I just picked up a 551 replica from Gearbox (thanks Ron) for $100 a few weeks ago. It works wonders.

Aw man those are nice! Great choice! I'm going to have to swing by gearbox when I go down to Phoenix and see what all the excitement is about lol.

I'm just gonna say its all personal prefrence. Red/green dot, scope, illuminated scope or iorn sights. I've used them all and they all have their uses. In a darker area a red/green dot is great but so are your iron sights depending on conditions. Scopes are more for spotting in airsoft unless you have the gun that can reach out and touch someone, an illuninated one helps in the darker areas like I stated before. And some use any of the above just for looks because they don't need them, dont use them or dont know how to zero them. Personally a 2x or a magnifyer with a red dot is optimal but again depends on my mission.

True very true, you defiantly need a gun that will reach out and hit someone to be able to have and use a scope effectively.

the only issue i've found with red dots is that on mine, it is useless during a bright day, even my green dot. my red/green dot does wonders for me during twilight and nighttime shots, no need to worry about lining up my sights, point and shoot.

If your sight is not visible on the brightest of days, get a better one.

I've never been impressed by airsoft aimpoint knock-offs.

I have a fake ACOG with a MRD piggybacked on top on my CA M15A4 CQB.  I'm not sure what brand it is, but it's as bright as my real MRD, and hasn't died yet.

A 4x ACOG with top-mounted MRD is the most useful optic setup I've yet used for airsoft.

Is that the gun that is shown in your user photo srg? Thats a nice ACOG. I think that would be cool with one of the stubby killer cqb guns.

That is my first M15A4 CQB, and it has a fake aimpoint.  I run the same type of gun now, just with different optics.

Even the "best" of the fake aimpoints suffer from piss poor battery life, in addition to the host of other inadequacies.

I have an EOtech 553 on my real 10.5in barreled AR, and the only reason I don't use that on my Classic Army gun is the rails are so out-of-spec that it won't mount to my upper.

The best choice is to use real optics on your AEG, if you can swing it.

Luckily I have a few real optics that I can use haha, although my dad probably won't allow me to use my  trijicon for my spr hahaha! Although I’m sure he won’t mind me using my old Leupold. :P

I would trust ANY quality optics to withstand the piddly rigors of airsoft simulated combat.

After all, what kind of self-respecting brand would not warranty their product knowing that it was broken by a teenager with a BB gun?

"Dear Trijicon, I thought your products were tough, until I broke an ACOG playing AIRSOFT!"

"Dear Johnnie, there is a package en route to your residence.  Do not be alarmed by the size of the box, or the quantity of optics therein.  Pass them out to your friends, and see if they can break them, too."

So, if you can break it on a BB gun, it doesn't belong on your firearm. 8)

No kidding hahaha, I doubt that anyone could break a Trijicon though I love mine. I just wish I could get drawn for elk so I could actually use it besides at the range haha ](*,)

Out of all the optics I have tried with airsoft, I would have to Agree with AZSarge in that the ACOG works out the best. There is enough power to give you some distance to see, but not enough to take away your situational awareness. Since you are really just using it to see where the bb's are arcing to , you can just co witness with both eyes open.

I agree thats the only reason I don't like my sniper, I can't keep my awarness up as well as I could with an ACOG.
