Need help identifying bayonet
« on: January 03, 2006, 09:08:05 PM »
My friend who collected a lot of WWII stuff gave this to me.  He didn't know what it was, and neither do I.

Stamped on the right side is AS. F. with FS on the wood part.

Stamped on the left side is 128398

I believe that is a K98 Bayonet...it jsut depends on the stud lock. If I knew what it looked like, could tell you.

I thought it was for a K98 too, but when you attach it to the lug, the barrel ring gets in the way...  I've looked all over the internet, and all the K98 bayonets don't have that ring...

Well, that scabbard is german looking, but are you trying put it on a real K98?or your airsoft K98? It might fit differently. I'm not sure, it would be easier to determine in person.

These bayonets are often found with the initials AS.FA stamped in the hilt; this is the abbreviation for - and roughly translates to - the Turkish Military Arms Factory.

Looks like you might have found a match

I matched it up online with a bunch of K98 bayonets... none match exactly.  The Tanaka k98 is an exact replica of the real steel.  My search continues.

that bayonet i showed you is for a Turkish variant of the K98. often times when other countries contract a design, they make modifications to suit thier individual needs... examples are the Czech SA Vz.58 (Kalashnikov AK-47) the Swedish Bofors AK5 (Belgian FN FNC) and the Chilean FAMAE S.A.F. (9mm Swiss Sig 550). That bayonet may only work for that turkish rifle. I'd contact the webmaster of that website and ask him, or someone else. usually you would go by markings for ID... that is why they are put there.

Thanks, for some reason when I posted last night, only Ian's response showed up.  Looks like it's a match.  Thanks, I appreciate it!

Found another picture of the same thing online:

Perfect match.

Now to find out what it's worth :D
