Echo 1 calls out players who remove orange tips.....
« on: April 21, 2013, 02:59:00 PM »
I'm sure some of you have seen this.... From Echo 1's Facebook page, all posted in the past few days:

"Why is the safety and required orange tip the most hated thing in Airsoft?"

"Why do some of you remove your orange tips from your Airsoft guns? That can be dangerous to you and the sport we all love."

"We hear this all the time. 'The Orange tip gives away my position' Think of it as a player name on a video. Why do you want to hide? How can a little safety precaution give away your position but a red or blue arm band does not?"

Meanwhile half of the pictures they post are of players with black-tipped guns....
Is being located in Kommiefornia rubbing off on them?

I saw a lot of their posts about the "importance of the orange tip." It made no sense to me so I just shrugged it off. It was kind of funny to see other airsofters on FB calling them out on their hypocrisy though.

I was just talking to Brian about this. Basically they're trying to promote the orange tip because stupid kids are taking off the orange tip and doing stupid shit in public view.

Echo 1 is taking a point thought. I was out playing with a small group out in the bush someplace safe and no one had orange tips. It was all fun and games till someone saw us and that we where soon held at gun point by the police. Having the orange tips would have helped them identify they where toys and not have to handcuff everyone and treat us as real criminals till they really inspected the guns. It could have been worse. I say rule of thumb is if u are at a huge known place (fear farm, sasco, vanguard, ext.) Than OK with no orange tip otherwise keep one on it.

Never played "in the bush" and never been hassled for airsoft guns. Generally try to stay away from bush games. Organized tend to be better.

Back to FT's orginal point, this is corporate trying to say "We support the 'sport'" and impressing to people how much they care about safety. You know who else cares about safety? Suzy Soccr Mom, when lil Timmy asks for an airsoft gun for Christmas. When she does her online research (read: googles airsoft) and comes across those Facebook posts, guess who she thinks is all about the safety.

This is PR101. Get in front of a problem before it becomes a problem, so when lil Johnny gets shot by a cop that sees GUN and lil Johnny has his orange tip painted or a Gemtech suppressor on it, it's more likely that a law saying that you must keep the orange tip will come down, rather than one that puts restricts on airsoft guns in general.

Echo1 probably doesn't care if you paint the tip. Pretty sure it's good for them, since it voids whatever warranty there is on the gun.better for them.

TL;DR: Echo1 don't care. Echo1 don't give a fuck.

I'd shoot someone who brandished a gun in my direction in public, orange/pink/blue tip or not... there are a lot of people who use fake looking real steel guns.

What about guitars?

God help us all if they start putting guns in canes, umbrellas, briefcases, or other common everyday objects...

Law enforcement could care less about the orange tip because I can just as easily duracoat or Cerakote a muzzle device on a real gun orange . Back when LA was having the debate of weather to require airsoft guns to be funny colors a guy took a airsoft cz and a real cz. He painted the real cz all the colors of the rainbow then asked the house whats the real one. They went straight for the airsoft one because of the color. that said Law enforcement is trained for this reason to treat even airsoft guns or ones that look like airsoft guns (ie orange tip) as real guns.

Unless federal regulations require all non lethal air guns to be made of transparent plastics. There is something of the sort made mention of in the Arizona state laws about air guns. Still I get the point. So long as it is a projectile, it's best to use common sense and avoid playing the sport in broad daylight. If it can shoot anything then it could shoot anyone. The lethal/non lethal aspect will be ignored in the eyes of law enforcement to avoid the chance of it being made capable to kill or maim.

So think it through. If some random person walked up and pointed an air soft gun at you, and assume you've never heard of air soft or toy guns, how would you react?

Exactly, well said.  Be smart and we will enjoy this sport/hobby in the future, if not be prepared to loose it.

Me and my friends have had cops called on us twice while airsofting. Neither of those times did any of us get shot or cuffed. One cop understood what they were immediately and said he even used to airsoft. The other cop stayed and refereed a game out of curiosity. You sound like you don't trust ANY police...

This post makes me angry.

Because you got the cops called on you, you obviously weren't playing somewhere appropriate and are risking your life.

My father is a detective for MCSO, and before that we was a patrolman for over a decade. He took one of my M4's into work with him one day, and everybody there looked at it, held it, shot it and messed around with it. Every one of them said if they pulled up on somebody holding this they would shoot them. Evil, you may have gotten lucky, but it's still not something you want to fuck around with. When I was a freshman in highschool, I almost got shot because of airsoft. This isn't a joke, or a matter of trusting the police. The police don't trust you. They never know who you are, why you have a gun, what your intentions are. So until they disarm you, and talk to you, they're going to have their guard up.
