i sport one and there are a few other guys that do. it's nice to have on if running through brush and one time I did have a bad fall at Mount Ord where it prolly kept me from injury (I saved the gun!!), but this is a rare occurance you really dont need one for any thing like this. it's mostly on if you like how it looks, there would be other covers out there with less function (like a coon skin hat) but to each his own.
