't do coke. You aren't going to get a job in bright colors, your new wave hair cut, and candy bracelets from your wrists to elbows... you cant do that crap and expect to be part of the rest of the world. You wanna work at subway or mcdonalds the rest of your life, go for it... Chase that dragon...

Id like to state that all my comments come from going to raves and knowing the people... Btw, if you have been to a real rave lately, youd notice that ALL the people there want to do is make it about the jail bait running around while rolling balls... Illustrated above by my many situations of being at a rave where no one even knows anyone whos playing. Anymore the smaller setting is more of a tribute to the music... Real raves haven't been happening since the rave scene began in the 80s... in the UK... People who enjoy raves for the music and the experience are WAY to few and far between... The 95% of the people who ruin the scene are what make it a joke... And thats what makes trying to fight for it just as much of an equal joke. No offense to you, as i understand your not the normal part of the crowd... People have taken something that may have been great before your time, made it bigger, changed it, and ruined it...

Another great example of that is the recent attempts at woodstock. The original woodstock was about peace and love. The most recent one was plagued by fights and vandalism, with MTV officials and artists leaving the muddy expo like the last of the U.S. forces leaving the embassy in Siagon, almost EXACTLY the same....

This makes plenty of sense, and I clearly see your point. Real raves may not be a part of the EDM scene anymore. However, realize that the people hosting the newer venues (IE: Neon 2, Lalaland, TBE, and EDC) are all for the original scene. The raves going on these days may not fall under the same category, but the people throwing them are trying to achieve this. I know many people in the scene, personally, who throw these events... and they don't want it to be about the rolling teens/jail bait. They throw these events for the sake of the music, hence why Basshunter, Desginer Drugs, Brennan Heart, Darude, DJ Zany, Donkey Rollerz, and DV8 are all here this year. Designer Drugs spun an awesome show at Neon 2, and Michael knows how to work the crowd (I saw it from two feet away while taking pictures lol).

Even though the said 95% make up the scene, that's all about perception IMHO. When I went to Neon (just using this as a current example), you wouldn't believe how many people I saw that were asking who the DJ was? I saw 0... let me make that a little bigger 0. That means 0 people were there completely for drugs and to be in a false reality. Yes, I saw the jail bait prancing around in their underwear, and the rolling high school kids. Who doesn't? The main place I saw them was outside or sitting in front of the speakers... not on the dance floor. Odd don't you think? Considering that Comrade mentioned them on the dance floor. Maybe it was just my ignorance? But the point I'm trying to make is this: It's all about how you perceive the event. If you attend a rave and expect to be surrounded by rolling jail bait, and expect all the negative from it, then that is what you will get from the experience. Remember a small philosophical quote about life? "You get out what you put in". Same applies. You expect a certain experience, you get a certain experience. I went expecting a good time, dancing the night away, meeting some good people, bumming cigarettes to fellow ravers, taking awesome pictures of Designer Drugs and Ryle, and overall having an awesome night. I was not the slightest bit disappointed. Plus, drugs are a part of every concert I've been to (minus the Christian music concerts of course). Rob Zombie, Tool, Neon Trees, Linkin Park (believe it or not), Lostprophets, Pennywise, and many more concerts I can't name off the top of my head, all have severe pot use (or so I've been told by friends who went and came home reeking of weed). How can you enjoy a concert with people stoned out of their minds, but just because people are rolling at a rave you can't enjoy that? Perception of the event maybe? I'm puzzled at this prospect. I'd rather be surrounded by people sitting on their ass getting a light show while rolling, than someone hitting a pipe next to me at a concert, but that's my mindset.

I'm not trying to argue this point with you, as I can say that a majority of the EDM scene "ravers" in the US has turned to drug users. However, I believe that since the negative perception of a rave has been so ingrained in many people's heads, they can't enjoy a rave if they tried. I know this is coming from a raver, one who goes clean, stays clean the whole night, goes for the music, and has learned to enjoy the music without letting the people around him destroy his night. Everyone has their own opinion, and I apologize for stepping on anyone's toes in saying mine (and somewhat forcing it to you, I will agree). I just feel that people shouldn't like the scene because they don't like the music, or prefer other types of events like rock concerts, etc.. People shouldn't like a scene because people will do drugs at said event and question who a DJ is. The drug part just seems redundant to me, and also somewhat hypocritical considering what I said about other concerts and their associated drug use.

Totally going to necro this, but I went to showtek with my old suitemates and peoples there were doing the shuffle shit(or trying it was crowded) and it just looks gay, also everyone kept asking me what my "name" was and I just told them my name was, I then found out you have a "rave name" and every one I hears sounded gayer than a phanne pack full of dicks.
